May should've met with Norf and let some people at the Dees know.

Nek minnit 3 year extension for 'morale'

He signed until free agency and can pick his club probably for a better deal after 2026 as it won’t cost them picks.

Mays deal is as dumb as Sharps 3 years or whatever we gave Fullerton over 1 year.

Then you also got Mcadams 3 years and Vineys 3 for good measure.

1 year for May is nowhere near as dumb as any of the others. I guarantee he'll still be best 22 next year.

If his body holds up. He is already starting to slow down.
His injuries are mainly fluke shit. Still one of our best kicks. A smart coach would guard against any slowing down and transition to Petty taking the opposing #1 forward and using May in the McDonald role.

No point being a good kick when the opposition know exactly where you are kicking to on every kick in.

So we shouldn't have given him another year for following instructions? Gotcha.

Which is instructed by our senior coach.. so literally following team rules but its Steven May's fault?

Right.

Where did I say it’s his fault? lol or you putting words in my mouth.

Simply saying it’s pointless having good kicks when the coaching is shit.

Sparrow bombing it out from kick ins at random would probably have a better effect as at least the opposition wouldn’t know where it’s going.

Damn, didn't realise the game was 100% kick ins thanks for clearing that up guru

And this is why I don't understand extending him early. He's going nowhere and if form and fitness are good he will get a one year deal. Why take the risk?
I don't really find it outrageous tbh. Is clearly still best 22 this year, worst case scenario he's in and out next year and Adams and (potentially) White have a premiership, All-Australian key back to learn from for a year.

I think its time to have a look into Sam Draper, as a free agent.

He can kick the footy, and can mark and kick a goal... Is more than handy in the ruck.

Bowey and Salem do the kick ins now so they can stack up with pointless stats and look good on paper.

I'd like to see Bowey receive the short kick in... and look to find another short target focusing on corridor, or run and carry.

He's awful. Ruck is the least important position on the ground.

Agree. Don't even know why we keep giving that hack Gawn a game. Could play a proper hybrid forward/ruck in his place like Fullarton.

Not sure if you're being facetious or not. Of course it helps having an all time in Gawn but so many clubs play well with honest battlers (Meek, Darcy Cameron, McInerney, Briggs etc).

Plus Max is contracted for two more years.

I still think it's good to have a good ruckman if you can, but most AFL level rucks are more than serviceable. They are a bit overrated

Gawn is an old champ, Campbell is reserve and the big V is developing. That's more than enough ruckmen on the list

Ruckmen are quite overrated though, and Draper is one of the most overrated in the league

Why would Sam Draper come here?

It is not because he is chasing success - he would just be going to another bottom six club. Talk about trading one hell in for another!

And then playing in the red and blue will give him the indignity of playing in front of smaller crowds and training in worse facilities in some shithole suburb an hours drive from town.

I guess we can offer him less games at Marvel?
