there is no way you're getting a late first for windy right now. the guy was taken much later than that in the draft.

your best hope if you are after draft currency is he solidifies himself in the midfield more over the next two seasons.

btw i consider windys kicking and decision making miles ahead of say Byrnes or Wilson. Both of whom i think have trouble with clean disposal.
if clubs are offering him north of 850k then that's late 1st territory.

Dear St Kilda

Please sign everyone we need today and do not sign anyone who someone on here doesn't want.

Yours sincerely

Whomever

As usual the stupidity level go up at trade time. We have finally started to get the list in order and most of the talk is of losing ground. It’s an absolutely critical point now. Going bottom 4 for another long stretch will do more damage than paying to get a few signed up. SOS wants a broken down Sam Walsh to stuff it up Carlton. He’s going to have to sacrifice players to do it.

My main issue is paying Windy 850k is what do we do when he is up for his next contract renewal. Assuming he improves as a player naturally are you comfortable paying Windy 1m+?

I get we’re all feeling a bit precious with the Nas situation but we start caving to agents now then we’re royally ****ed in the future.

We can decide then. Trashing players just as they start to get to their peak is insane. Especially when we have so few in that age bracket.

im horny jack nicholson GIF

TDK deal will almost definitely be front-loaded so if he was traded in say 3 years it’d be at most like 1.4m per year before considering the fact we can pay a % of the salary

He’d have to seriously improve for us not to need to pay part of it or otherwise lose Dodson being more likely. He’s probably a $900k absolute tops player. If he’s disappointing probably $700 tops.

if clubs are offering him north of 850k then that's late 1st territory.

There is no rubric for it. If Sydney want him they aren’t obliged to offer us anything close to a first. If Windy wants out it would get done for their second round pick. Probably pays for Aleer.

In one of my responses to him I said we need Nas and a couple more of that calibre to go with him to be successful.

So yeah, a few hundred K to a few players adds up.

You pay your stars the big money. Everyone else falls into line.

Love windy. Love what he represents. What he brings to the club and playing group.

But as of this contract negotiation. He isn’t a star.
So don’t pay him the extra 100-200k from the $1.5m net win from the Rowell situation.

Again, glad you’re not an accountant.

What do you reckon the footy club would do if Williams said “it’s 2 mill” a year or he’s leaving” reckon we do it? Even if it’s just for two year and he leaves at least the SA clubs will have better assets. Might be worth it
You would hope so.

1.7m is probably the figure for only the first couple of years (depending how long Carlton’s cap is at capacity for) but the media need clicks
Everyone keeps saying this with zero proof of it.

Alternately the reports about Nas are all unders.

Boggles the mind the mental gymnastics this joint does

the $1.7m figure comes from a reported $12m over 7 years

so if it's $1.4m/yr over the last 4 (max), it's a minimum of $2.1m/yr for the first 3

just imagine if we paid him $6.4m for 3 years' service and then traded him (whilst still paying some of his salary), squeezing out the likes of Windy in the process. burn it all down
see, this is where journo's get hysterical, and it's then parroted, esp here on BF, as gospel

they hear the figure $1.7m and 7 years and go to town, $12m blah blah blah it's also not the agent's best interest to correct that figure.

but like nearly every other FA who has left, the deal is front-loaded and usually around that sum mentioned, but then smoothed out in the backend to discourage (Carlton in this case) from trying to match.

go have a look at the Daniher move to Brisbane as an example, high initial figure, then they renegotiated a longer deal and smoothed out the $
