2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Same link mate.

For the record. I call Cmac another Max Hall.

And I posed the question in this thread that I have no idea what’s happened to Flanders. I want him. But he has half the disposals this year compared to last. So would be keen to see what his CBAs looked like in 2024
I’m not talking about the link and what’s accessible there. You’re not highlighting somewhat proportionate CBAs for McKenzie and Flanders. Just for Windy. It’s contradictory mate

The club aren’t going to play hardball to the extent of Nas and use PSD as leverage. There just isn’t the appetite. Bigger fish to fry
The club will do what’s required to get themselves their desired outcome. That’s been said by Ross and written in the Caro article.

If what Finey says is true and he wants to get to Melbourne. A mid first rounder gets it done. It’s what the Melbourne Board are expecting aswell

I never even mentioned the other 2.

People are going on about windy. But unless he was tagging of late. He wasn’t seeing a CBA.

If you want to bring the other 2 into it. Go for it. Not exactly sure what point you are making here? No one has compared them as similar players.

Unless we're getting an absolute A grade mid like Butters, I dont think it's worth losing the guy that could very well be our 2nd best mid next year (I rate Hall higher but worried about second year blues)
Hall is a better mid that Windhager already. You can see it. Hall has the smarts, is clean with the ball, one of our best kicks and can play in the congestion. Windy at this particular point in his career fumbles when in congestion, and his kicking is really hit and miss. So no way Windhager will be our 2nd best mid. It'll still be Macrae, Hall, Flanders, Mackenzie, Windhager (so fifth in line). And I wouldn't think he'll be happy with that.

Would like to think that our recruitment team and Lyon will base their decision on a body of work rather than one game .
I would too, though if it is true perhaps they are teetering. Or say worried that Aleer has not been progtressing quick enough.

Or maybe Lyon just wanted one last look.

If they had concerns they shouldn’t have tabled a multiple year deal for him.

Personally I just don’t see what the attraction is , outside of his leap I don’t see much.
Yes of all our target, he is the one that excites me the least. Moreso now that we have landed JSOS as a FA.

Agree with the Hall part, coz I've seen it

If Windy goes to a basketcase club who spent the year without a CEO, where most of their guns are either 33 years old or a shadow of their former selves (Gawn, May, Petracca, Oliver), and finished below St Kilda the last 2 years....

Will the cheerleaders in this thread still be convinced in the direction of the club, and that we should just "have faith in the list managers?" because "they know what they're doing"?

Asking for a friend.

It's on Windy, not the list managers
So, your saying we should match Melbourne's offer?

Idiots!
They create a wave of inflation through allowing ridiculous offers to be publicised and then lowball decent players of our own.
Windhager would be rightly insulted to be ranked below Aleer.
The imbecile Misson strikes again, another Lovett/Ball scwnario!
What would you recommend we do then? How did you think Hawthorn got Barass and Battle last year. They paid up big for them. Battle as a 3rd tall was not worth $900k. Mac Andrew is worth a $1M (yes, a rake thin who is athletic but really not a star), so the market sets the price. Not us, we would be paying a little over the market price to entice the player, there's no other way these days. Loyalty comes second when money talks. Yes, Windhager is a good player, but a gun midfielder he is not, he is a tagger/winger at the moment, which says a lot. He picks up a lot of posessions in the half back line (mind you this is where Billings were racking up numbers as well).

Plus we had to spend the cap anyway, do you over pay your mediocre players or bring in players you actually need.

I actually like the way we're approaching the windy situation. (With the exception of nas) you can't be a winning club by begging players to stay and paying overs for your current players. If he wants to leave for a little bit more money it's not the end of the world, and it shows to other players that you won't be able to squeeze every dollar out of the club

Not a free agent.

Doesn’t get to Melbourne without a trade. It’s the Nas situation all over again.

We are protected by the need a trade has to occur.
Who mentioned free agent? Odd direction to take.

Everyone knows contracted players hold more trade value than uncontacted ones First rounder is a pipe dream.

over pay is one thing but the figures mentioned for Aleer seem ridiculous for a bloke that’s acheived nothing!

Oh right.

So St Kilda goes around throwing 5 year deals at an injury prone 27 year-old, and a mammoth 8 year deal to a 26 year old who's never made an AA40... while offering Windy 2 years as other clubs offer him 5.

Windy gets frustrated by this.... and it's 100% on Windy and no blame for our list managers?

To quote a famous tennis player...

"You cannot be serious!!!"

Because he can’t get to Melbourne. You’re still requiring a trade that satisfies stkilda here.

The alternative is west coast at pick 1 who also want him in the PSD.

Wont make it to Melbourne in the ND as shallow as this one. They don’t have a FRP.

We forget Windy was the one who came up with the final strategy to beat Melbourne in the comeback of the century. Must have a great football Frankie Laine. Give him the $50k.

9 pages behind so apoligies if this has been raised

but wonder if there was anything in windy moving house, any issue with one of the other two

probably not,but strange he would want to go with the way we are potentially heading onfield & playing with his mates and a large contingent of indigenous boys compared to other clubs and led by the likable hilly

We've upped it to 4 years, that's our value of him right now.
We see TDK & JSos as improving the list.
The market is dictating the value of the players now, not a true indication of their value
We have Windy's position covered
We need TDK & Jsos more.
Fans will go to games & buy memberships to watch TDK, Nas & Jsos
Not so much with Windy

So wait

St Kilda offers overs to a 27 year old who's played 68 games the last 6 years (JSOS).

A longer deal than other clubs offered, and more money.

We offered TDK an extra $600k or whatever per year, more than Carlton

Yet we're blaming our own 22 year old midfielder who's played 75 games in his first 4 years, for wanting St Kilda to pay him what other clubs are willing to pay?

All I'll say is, I hope no Saints players have BigFooty accounts, they'll realise how deluded half the fanbase is, and how they're happy gaslighting players
