Just so we're accurate here. Adelaide's D50 relevant scoring stats:

Def Half Score Origin - 4th
Def Half to Score - 11th
D50 to F50 - 13th
D50 to score - 11th

In terms of vs Oppo
Def Half Score Origin - 1st

Now if we're talking about them potentially looking at Clarry...

For vs oppo scores from centre bounce they are 6th - Above them is all of Hawks, Cats, Suns, Pies.

I get it's all different plans, but for me, I would go Oliver out because Trac can play 80% forward, and I trust Viney more in terms of consistency and leadership. There's 0 chance they trade Viney IMO.
I'm with you. Whether people like it or not Viney isn't going anywhere and to be honest I think we need him to keep setting standards for the young guys. We can't turf out all our leaders.
Oliver just has to go, his one dimensioness is killing our flexibility in the midfield.

If it's Viney with a mix of Rivers, Kozzy, Windhager, Windsor, Langford and the like I think that's a good mix, and then the timing of Viney likely finishing up hopefully coincides with Langford, Windsor and maybe Lindsay stepping up to full time mid.

Probably just their first pick (from Carlton), which we could maybe be creative with rather than use in the draft, ie - Trade for another player, split it and then 1 trade, 1 pick etc.

Split pick 8 one off to the saints and take one to the draft if there’s a player available that seems a good fit?

I can only see Gold Coast with pick 14+15, eagles 12+19 and North with 20+21 that are close together.

Something like that - Or even offer it back to the Hawks for Mitch Lewis and a future first. Dunno, just something creative given the quality of this year's draft.

Hopefully Lewis stays out of the Hawks line up and he starts thinking about his future elsewhere. Just worry about given to much as he can be very injury prone.

What do you think of Derksen? Is it even worth it…

I'm happy to get Derksen as he'll be cheap and gives us another key back for depth. With May cooked, rumours about Lever (doubt he goes though), Adams unconvincing, Fullarton has been playing back and he'll be gone, it makes sense. Not sexy, but makes sense.

I’m hoping someone comes for May, if someone pays overs for Lever we 100% take it.

Petty to go back to defence. I still have hope for Howes and Adams

Personally get the feeling we'd definitely take calls on May, Lever I think might be a bit of a beat up. Petty probs stays forward for now (unfortunately) unless Jeffo/Kentfield demand a spot next year and Adams doesn't come on.

OK, now that the real stuff is over (Casey eliminated) we can truly assess what will happen with the list.

With this being a really weak draft, the club's first round pick being with Essendon, plus Kynan White and likely Toby Sinnema coming in I can't see there being too much paring back of the list.

Culley and Henderson came on as LTI replacements for McAdam and Moniz Wakefield so there are actually two more players on the list than the true maximum.

Obvious outs for mine having watched far too much Casey football:

Henderson - in hindsight a real head scratcher of an acquisition, especially in preference to Culley who does have a couple of AFL level weapons. He wasn't even played in prominent roles in his VFL games and seemed forever injured towards the back end of the year.

Brown - he tries hard but he's undersized and has no AFL weapons. Maybe he could get somewhere as a forward, but not at Melbourne.

Woewodin - just really vanilla. But not even the classy vanilla, the supermarket brand vanilla.

Campbell - on the assumption that Heath is secured I think Campbell would take away development opportunities for both Heath and White. If there is a spate of injuries the mid-season draft would be the spot to grab another ruck, possibly even Campbell again.

Verrall - he hardly got any time in the ruck or as a resting forward towards the back end of the year. Unless he was managing some sort of injury that's a sign that he's out the door one way or another. Straight delist, or potentially another club has committed to him so Melbourne saw no point in giving him more development time.

Hore - he's retired so that's an easy one.

Billings - if he had any future with Melbourne he would've got games in the second half as his VFL form was outstanding.

Fullarton - was worth a shot, but just Schache mark 2.0 in the end.

Spargo - I think he has likely lost his number one supporter in Goodwin and may as well exercise his free agency if there's another club interested.

That's nine gone pretty easily, or really seven given the LTI position with McAdam and Moniz-Wakefield needing to come back onto the list.

Seven open list positions is heaps in a weak draft year with no good picks.

I can see arguments for trying to move on May, Petracca, Oliver, Laurie, Sestan and some others. But you're getting so deep into the pool of players who aren't on AFL lists already with seven vacancies it will definitely dilute the list strength.

To me there would need to be offers too good to refuse to move on those guys.

Especially when you know Melksham and McDonald would be almost certainties to go at the end of 2026, along with McAdam and another couple (Sharp, Sparrow?).
Agree. But I’d keep Verrall. Realistically he seems to have been developing with limited opportunities. Plus assuming we get Heath I think you need more than 2 rucks as Campbell surely goes.

I’d like to give Brown another year to develop but can see him being delisted also.

Verrall is crap.

He was pretty much benched for majority of the second half last night because he was getting smashed in the ruck by a suburban level ruckman.

They ended up having to throw Aidan Johnson in the ruck to help Campbell out.

The fact that this has occured to a guy thats now been on a AFL list for 3 years speaks volume on Verralls ability.

Max Heath and Kalani White coming in next year means a likely delisting.

The lack of meaty rumours around players leaving is concerning. I know we don’t have a coach yet, but that doesn’t stop players who want out flagging it like Curnow.

Surely some of our spuds want out.
Meaty and Juicy rumours coming soon.

Would be a good get, but I'd need to see the contract/trade before getting too hyped. They'll want a lot for him, and realistically, he's only played a handful of games where he's looked like a true top-liner.

Has the potential to fit our midfield perfectly, however.
Agree 💯. Maybe I haven't watched enough of the Saints but over 1m like Danster was talking for him on what I've seen is ****ing crazy.

You've gotta pay the big bucks to get the little fish.

The more I think about it, the more it can't (shouldn't) happen without Trac and/or Oliver going.

Midfielders: Langford, Pickett, Rivers, Lindsay, Windsor, Windhager, Petracca, Oliver, Viney.

Even if you turn Petracca into a full-time forward and have Viney rot at Casey (which won't happen), it's just too busy in there still. Still livid at that Viney extension from last year, it was obviously stupid at the time, and it looks even worse now.

I don’t trust that rumour anyway, what the **** would he choose Dees so early when we don’t even have a coach. Only rationale would be if we have out a ridiculously sized contract in front of him, which doesn’t work for me.

Tim Lamb has had cap space burning a hole in his pocket since last year when we tried to get Houston on a mega deal. It makes total sense when you think about it, we have nothing to offer but paying overs.
