2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th

So does not having a specialist pressure forward.

Yeah, that's fair, but I still think it's a fashion thing these days. There aren't really many specialist negative forwards at the moment. Hawks seem to have changed the landscape.

But are the Dogs prepared to pay significant overs as in a star young player and a FRP, because that’s what it’ll take. Nothing even remotely less. If not, he stays it’s that simple.

Bulldogs are desperate. Real desperate.

Pony up bitches. If you want our second best player, who is contracted for another 2 years, offer us your second best player and the additional interest of a top 10 pick.

We’ll give them a short list of names they can choose from. Make them feel is if they’re in control of the trade.

In fact, let’s tell the media who the names are. For the sake of transparency.

I bet the whole thing sinks like a stone in a lake.

I liked him in the draft but you’d need a lot more than him for Wilkie.

He’s 4th banana is a great midfield plus a few bulldogs supporters have potted him for being a head dropper who panics under pressure. Mind you I’ve read crazy things on here as well so take it with a grain of salt.
Freijah and their first.

In other news, still not a single report of what would be the biggest trade bombshell this year.

So an update on Windy from an unlikely source aha
But the latest episode of the Dan Gorringe Podcast (DDF) that dropped today had them discussing it and Ollie Geale (Saints Gameday Announcer and MC) who's a member of the podcast just showed Gorringe messages that he's been sending to Windhager and seems very confident that Windy is staying.

Ollie showed Gorringe the messages between him and Windhager and whilst they didnt show the content of the messages, Gorringe laughed and straight up just said "Yeah i think the Melbourne news isnt true". Dismissed it as a complete joke

Seems as if this is just more maneouvering by Windhager's agent

Earlier on, Ollie also stated that Liam Ryan had messaged him over a month ago (before Liam Ryan was even on the radar) regarding the culture and atmosphere of the club and its fans, and was seemingly following saints re-signing nasiah very closely.

This is all in the first 22 minutes of the podcast, if anyone else wants to hear it and confirm what I'm saying. The stuff about Windhager is specifically from minutes 19 to 22

They seemed very confident and firsthand messages are way more reliable than the old heads on SEN
Just listened to it. Lol, Dan pissed himself laughing reading Ollie's text from Windhager about Melbourne.
I don't know who is the bigger troll, Armooo on the smooth brained Wilkie thread or Finey on SEN about Windy. 🙂

So we'd be paying massive dollars to bring in mature players only to trade our best mature player for draft picks?

Seems like a strange move to me.
Not if we had a plan for those draft picks.

I'm in the Wilkie is our next Captain and going nowhere camp for the record.

Sounds like Nathan Buckley doesn’t want the Melbourne job, according to Sam Edmund.

You’d have rocks in your head to want to go that club right now. They’re headed to the bottom of the ladder
Poisoned chalice that job.

Their list is cooked.

And their base is at Casey Fields.

Hardly an attraction for incoming players.

Haha just watched it, he must have texted yeah I'm about to sign or something.

Which Star player do you honestly think is up for grabs that we need to get all these draft picks for?

But it'll be at the expense of roles I believe are important.

I'm a "three genuine talls" forward guy, which means a true FF (King), a true CHF (Sharman), and a forward/ruck (Marshall).

Which leaves three other spots on the field. A leading small forward (Higgins), a high-half forward (Hall), and a pressure forward. A seventh forward starts on the bench and covers all positions (Owens).

I don't see the role for Ryan unless it is at the expense of our height (which has undoubtedly been an issue for ball retention), or one of our better players having their role diminished or replaced (Higgins, Hall, Owens).

Could it be that we are moving our highest CBA mid in Steele on, or at least transitioning him out?
Ross has mentioned all of Hall, Higgins, NAS (think we can cement NAS in mid now lol) and even Wilson as players he'd like to roll through mid (I can't see Wilson being a CBA mid yet but it has been said).

Hall is the most exciting of that bunch for mine, love his use and decision making.
So if he and Ryan are both playing, do they both play the high half fwd role switching mid, with Hall playing a higher percentage of midfield?

Then it is all down to form on who else is selected (obviously) between Wood, Owens and maybe Pou if not mid ready across the HFF?

Actually watched him in the game against Frankston Saturday night and was a class above everyone else. Elite kicking and just seemed to always have time to set players up and run to positions before everyone else. What a shame wasn't that level at the highest grade. Not sure what Melb do with him.
I thought Darby Hipwell & Jackson Voss looked better than him

What would the plan for those draft picks be?

Unless it's on trade them for Butters, I don't see the point. All the other players we have been linked to can be easily trade for with what we already have.

Port also reiterated TODAY that he won’t be traded under any circumstances.

15 non rucks on that list with a very good chance 13 of them are at the club next season. Four are probably HBFs so that leaves Macrae, Steele, Garcia, Boxshall, Windhager, Pou, Wilson, Hall and Carroll (knock him out too).

I'm fine with Steele and Hall swapping as the high-half forward, but if Ryan comes in, he takes one of those spots on the team. Or Higgins'. Or Owens'. Or the pressure forward. Or the third tall.

(BTW, in my mind midfielder does not necessarily equal centre bounce attendee. Any non back/forward/ruck is a midfielder. Some play inside, some play outside, some do both.)
