Sorry to intrude, but what’s happened with Steele? He looked completely out of the game today and I’m surprised. I love your team and potential but was really shocked how non influential Steele was.

One week I think we’re on our way to a genuine top 8 team.

The next I wonder if I have rose coloured glasses on because half our team is mud.

Which one honestly is it?
The $64 million question.

Both fair calls, I was on the other side of the stadium from where it was so assumed they were there, just found it comical to see that bald noggin standing the mark time and time again. Definitely not blaming Jones for today, today was a team effort of being rubbish.

Tonight was one of those comical nights, was so frustrating you just had to laugh.

Our defenders and wingers just ran themselves into trouble time and time again. We were playing to our game plan but we were just out run and Dogs spread so well. We didnt work hard enough and our defenders lacked running support, both on the overlap and up the field, clearly exhausted from the week before. How we finished the match with a kicking efficiency of 70.8% is beyond me, felt like it should've been below 50%.

I think Bevo had done his homework on us and smashed us in that department.

I really hope we see Tobie, Hastie, Boxshall and probably Heath come in and play full games next week. Dont need to say much about the players who had shockers, we all know who they were.

3-3 is where I hoped we'd be after 6 rounds (with our injuries). The 3 losses have really hit us all over the park, hopefully we can play more than 8 good minutes of footy next week.
Sadly we actually covered more ground that the Dogs with more sprints and repeat sprints and still got spanked

horrible to watch, but we were clearly suffering from last weeks game in the heat, GWS looked off the boil too. Regardless it's more evidence that we need to cycle out steele who is a glorified tagger that doesn't tag. We need to give Box, Trav, Windy (as a pure mid), Owens (lol), we need to develop more mids, which is done by playing them. Steele is a clogger and has been for a few years, time to take off the rose coloured glasses

Hurt his knee at training a few weeks ago and was a late out against the Tigers and missed the following week against Port.

I’m hoping like hell it’s a lingering problem from the knee or Steele is a major problem.

Permanently chasing the ball ineffectively will do that.

I don’t know what the answer is, I’m trying to blame it on us having too many softish athletic players who don’t wanna put their body on the line and get crunched (think Hill, Wilson, Henry, Collard, NWM), but then I think of all the players we do have that don’t mind getting crunched like Steele, Jones, Byrnes, Stocker and realise that it doesn’t make a difference because they all got shown up. What’s the answer ? I’m stumped. We got flogged.
We need players who are tough but also very skillful and smart. Unfortunately they don’t grow on trees.

Tough loss but improvement is not linear, just need to make sure we learn from games like this.

On the positive we will probably see Boxshall debut after a great game in the VFL, and Travaglia should also be recalled next week!

Steele still has something to give but I would like the captaincy to be passed to Wilkie on a permanent basis. Let Steele worry about his own game and get back into form. I have always felt the captaincy has been a burden for Jack.

The bottom line for st Kilda is really fairly simple despite making some very good drafts choices in recent times we need mids. We won an irrelevant game that took us out of the the quality mid range yet again and we’ll continue to tread water until that need is addressed.

Can’t win in the nfl without at the very least a good QB and you can’t win in the afl without a good midfield. Supporters have been screaming it for years yet here we are, the club must act. If Rowell isn’t been offered a TDK like deal then the board should be asking why not ?. Worpel wouldn’t be the worst pick up but we need more than just one player.

Also we can’t wait for ming forever, he needs some support so this next draft must include a key forward.
If it makes you feel any better, Travaglia looked pure class today in the reserves. He will end up an extremely good player and looks at home in the midfield to me.

I also thought Caminiti played pretty well, he wasn't perfect but they got absolutely no rest in defence with the midfield getting thumped every centre bounce. He made some mistakes but I think he is a pretty exciting developing defender. Especially when you consider he has been thrown in there after playing as a forward until now.

Bloke is only 21.

Thankful the Easter festivities held me up and I was reduced to the couch and Kayo for this one.
Too bad to be true. Some of the Dogs goals were hilariously fortunate. Clearly belted us where it mattered but absolutely nothing fell our way.
It’s that age old gap between our best and worst rearing it’s ugly ahead again, but at least it’s during a stage of our overall development that it can be somewhat understood.
I would hope there’ll be changes next week, but it may not matter much against the wounded Lions. Yuck!!

Completely uncompetitive after the first 10 mins, seen 70 point smashings before but that felt like a 20 goal loss. We had no ability to transition the ball, our run was gone and we were so fumbly and missing easy targets which are inportant factors in our game when we are playing well.

Some of the most embarrassing individual performances today from so many players which in a positive light I don’t think we can play much worse than that and I don’t think we are that bad at all. Absolute stinker though.

Hill adds nothing and almost never seen such a bad performance. Henry shouldn’t have played literally had one decent vfl game and got in on reputation. Wilson doesn’t go hard enough for the ball and he wasn’t like this last year at all, noticed several times over every game this year him shirking contests and also always soccer into the ball instead of picking it up. Needs to get it out of his game because he is very talented. Steele shit as already said, I don’t even know what his strengths are anymore as a player. Exact same with Marshall so far this season.
Caminiti will be a great key back just let him develop.
Wilkie nas good
Sinclair has the ability to go missing
Owen’s and Higgins very good
Garcia ok
One of woods worst games for the club

But I’m gonna give the team leeway on this game. One more of them and I will get worried but I think that was a one off stinker and we aren’t that bad.

I watched quite a bit of it, I rated him before the draft and I’m glad we drafted him.

Some mixed reports on Arie tonight. I thought he was okay (relatively speaking) and that you can see the vision for him to fit in with NAS, Sinclair and (perhaps) Hill as surgical users off half back. Obviously not a great day for anybody but he did gain over 500m and kick at an efficiency rating of 79%, so not all bad.

Work in progress though.

Saw it coming a mile off, that game last week cooked us.

Dogs played us to a tee so fair shakes to Bevo. They marked us 1 on 1 and put up a tight zone around the ball to stifle our movement.
Our mids got sucked into the contest all night while the dogs kept their shape and waltzed it into space.
Same shit happened last year when we faced them off 3 games in 12 days or whatever it was.

Next week won't be pretty either.
Our mids provided no contest for most of the night, following someone else’s backside allowing them first use is just crazy. What really got on my nerves is I was a big wrap for Freijah before his draft as a great pick in that range and we looked elsewhere.

Anyway it was a shocker so we move on and try to make it a game next week. Hands up who had us winning more than 3 games in the first 8 ?.
