Might be thinking of Sinclair. Because of the trade ban we sought and got an exemption due to also losing Jetta. Think they put a cap of about 450k off the top of my head on this new "rule" they made up to "help us".

Edit: Here it is, the ban got revised twice, allowing for us to then get Sinclair for Jetta, and offer up to $450k. Original revision was $340k.

Yep it was Sinclair. My bad.

You're remembering the original revision to the trade ban a decade ago.

Which we challenged and got another revision so we could replace an outgoing player with another up to $450k. Which was Sinclair (for Jetta).

Those words trade ban still get my hackles up

All the Ladhams talk comes down to imo is Ladhams overvalued for his position.

Like can we get say a pick 35 for him and replace him for a service ruck that takes pick 50 or a free agent. Because if the value is the same there isn’t much point.

We took that right up until the last day.

Do you think we should have just let him walk for nothing via the preseason draft?

Frankly yes. Honestly would have demanded their first selection

Seeing Jobe Shanahan doing so well at senior level while Ned Bowman struggles in the VFL is quite frustrating

And before anyone jumps in to suggest that Bowman is playing forward in a rabble, Jobe is performing despite the fact the Eagles are struggling

I don’t know anything about Jobe.

But in regards your second paragraph, I do find it slightly amusing that according to various posts (not yours), just about all of our VFL players are only playing poorly because their teammates are no good. They’re all victims!

So get nothing, for no reason.

Just shows other clubs in the same situation that they don't have to give up anything.

Generally i think we did the best we could he was always going to Adelaide one way or another.

I think Adelaide even had a pick before Port in the PSD anyways.

The more annoying and grating thing about the Dawson scenario is when commentators or media go " how could Sydney let him go!"

Or wow he’s become a star who knew.

I wonder if he stays for more $?’’

But felt like club had no choice in the end

Yer thats something i always wonder "what if" we just threw the sink at him to try and keep him like 900k over 5 years.

Or maybe money wasnt really the main motive for him we will never know

That one was a given. Lord knows what we were thinking. See foot, shoot foot, and now filed in the Serong folder.

'Hands like Stewie Lowe' said the recruiters - we've never replaced Sam Reid, he's from NSW and he kicks goals. What am I missing?

The common denominator is that we drafted them. End of statement

I think when we got Ladhams, and I think he is still on that original deal, he was seen as a reasonably promising ruckman. We had tried to get him the previous year and Port said no, and we were willing to drop back our first round pick to get him when we did.

So I think it would be safe to assume that he would be on at least average AFL wage and probably a little bit more.

But that is kind of meaningless going into next year, because he is uncontracted. So his value now is based on the player he is now, which isn't a lot.
If Ladhams was seen as a promising ruckman when Sydney got him that's more on recruiters not doing their due diligence. Mother in law supports Port so I had watched a few of his games. If you just look at his highlights package or what he was doing at SANFL level it looks promising but the fact is what he's produced at Sydney is better than what he was producing at Port. And what's he's producing at Sydney is SFA.

Holding on to dead wood because you aren't getting much for it is pointless as you just end up with a spot on your list that's wasted. Sydney could be offered 5c for Ladhams and it would be a bargain. Anything we get for him is better than Ladhams, he's no f###ing good.

He is perfectly serviceable as a backup ruckman.

If we got rid of Ladhams, we would just have to go out and find someone else cheap who can fill the same role and would be no better.

Hes a great kid from a great family to, wouldn’t have been a flight risk

We needed a medium though, people were screaming from the rooftops for a medium forward. If you look at our list there are slim pickings behind Hayward. Was Bowman the right one who knows, but he was very highly sought by a few clubs in that range. He wouldn't have lasted to the next selection.

Hayward is 26 🤪. Heens will end up forward again when his body slows, Campbell is playing that role now, it’s hardly a screaming need

We need quality KPs much more, and Shanahan plays back and forward

It’s done now but just another in an increasingly long list of odd decisions by our recruiters

You have just named a grand total of one, and no we aren't counting Heeney as one. We need a few to back Hayward and co up there. I was all for trading our selection this year into last years draft, but most on here didn't want to do it. Could have taken your Bowman and then taken a Shanahan or whoever as the key.

We needed another medium. Campbell doesn't really play as a target which was the sort we needed. We went the X factor route for some reason however.

Personally, a KPF would have been in my first two picks though.

I had us trading in to get all 3. Was blind obvious we had to take a small forward (either first or second selection), was just a matter whether we took a medium second or a KP second. I wanted us to trade our f1 in to get a KPP but everyone disagreed
