Yeah I'm no football manager but I was pretty sure we gave Petracca a big fat contract to tie him here as well, now we're paying half a million dollarydoo per annum so he can cut promos about how good Movie World is.

I don't even know why there are contracts in AFL anymore, they're meaningless.
We're not paying Trac anything.

Tell Humphrey that.

I think clubs are pushing back a little lately with this. We did last year. Essendon with Merrett. GC with Humphrey. I'm sure there's been others. Might get the players to think twice about signing a lengthy contract.

We're not paying any of Petracca's contract. Oliver we're paying a big chunk of though.

We don't win a flag without Trac, Brayshaw and Oliver who all went top few picks. We can't attract guns to our club so we have to get top picks and nail them. I don't think we have anywhere near enough young stars on our list yet. Next two drafts are super important. Would love to make finals of course, but facing reality, we don't have a finals list. I think the supporter base can cop a down year next season and being the last draft before Tas destroys the draft, it's a good opportunity to get a top 3 or 4 kid.
I agree pretty much with everything you said.

Our 'A-graders'... currently are Maxy (almost 34yrs), and Pickett (almost 25Yrs).

Our 'B-graders' from our under 25yrs... are imv, dTurner, jBowey...

Cameron Nairn kicks like Simon Godfrey. A left footer with a hitch in his action. Everything looks great though.

We also got a very good deal for Petracca. The point I'm making is we hold the whip hand in any negotiations.

Gold Coast gave us two picks from the junk drawer that they weren't going to use, and a pick upgrade for 2026.

Turning trash into treasure.

They are getting a free hit with Trac.

So much for Dim Lamb's posturing about requiring a quality player in return!

I don't really understand why it matters that the picks were worth less to Gold Coast. That's exactly why we got a better deal from them than we would have from another team.

Plus GC are much better than the Croms to deal with.

You’ve got to look at the bigger picture here. The club traded out Trac and McVee for two picks that’ll land outside the top 10 and a minor 2026 pick upgrade, and somehow they’re patting themselves on the back like it’s a masterstroke.

Let’s be honest, that’s hardly an embarrassment of riches.

And a secondary issue is that clubs are not coveting top selections this year. It is a buyer's market and we overpaid.

In what universe? Petty had a broken foot and they were offering us pick 10 and somehow the club didn’t have the sense to bite their hand off.

Holding him to his contract has been a blunder. He hasn’t exactly covered himself in glory since and now we get to watch him lumber around at full back, trying to reinvent himself as May’s replacement after the failed full forward experiment.

It was also rumoured they put together a fair package for Oliver back in 2023, when we were quietly shopping him, before we folded and backed down and told the world he was a "required player".

So there's another miss for the Dees-Crows trading relationship. It must be because they are so difficult ;)

" It was also rumoured" aka read on Bigfooty means a fact you can use in your little toddler rant.

Yep, all that Humphery talk was all bluster.
Tim Lamb never said we wanted players as part of trac exchange.

It was a narrative created by the media and mostly Melbourne supporters that didnt just want picks.

We obviously had interest in Humphrey but that was quickly shut down earlier on the trade period by Gold Coast and we were never a chance.

What we received for a 30 year old Petracca was a win in my opinion.

Yeah but we ****ed Oliver and Goodwin off though so that makes up for everything.

Yep. I would have traded away Trac for nothing if it meant we got rid of Oliver and Goody. Best end to a season in decades

Petty's best position was always full back. There is no reinventing here, just dunderhead Goody trying to shoehorn him into being a forward.

Bigger picture is we embarked on a mission to go into next year with clear air and to continue our rebuild. The priority is now developing the young players and Petracca was just another distraction.
