2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

What’s our list situation if Marshall Heath & windy go?
Would be at least 7 out with 4 more with decisions still to be made on.

Would have 4 confirmed ins, potential 1 or 2 more if Flanders and Cmac happen. Dont have a great draft hand.Would need to find another ruck.

I'm still team 'Keep Marshall'.

They have offered him 4 years. You are again going off the deep end and your facts are wrong.
They initially offered him 2 years.

This was widely reported.

They only increased to 4 quite recently when they became aware of interest from North Melbourne. And now it's Melbourne too.

Insulting offer by St Kilda. Really disappointing.

I’m wondering if there is a world where we take multiple first rounders to the draft.

A 4 year deal that was widely reported from Twomey to Morris to have gotten the job done

I don't think many people are over-rating him.

But the facts are

  • 22 years old
  • Played 75 games
  • 24 coaches votes this year
  • 3rd at St Kilda for inside 50s this year. 5th in tackles and clearances
  • Durable. Has remained mostly healthy over his first 4 years.
  • Gives his all. Week in, week out
  • Proven he can do multiple things, including tagging which is a niche skillset and can be useful.

Offering a player like that 2 years while throwing huge offers at injury prone or unproven guys was pure hubris by St Kilda. If we lose Windy we have no one to blame but ourselves.
Yeah mate.

You're actually right for once haha.

Well done.

Windy is a solid player. Bang on.

The club has rated him at a price point and another club has offered significantly more to get him out.

There are a lot of midfielders coming through at the club at the moment.

It seems like a pretty standard situation to me.

Certainly nothing to wet the bed over but this is why I come here haha. For you guys 😍

Why was Steele playing sore? He should have b

Why was Steele plating sore? He should have been rested.
I agree...but maybe our lack of mid depth, and not having mature bodied guys in the 23-28 age bracket might be a reason. We probably thought we were a chance for finals for at least 10 rounds or so too.
Playing him forward for longer periods would've helped keep him fresh. The ball barely got down there again until the last month of footy 😄

The problem is the offers made to aleer and more so SOS dont align with the treatment of windy battle etc.

Windy leaving will be a massive fail IMO

What's your point?

They offered him 2. Then increased to 4.

That doesn't change the fact they initially made an insulting 2-year offer to one of our best young players.

Meanwhile spending the whole year courting TDK and Aleer, and then long-term offers to injury-prone JSOS and almost-29 year-old Ryan.

So I guess we are just believing Mark Fine and Windy is gone?

Seems no lessons were learned from the Nas saga clearly, from a select few 😂

If Windy leaves I will be disappointed. I believe he could get significantly better. But it's no guarantee.

But this situation, if even true, is completely understandable from all parties - Windhager and St Kilda both.

But the amount that people are overrating him is ridiculous. This is the moment the forum incels were waiting for after having their face rubbed in their own wet beds regarding Nas 😂 I love it. So predictable. So entertaining. We all knew it was coming.

Play on is the call though. You guys make this place what it is 😍

I would honestly say a lot are under rating him or just assuming he's already peaked (hard to imagine as a 22 year old )

Giving Marshall to the Cats is especially not a good thing, keeps them in the premiership window.
I would hold on him, for that reason alone.

Initially is in the past
They've offered him four currently.
I think the 5 year offer from others is overs.
You obviously want us to match
I get that too.
I'd preferably sign him up over Cmac & Flanders
But that's without the knowledge of those two really.
If anything yes, Windy has been, durable & dependable.
That's important to the team.

5th in tackles & clearances would say he is our 5th best midfielder .... even Garcia had more tackles and same amount of clearances in 6 less games

3rd in inside 50s ... he had 78 .... and only 8 Goal Assists .... so either he was missing targets or our forwardline werent good enough to capitalise on his stellar work

He was also 3rd in turnovers behind Wanga & Macrae

He has taken 4 contested marks in his 4 years ... as many as Naicos (who took all 4 this year) who has been ridiculed about it

He is a decent player ... no one is doubting that .... but he is well short of the top line mids

That’s called a contract negotiation chief.

If we offered 4. They would have then asked for 6.

We offer 800k they ask for 900k

Not the best place for this but I havent seen it mentioned elsewhere;

Boxshall came 2nd last night (on 52 votes) in Sandy's BNF despite only playing 9 games.

McLennan won on 56 votes playing 15 games.

It's easy to see why Boxshall is rated highly internally.
Can see why we traded up for Boxshall. 45 Boxshall, 52 Dodson. Nailed the back end of the draft.
