2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

With all the analysis of every component of this great game ,I never see the balance of home grown players v traded in.
I have always been of the opinion the home grown talent should always exceed the traded in ,but also your Captain always be of home grown variety.
We haven’t started trade week and some minor cracks amongst the new v the old players and wages are appearing; Windy,Marshall. The only saving grace is RTB is a string no nonsense coach.
The last factor we need is to lose Windy a player we don’t have anyone else like his skillset.Prefer to lose Steele, our Captain I know ,but his use by date is up.
I think it might take 6 months for everyone to bed down their positions and understanding of each other, and click in the back half of next year.
So what I would ideally like to see
Windy stay and be in the leadership group.Pay like 600k, with 200 on incentives for team performance of ladder position.Give a Cherry car if needed.
Marshall to stay and play forward next to King.
If Windy leaves ,throw in Heath to Melbourne for Harley Langford, dream result I know.
Marshall to Geelong for a player like Close,Holmes SDK,O Sullivan .You have to give to get cats.

Would be good to have two decent Ruckman on the list, for depth mainly
Rarely works out having two though, think Gawn & Grundy.
Have we not learned after trading McEvoy and Stanley and watching them be a part of a premiership team.
We were short in forwards and backs this year and always in danger if Marshall got injured.
Do we want to be in the same position with just De Kining?

So I guess we are just believing Mark Fine and Windy is gone?

Seems no lessons were learned from the Nas saga clearly, from a select few 😂

If Windy leaves I will be disappointed. I believe he could get significantly better. But it's no guarantee.

But this situation, if even true, is completely understandable from all parties - Windhager and St Kilda both.

But the amount that people are overrating him is ridiculous. This is the moment the forum incels were waiting for after having their face rubbed in their own wet beds regarding Nas 😂 I love it. So predictable. So entertaining. We all knew it was coming.

Play on is the call though. You guys make this place what it is 😍

Giving Marshall to the Cats is especially not a good thing, keeps them in the premiership window.
I would hold on him, for that reason alone
And just can't see them giving us anything of much benefit.

I don't think many people are over-rating him.

But the facts are

  • 22 years old
  • Played 75 games
  • 24 coaches votes this year
  • 3rd at St Kilda for inside 50s this year. 5th in tackles and clearances
  • Durable. Has remained mostly healthy over his first 4 years.
  • Gives his all. Week in, week out
  • Proven he can do multiple things, including tagging which is a niche skillset and can be useful.

Offering a player like that 2 years while throwing huge offers at injury prone or unproven guys was pure hubris by St Kilda. If we lose Windy we have no one to blame but ourselves.

If you had your way we would be sitting in No Mans land forever

Too scared to spend ... too scared to move players on
No we’re spinning like a top.

What’s really happened is we became frustrated and impatient so rather than continuing what looked like a quite rebuild we threw a Hail Mary.

I could speculate on who’s driving this but it’s high risk and far more likely to wind up a failure than a success. We’re the Cleveland brown of the afl. Clubs don’t do much damage in our phase being conservative but you can sure as hell blow the place up for a decade in a hurry if you get too creative.

Yeah I get it, why not us, screw the afl, fly the black flag, we all want to win and win now not in 5 years time. That doesn’t mean the conservative or negative are wrong.

I know it’s not popular but unless there’s a part 2 coming soon I don’t fancy our chances.

They have offered him 4 years. You are again going off the deep end and your facts are wrong.

Projecting again.

Why was Steele playing sore? He should have b
Was playing sore for most the year.
I understand people thinking we should trade him, and or move past him as captain etc. but we still need mids. We've potentially got good kids coming through, but they still need time and a buffer.
Steele is not what he was, but he can still pinch up forward and rotate with a guy like Pou.
Why was Steele plating sore? He should have been rested.
