Happy with Dean no matter the cost. As high a floor as any. On my limited viewing I'd only clearly prefer Duursma of the available players.

Golf is a great analogy for so many things in life. This is the year to play smart golf. Too many expecting to take their three wood from the rough, carry the water and pull it up quickly on a slick green.

How many picks are we going to use next year? Do we have many lists spots or are we carving up our depth again next year?
As this year proves, nothing is guaranteed and the landscape changes quickly.

Another second next year further insulates us against worst case scenarios. If nothing else it gives us another quality pick in a strong year ahead of a heavily compromised draft. It's playing the odds.

Yep, West Coast either get Dean which they would love because he is a top player and a huge area of need for them or they wipe out picks for us, elevating their pick 13.

Actually, it goes the other way.
If they don't bid, and a bid came late enough (ie Essendon) that we wouldn't trade our picks, then 13 would come in 1 spot. As it is, 13 will actually go back a spot.

Well we were looking at taking Dovaston or Pickett... unfortunately, WC want to be campaigners and bid on Dean with #3 so that plan gets scrapped.

Couple of really good small forwards will be there next year though.
This will be the downside to having a few good academy prospects, it forces us to use multiple assets on a set position of players, until the new bidding rules are announced its hard to tell how next years draft will go, we could be using the majority of our draft hand on a single player.

I am still hopeful we get another player tomorrow night, it wont be one of the well known ones which is fine, time will tell.

Cal has said before that the Dean bid wouldn’t get past Richmond. So if he didn’t get bid on at 3, he would be bid on in the 3 or 4 picks after. It’s not a stretch bidding on him at pick 3
That is purely your opinion that bidding on him is not a stretch at 3, pretty sure Richmond are spending their time on players that are actually going to take eg Robey & Cumming & Taylor players that are actually planning to take.

Essentially we are paying close to two top 10 picks for a player rated 6-10 the large part of the year.

WCE are entitled to factor in needs when it comes to who they rate where. We've seen what happens with North when all you do is draft mids with high picks.

Their backline talls were struggling when McGovern had to retire. If any club were relying on Ginbey (not his true position), Bazzo (no good) and Sandy Brock (SSP pick after no games at GC in 3 years), then they would be seriously looking at Dean.

It makes perfect sense that they rate him where they do and bid accordingly. That is the system working as it should.
The irony is they may factor in needs when bidding but they won’t be getting a KPD with their first two picks…kind of sounds like bullshit in reality.

They are also bidding on Dylan Patterson and Dan Annable according to Twomey’s phantom draft. So they aren’t just focusing on those players

The best move for us is to sit with our current picks. We just can’t get enough points to get any value in this years draft and will keep digging holes for ourselves by trying. Other teams are better at this than us and we have muffed it up.

If WC bid at 3, our picks 10&12 at time of bid will return a pick 30. Once other bids come for GC, etc. that will move down to 27 or so. Should be enough to bid for Ison with some extra, if needed from our others.

Sorry SB but that makes no sense to me. So effectively 10 & 12 would get us Dean and Ison and that's it. By trading we will get extra pick(s) next year and maybe one to use this year. If we don't we are just using what we have with limited options

Hilarious that you’ve argued we don’t know how to play the system when your method will land us only Dean and Ison, whereas the method the club is rumoured to take will land us Dean + Ison + pick in the late 30’s + future second rounder. That is playing the system if you ask me

Xavier Taylor gotta be a slider... Concerningly good at Mario Cart

You can’t really argue against a bid at 3 for Dean not being overs because the expert WCE list manager says otherwise, then on the other hand claim Taylor and Lindsay amongst others as sliders. They will get picked where they get picked.

It’s all opinions but some are getting slammed for theirs.

What’s the point of drafting a 40’s in this draft? We don’t have the list spots

We don't know yet but we will be in great position to do anything we want. This and SC room

As for spots we have a heap of players off contract and there are a number of fringe players and kids that need to show something in 2026

Even if we only make say 5 changes we can then bundle picks and go for higher quality or a big trade

We have set ourselves up to take advantage of any situation that arises over next 2 years

Would've preferred to keep pick 21 than Sydney's 2027 1st giving the heavily compromised draft.

I did feel at the time that chasing Sydney's, 2027 1st was a bit of a PR thing so the club could say it got 3 1sts for Curnow.

From a practical perspective we might have been better off forgoing it and giving Sydney less back in the trade.

With the proposed deals we are essentially trading (based on where each bid comes as per Twomey's phantom guide)

9 + 11 + 54

for

3 + 22 + 35 + 36 + F2

Hard to be unhappy with that. If it ends up panning out like that I can see us moving that 2nd pick in the 30-40 range on for an F3 like someone else mentioned earlier.
