He was meant to be a first round pick
Don't let the pick bias effect the judgement
He can seriously football
Other clubs will look for his signature next year
We need to sign him
He's signed for next year & on top of the world after playing his debut game.

Dunno what you're talking about with the pick comments.

Ross clearly rates him very highly ("that one game will pay off tenfold next year").

TDK is coming mate. Best you get onboard & save yourself the grief of arguing with a bunch of RWB Rucci's.

To be honest, even though its Carlton, I'm a little uneasy with all this gloating about one of their players leaving in free agency for an irresistible offer

I think footy's better when the good players stay with their clubs.
Modern football doesn't work like that these days

Years 3-7 will be circa 2028-2034 with a TPP that you would expect will make $1.2-1.3m very manageable.

Nothing to stop us smoothing out the final few years past 2034 either (although he might be on a walking stick by then).

McGovern, Williams & Martin were borderline spuds when the Blues threw A grade cash at them (in combination with their actual A graders also being on massive coin.)
Williams and Martin were no where near spuds before they went to the Blues , before they got injured you would have been calling them guns if they had played for us

Hi all I Come in peace.

Firstly congrats on signing nas genuinely stoked for you all. Secondly what’s windhagers trade value IF he decided to request a trade elsewhere?
Not sure, will be an interesting one, based on a 5 year deal, a late first that would turn into a mid 20's.
More interesting in why North would go after a player basically a mid when you a chock-a-block with talented young mids. He wants to be a mid not a half back flanker.
Curious offer.

That GWS supporter who came in earlier said it best, due to their injuries he had to play the Buckley role rather than the intercept defender role (wouldn't be surprised to see Aleer dropped this week due to Buckley's return). I think the club sees Aleer as the Battle replacement, ie. the intercept defender who isn't locking down a gorilla forward.
I’ve seen him play 1 game where I thought gee he’s going to be a player, it was against Geelong.

Other than that when I’ve watched he’s been worse than ordinary, the past three weeks all shockers. I haven’t seen much to indicate he can play the intercept roll.

Someone at the club obviously thinks he can hence or offer to him, until he actually signs with us he’s fair game and I call them as I see them. If one of the wild rumours is true and we land SDK what would we do with Aleer.

If and when he signs then let’s hope it’s new club, new coach, new game plan and new Aleer.

I am having difficulty comprehending WHY many are so keen to off load WIndhager?

Do we know if the reports of his asking price of 850k per year are correct?

Be also interesting to know what other players his equivalence are earning around the competition.

Im not sure who it was, but someone suggested Windy is not highly rated by Lyon, which I find very hard to believe the way Lyon speaks about him in the media.

He is not the perfect midfielder everyone was hoping for but gees he has improved his game exponentially every year. As a comparison how much has Mitchito improved since he first burst onto the scene. I wonder what $$$ Owens is on?

Personally I love Windy and he would be one of the first picked in my midfield.

Agreed

I'd be asking for Duursma straight swap. I think Windhager has shown plenty more than Duursma, and don't think North Melbourne would be offering him a similar contract either.

Zlugger Cordy
9 goals 0 behinds for us
21 goals 3 behinds in his career
Sure it is a small sample size, but maybe he could teach Owens and King how to kick straight.

It doesn't need to be him though. I would be happy if anyone at least told Owens how to hold the ball properly when kicking a set shot and King to stop rotating the ball before he is about to kick it.

So many , id say not many want to off load Windy , he is a heart and soul player , you need them and he is only going to get better

I can't literally see one person that wants Windhager to leave lol.

You are making stuff up again. As usual.

There is discussion about what would happen if he did leave, but everyone wants him to stay.

I want him to stay.

Its rather bemusing that we can all see what they are doing wrong yet they don't seem to be trying to fix their issues

Good post, I like the analysis

There is a major problem though

If you're Rowan Marshall, and you'd prefer to be #1 ruck, and suddenly the club wants you to ruck 40% of the time, what would you do? Fair chance you'd explore other opportunities.

On balance, I wouldn't mind this strategy if Marshall's on board. But ultimately it's the money that worries me. It's just too much in my book.
Marshall can explore all he wants but the club has to agree to let him go

You don't need to. Grab a cheap back up ruck in case Marshall goes down. Develop Keeler and Dodson or even hang on to Heath as the emergency back up. I don't rate rucks very highly. I reckon guys like Knobel would be nearly free and develop into something adequate otherwise.
You do understand that if the club grabs a cheap back up ruck, then you’ll be upsetting some people.

I am with you, really think the best is to come for Windy, but I think the reason some are a bit meh is the 'reported' 850k a year. Turns out its more 700k x 5 offered.
Like us they have to overpay to get a player out.
Like NAZ we are asking him to go to a new level over the next two for the big pay day. NAZ stepped up and got himself a monster deal.
Up to Windy to back himself on 600 for two years to show he is worth the big pay day or take the safe option and cruise at a struggling North on 5 x 700k not having to push himself to improve as he has a guaranteed payout.
Depends on his character what he wants to do.

Just waiting for the melts next year

He has played in 2 incredibly shit Carlton sides which has impacted his own form due to the side struggling aswell as then being thrown forward.

It also appears as if he went into self preservation mode with a significant deal waiting in the background

You are such a huge Roma fan, bet you haven’t compared Roma at TDKs age. (Hint it isn’t Roma who comes out on top).

These points make no sense. I could understand a FF suffering due to being in a shit team, but in what world does playing with a midfield of Cripps, Walsh, Cerra etc limit the form of a ruck? Rucks literally start the game.

Going into self preservation mode isn't exactly a virtue. Even though we don't look fondly on him, Battle gave 100% until he left.

Take a look at Marshall's stats at age 24 compared to TDK at 24. Yes, Rowan's numbers took a nosedive for a couple of years when we recruited Ryder and tried to make Marshall into a forward/second ruck, which he isn't much good at. TDK is significantly worse as a forward, unfortunately.

So we'll be left with two number one rucks who can't play anywhere else. And one of them will be on more money than Martin, Bontempelli or Petracca will ever have been paid in a year..
