Apologies for any inconvenience. We will try to find a replacement.
This is serious. I am not being flippant. We still get our academy boys this year and have plenty of time to ensure we do over the next couple of years.
But sure, "mortgaged the next three years" certainly sounds a lot more damning than that.
The ramifications of the 2022 and 2024 GF are still felt to this day aye... in the back of the minds a select few had to go, you just felt it was a matter of time. The papers were stamped today, regardless of cost.
You can argue that making the GF is hard and it is, but how they lost left a big bitter taste in peoples mouths

I think Hayward has been way underrated. He is a brilliant medium forward, very skilled, a great mark and crumber, very intelligent and very crafty. We do not have a like for like replacement. What he means to the culture of the club is also underrated.
I find it hard to imagine that Charlie is going to generate the same level of passion and excitement after scoring a goal as Wilbur did

Great trade period traded 4 firsts for an average to good FF.
Yah... any of them a key defender and ready to play now? No... then we're screwed
One big problem of ours (and has been for a while) is contested marking. I am looking forward to hopefully Serong and Curnow papering over the cracks in that regard.
I agree with what you're saying, the club do need to get someone in that can draft. But we have no control over that, so until then, humor is how I deal with it.God I wish people would stop saying this (even in jest).
How about we bring in recruiters to actually address the issue.
For too long our recruiting/list management has been rubbish, no sign it's changing.
For example if we pick Shanahan in last year's draft and see his development in 2025 would we be giving up Hayward and 3 Firsts for Curnow (and later picks)?
We have mortgaged our future on a 29 KPF with a long well paid contract.
Massive mistake IMO.
no WA players in discussions, unexpected player floated (Rowbottom), Swans being confident on getting Curnow all along, recently contracted players being in discussions (contracts signed just last year) and GC never really being interested.Would you rather waste another season kicking to Francis and Hambling if we cop another injury up forward?Great trade period traded 4 firsts for an average to good FF.
That’s why we got Serong and Carmichael should play very early by the way. Kyle could too. Not as convinced on King as most
I think if the culture was ruined by this then it wasn't strong enough to begin withOverall a great trade period, just hope we haven't killed the culture by trading out two long term players that were contracted
Thanks for all your contributions Bonz. I waded through pages of difficult reading just to find your posts in this thread. My source was right in the endno WA players in discussions, unexpected player floated (Rowbottom), Swans being confident on getting Curnow all along, recently contracted players being in discussions (contracts signed just last year) and GC never really being interested.
Can add a few more things now.
- We had chats with Petracca's management, but were priced out.
- Never spoke with anyone in regards to Oliver
- Did speak with WCE about trading down for an earlier pick, but got priced out.
- We spoke with many players in the landscape (mostly defenders/ dynamic forwards), were confident on our midfield for next year. (Apparently this is common for clubs, but we were very proactive this year).
I think he is one we will need to bite the bullet and move on a year before the contract is top to get some proper value. He'll be a free agent, I think? We'll get one pick only
Wins and losses today.Cats didn't get Marshall. Cool
No current season stats available
A bit OTT
Hayward and florent arent going to win us a flag
They disappear at best of times
Florent couldnt get a game this year and its not like we missed him that much
We looked pretty good in 2022 when hayward was out in the 2s
Everyone that wants us to keep the first rounders - when do you want us to contend? In 5 years when Heeney retires?
We arent winning shit with just Amartey and McDonald
People are reacting to 2027 1st without considering that it's highly likely with Tassie's picks that that's a pick in the 20s at the earliest, possibly late 20s / early 30s after FA compensation. What am I missing? Most people seemed comfortable with Pick 11, 2026 1st, and Hayward for Curnow and pick 42.
In addition to this we do a slide of our 2027 1st to Carlton's 2027 2nd and get pick 31 this year too. It guarantees we can get our academy kids. Now everyone is throwing the toys out of the cot?
How do they help the KPD position? Not the height, strength or skill set. Did you read my post?
Carlton rep said, they feel they got three firsts and another one in Hayward. That annoyed me because if that was their take, the previous deal would have been "3 firsts" oner being Hayward for Curnow and a 2nd rounder.I think Hayward has been way underrated. He is a brilliant medium forward, very skilled, a great mark and crumber, very intelligent and very crafty. We do not have a like for like replacement.
