Firstly, I didn't think nuffy meant what it did. I thought it meant something like "overly enthusiastic in an uncool way person".

Collingwood don't play in Geelong because Geelong don't want to play Collingwood in Geelong. At least maximising attendances has a wider financial benefit to the league through equalisation revenue. There are ways to make the fixture better while keeping revenue rich blockbusters.
AI is good with language...
... in Australian slang, a “nuffy” can mean someone with an obsessive, almost nerd-like fixation on a subject, but it’s not exactly the same as “nerd.”

  • It’s often used in sports culture, especially AFL or NRL, to describe a fan who knows every stat, player, and rule and won’t shut up about it.
  • It can also be used more broadly for anyone with a slightly over-the-top, socially oblivious enthusiasm for their niche — trains, fishing, 1980s wrestling, whatever.
  • Depending on tone, it can be affectionate (“he’s a total cricket nuffy”) or dismissive (“don’t be such a nuffy about it”).

So yes, it overlaps with “nerd” in the obsession sense, but not in the “book-smart” or “tech-savvy” sense. It’s more about fanatic focus than intellect.

If you want, I can break down how “nuffy” differs from “nerd” and “geek” in Aussie/NZ usage.

How many seasons in the system are you giving him before giving up on that?

Some guys take time, especially KP players.

Sicily didn’t play senior footy for basically five years. There are many, many others in the same boat.

Don’t get caught up in the fantasy some supporters live in, where if you're not a gun in your first three years, you're written off.

I’d say if he can apply what he’s learned this year to his footy and keep making incremental improvements, he’s still on track.

Good post re the victim mentality. And agree with you re Geelong being a damn well managed club. The evidence is there to see as you have outlined. However, it's not exactly a level playing field. They have their own recently completed, upgraded 40,000 + stadium. It's a fortress when you look at their record there. Must be 95% plus pro them crowd when they play at home and I have no idea of the actual numbers but would be very surprised if the financials on their home games aren't off the charts compared to our home games at Marvel - 11 or 12 times every season. But yep their management, stability and player development is best in the comp.
I had a behind-the-scenes tour of Kardinia Park through work a couple of months back and it's an impressive setup. All 4 of their clubs (AFL, AFLW, VFL and VFLW) under one roof for admin, games and training.
It's the biggest event space in Geelong at the moment until their new Convention Centre gets built, so every big event in town goes there throughout the year. It has 30odd event spaces throughout the stadium that are all fully booked on every match day as well.
The fact that the cash goes to the footy club is a point worth arguing, as it should maybe go to the City of Geelong, but as an organisation and setup, I left very envious.

Keeler wasn't taken by a S.A club because of his aplication. He's had three years now on an AFL list and the same issue persists. With Keeler it was never about his natural ability which he has in spades.

As good as he looks i think it's more unlikely then likely and i say that thinking at one point this year he could turn into a Paddy Ryder. I think that was wishful thinking.

I understand your points. We have been our biggest enemy whilst there has been inequality in the AFL. So, until we get out own house in order, crying to the AFL about FS/Academy isn't doing to change the fact we are poorly run.

Add to that, we are pushing to remove the FS rule when we have at least 5-6 potential FS picks on the way. Why try and remove something that may end up finally benefitting us? I understand there are no guarantees but there is every chance a Lenny Hayes jnr is playing at a different club, all thanks to our own stupidity.

Somebody make it make sense to me?
Our CEO is on record saying that when the draft was least compromised there was the most equal representation of teams making grand finals there has ever been. They (we) just want it back there to give everybody a fair chance.

You blokes have nothing better to do than argue for argument sake.

TDK is overpriced 100% but he makes us a better team. Same with Leek.

I couldn’t give a **** about their salary but I just want to see us win one.

It’s in 5 years when our kids are asking for dollars and the list is a couple of players short that these deals bite.

Wasn't this debunked by someone on this board who had contact with someone directly involved with Keeler?

I'm pretty sure it was just a rumor/speculation at best anyway.

I don't get the vibe that he lacks application. I get that he's probably had a wakeup call about his lack of body strength however.

Wouldn’t Aleer be out of contract in 5 years time and TDK is rumoured to be significantly front loaded … so they don’t represent an issue ?

Rough figures but a 40,000 crowd at Geelong nets the Cats about $25 per head ($1M per game) which is about 4 times the rate we'd make at Docklands for a similar size crowd.

They'd need to get 90,000+ at the MCG to get a similar return to what they make playing in front of 40k at Geelong.

Nah definitely Tom Morris. He and Kane were moaning about how Ross didn’t let him ask questions.
That's because Tom is a cuck, and cucks just sit in the back and shut the **** up

I really really dislike him

I will admit to not following his under age years but being the "best ever"? How much of that could have been about physical development?

Could it have been a case that he already had an adult's body playing against genuine kids?

A bit but he was 10 times better than anyone else whenever he played. Even as a 16 year old against 17 year olds from the draft above him.

We gets something crazy like 70% of our matchday profit from the one or two games we play at the MCG. Our Docklands deal did and continues to absolutely screw us. Then people outside of the club complain that we require equalisation payments.

All through our successful period we were screwed by our stadium deal. If we had of been compensated similar to an MCG tenant, we would have had $10m+ more to spend through that era.

I am not saying that our management was perfect, but more than one thing can be sought to be improved at the same time. The stadium deal, the unequal access to top end draft talent, and improved corporate performance, to name but three.
