DANDENONG STINGRAYS:

#6
Charlie Orchard
Tall Defender | 190cm | 17/06/2006

Stats:
14 disposals, 3 marks, 4 rebound 50s

Round 11: A difficult player to beat at his best, Orchard and his fellow Dandenong defenders had plenty of repelling to do. The over-ager utilised his aerial range to impact contests before following up at ground level to recover the ball and rebound. He distributed well off the last line and provided repeat running efforts to advance the play further afield. Orchard also slotted a late consolation goal on the fly after being paid advantage from a free kick.

Note: He has been used forward lately and kicked 3 snags last weekend.
Seems like he is a defender in the coates league but played forward for Sandy Zebs
Didn't realise he was that tall.

tried to post this earlier but wowza, apparently only 192 but looks taller than that to me. I know grabbing a flanders type is probably the smartest decision but I really enjoy the journey that comes with drafting players and watching them develop, if it's flanders v a robey or jevan I'm choosing the latter everyday of the week

been looking forward to these highlights. great size, super clean and balanced, very impressive stat line. stoppage craft needs work but understandable for someone who hasn't played much as a mid. can just see ball get ball at this level. so much to work with, reminds me a bit of Freijah, though I doubt clubs will let him slip anywhere near as far

Good size
That kinda worries me about him.
Man amongst boys
Didn't look very clean to me.
Seems to have a big tank, gets around the ground
Thanks for the vid.

Tend to agree. He looks super super raw to me. No doubt there's a lot of talent in him and lots to work with.

Looks pretty clean below the knees, good strong hands. Kicking and game sense needs work imo.

Would be excited if we got him but going off this very small sample set of a game he dominated, I wouldn't have him picked in the top 40.

He is a big solid unit but would have to agree that his decision making & field kicking needs a ton of work .... that said Dangerfield's kicking is substandard for the most part but it hasnt stopped him from carving out a stellar career
Even Dangerfield grew into his body
This guy seems to have peaked already
Most often not a good sign

Pair him up with Box as the Bash Bros

Geez guys kicking leaves a bit to be desired.

Good hands though and love his pace for a bigger body.

Depends on wether we want finals next year or in 5 years. Flanders is immediate impact. Robey could be anything or nothing and will likely not peak for 5 to 6 years.

Got a bit of man against boys build. They can go either way. Looks promising though.

The vision is one game against a weaker Western Jets side, so if we were to recruit him you would hope the club have seen some of his earlier senior games in the Eastern League.

I think he has plenty of room for development, he has speed, power, reads the ball well off ruckman and is an excellent over head mark. He looks a bit like an under developed version of Harvey Langford and has a heap of room for improvement.

If you had to do a re-draft of the 2021 Draft, where would you think NWM, Owens and Windhager be selected ?
I'd say NWM is in the top 3, but what about the other two ?

Feel like Mitch wouldve been a bit higher after 2023, but I think somewhere between 15 and 20?
Windy probably same at the start of this year, but id take him between 10 and 20 also, that draft is ****ing stacked

Didn't see any speed in that vid.
And he wasn't clean with his kicking.

you guys need to learn how to procrastinate

while he may not be the best at any one thing (possibly running the lines), he does a lot of things very well. Can win a hard ball and break lines, plays physically, good agility. Will be gone before our pick but I think people are underrating this draft a touch, no standout generational player but lots to work with

Did the trial BF phantom draft for the saints. This is who I ended up picking for you. Keen to hear feedback.

Pick 9 - St.Kilda - Josh Lindsay - 183cm Defender.

Saints go best available here and get some real class behind the ball, which will work out well with NAS moving into the midfield permanently. Lindsay is a prototype half back who has high footy IQ, excellent decision making, composure and the skill level to cut teams apart. I really wanted Cumming at this pick as I think his versatility would suit your list build perfectly, but he was taken the pick before.

Pick 47 - St.Kilda - Cody Curtin - 200cm Key Forward/Key Defender/Ruck

Saints need some KP depth, and with this selection they get the potential versatility that Curtin brings to the table. With his hulking frame and competitiveness Curtin loves to throw his body into the aerial contests and is a genuine contested marking threat, often taking the ball at the highest point. He needs to make some improvements on his tank and overall athleticism, but after pick 30 he is worth a shot.

Pick 50 (Matched Bid) - St.Kilda - Kye Fincher - 184cm Midfielder

A footballer's footballer...tough, dour and more than willing to put his body on the line. Fincher's season has gone from strength to strength, stepping up to whatever level he is playing at whether it's the Coates League, Champs or VFL, his competitive nature has held him in good stead. As a midfielder he is clean, on touch and uses the ball with reliably, these traits are also evident when he has spent time across half back as well. Fincher also has good balance between his offensive and defensive game, he is one of the more accountable midfielders in this draft and you'll always see him pushing hard to put pressure on the opposition with his defensive running. His footy IQ and competitiveness will hold him in good stead at AFL level, and he might surprise a few with how early he might get an AFL opportunity.
