I’m hugely concerned about our lack of small defenders too. Budarick would’ve been good. Jed Bews as an UFA? I dunno.
If Rivers takes a more prominent midfield role, who else we got down back? Bowey had a great season but played a more attacking role. Who we got as a lockdown small defender? AMW coming off a horrific injury. Surely we can't rely on him initially anyway. Bews is a good option. McVee leaving his decision uktil late meant we couldn't go after a Budarick. I think we will need to target a small defender.

Not too stressed about the lack of negating small defenders at this stage, they're gaps you can fill with late picks, rookies (i.e. McVee) or older state-league guys. Not a position you need to invest too much draft capital in.

Come on Collingwood. You owe us one for all the dregs we've accepted from you over the years.

If this happens

Think part of the reason club is pissed at McVee is he didn't request a trade until so late that they didn't have plans to replace him.
Surely they should have been aware him not signing a contract that there is a very good chance he’s going back home

Reading between the lines I think they were given the impression he'd eventually sign.
I dunno, Tim Lamb said in his interview on Dees website they threw multiple contract scenarios (long term/short term) at Judd since middle of 2024.

Not signing anything for a year and half is a massive indication. Sure they were hopeful he signs but that’s long enough of an indication he’s not committed long term that they can at least have back up plans thought out.

Not sure Pies win the '23 flag without us taking the Grundy salary dump or trading Jeremy Howe to them a few years earlier. They owe us. McReery and first round pick, not interested in poor culture soft campaigners like Hill but will take only as an act of charity.

Tim Lamb is our list manager. He's useless. You'd think a decent list manager would be on to that scenario. But not ol Tim lol

i'd be throwing Sparrow down back in pre season and see if he can play a lockdown role down there. i can't have him in the team as a forward or mid otherwise.

lol. I think we gifted them the flag because we couldn't convert inside 50's.

We will likely get a pick upgrade for Oliver. They havce an ageing list, so doubt they give up a player under 25.

Been saying this for ages. He's useless as a forward flanker or whatever tf he does. Try him as a lockdown defender. Worth a go.

I'm starting to think we'll take some good picks for Trac. If Gold Coast takes his salary that suggests we won't be asking too much. Oliver is clearly a salary dump. Paying 3.5 mil for a player not to play for you is pretty bad. They must really want him out. I reckon May finds a home last minute.

Leppitsch:
  • No to Steven May
  • Doing due diligence on Oliver, Melbourne's contract contribution will be 'somewhat similar' to what has been reported
  • Mihocek 'may be a trade' given Melbourne is getting 'a really nice pick for Spargo'. They're still deciding if they want to do that though. (I suppose why would they bother helping us for nothing lol)

Pies are going to see if they can trade Mihocek for Oliver.
