With great respect to the dual brownlow medallist, Im kind of glad Crippa is down the list atm. Less reliance on him during the season the better, then he can go beast mode for the finals :p
Over the last 20 years we've been overrepresented for individual honours (Coleman medal x3, Brownlow medal x3).

Trade all those for even one premiership tbh.

You’re going to make that call from 5 games?
Why jump the gun on guy like Doc who’s been such a great player for us, and given so much?
Normally I would agree with you...but a few years back we gave Ed another year when we re-rookied him, which in hindsight did nothing to improve our list when Richmond jagged Seth Campbell with the selection immediately after Ed.

I was very very very keen on Campbell that draft - Tiggs pounced on him at a bargain basement price in the rookie draft and are now reaping the benefits.

Sometimes you gotta be ruthless.....I love Doc who has been an absolute warrior for us, but sometimes you gotta fall on your sword. We can get probably get another few more games out of him, or end up giving him the indignity of spending his final season running around in the VFL which doesn't benefit anyone.

I'm sure there's many conversations happening within the 4 walls.

There’s a huge difference between giving someone another contract, and forcing them out a quarter through their final year, after they’ve recovered from an ACL the year before.

It’s disgraceful and embarrassing. No other words.
It really isn’t. He does not want to put his body on the line for the sake of the team. We aren’t winning anything if we have blokes like that in the team. No disrespect to Doc, he seems like a great bloke and is a wonderful example to young players with the adversity he has overcome, but his time in the league is over IMO. No shame in that either as it happens to every player. I would have absolutely have no problem with him taking a player development role as I think he is a great role model to younger players but if he plays another game for the league side then out club is in serious trouble as there is very little benefit of this version of him playing. This may come across as harsh but if we are fair dinkum about success then these are the decisions that need to be made.

success only need to look at Geelong & Richmond models were individuals sacrificed chasing massive $ for team success.
Geelong signed Dangerfield on a big deal from Adelaide initially, maybe subsequently less but a lot early, and Richmond signed Tom Lynch on a big deal. Big to the point Alex Rance on TV queried whether spending so much on one player was a good idea - then they won 2 more flags.

Not by you or I. Respect!

Put better than i could.
I have all the respect for Doc in the world. He’s been a warrior and heart and soul of the club.
But he hurts us on the field these days and one of our problems as a club over the last 20 years is keeping our champions in the side for too long, often at the expense of youth.

It would be premature for Doc to retire at this point of the season. Our depth has taken a hit with Newman, Smith and Kemp unavailable.

Also the form of some of our experienced players like Acres, Fogarty, Haynes, McG, like Dochs, hasn’t been consistently great either.

But there’s still 17 games to go and as form fluctuates the depth provided by all these players will be important.

Dangerfield played for Geelong Falcons and was from the area, it was a major factor to return to Geelong much broader reasons than a good contract, Lynch was also coming back to a strong Melbourne club again more factors than chasing $.

TDK's move to the Saints would be purely driven by $.

When Danger signed it was reported and mentioned by players that his deal wasn’t more than Selwoods, his move wasn’t motivated by $$$.

I can’t remember any such comments when Cameron signed for around $900,000.

Both Geelong and Richmond got these players when they were right in the hunt for a premiership, which is important I think

Not just champions kept in the side for too long.

we'd need to have 2 very good prospects in the MSD to make an early call on Doc, and that's unlikely.

But he'd be a great asset playing in our VFL team for a period, more valuable than a non playing emergency.

Precisely, weird arguments to be retiring somebody so early in the season. Makes zero sense, there is absolutely nothing wrong with any player young or old playing at the next level down to find form and confidence.

Personally, I think the coaching group are finally starting to get the message about selection integrity. Perform or you’re out of the team
