2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Methinks the Blues priority was a bit different perhaps.

Love that the saints didn’t go
I am loving the big FU, the Saints are giving the whole competition.
So sick of being the meek little Washington Generals, pushed around by H.O and rivals who see us as irrelevant mid table nobodies.
We stand up about NGA's and FA's and the self interested schills cry whingers, get better as a club.
We get better as a club, save nearly 6 mill plus to spend on players and the clubs get their noses out of joint. How dare St.Kilda try to get better by the only means possible, how dare they resign a star and ignite their supporter base. How dare they take to Carlton FA's one under the nose of the Bulldogs and Collingwood.
The clubs hate the arms race we have started, but were happy enough to take free FS and NGA's not available to us.

Now we thumb our nose at the hand holding trade talks even though they are 20 minutes up the road and other interstate clubs came to town.

I am loving the Saints standing up to the rest of the competition and saying no more FU, like it or lump it.

I wonder if Wilkie was on $800k pa but due to forward payments he will be getting $200k for the next 2 years. Dogs come in and offer in $1.2m and suddenly thats a $2m decision. That's a lot of cash when you are playing alongside $750k pa Leek Aleer

The other thing with Wilkie is he is one of the rare players in the AFL where he is unbelievably durable. 150 odd games straight is just insane. Even though he is 29, he could still be playing at a high level at 35. That also has to be taken into account with his value.

There was a numpty Dog's supporter in the general Wilkie thread that wanted to use us getting Macrae as a comparable example with Wilkie due to age etc. I nearly spat out my corn flakes with the laughter.

Look at his time on ground % lol, I’d be surprised if he’s sat on the bench 10 times in the last 3 years combined

phantom13 I'm kinda missing the “restraint of trade” garbage that we had thrown at us.

Maybe Wilkie should request a trade so that Ross and SOS can say no unless we get Richards or Darcy

That would be a proper melt from the pug board 😂
What? The smooth brained Chihuahua's think they could win a court case with restraint of trade with a binding contract?

It is the definition of restraint of trade. A legal contract has been signed that constrains the signee from playing for another club for the length of the contract; unless mutually agreed to terminate said contract.

WTF are those halfwits on about 🤣🤣🤣

This is the level we are dealing with, gents:

"Sheesh, last year there were Saints fans arking up about paying a pick in the 40s for Jack Macrae.

Filled a position of need. High quality (AA in prime). Highly durable. Great person. Great clubman, beloved by teammates and fans.

Downside was he was turning 30 before the following season and had a couple of years of a sizeable contract attached.

Now the roles are potentially reversed, but Wilkie mirrors the above.

So now you think a top 10 pick and more is required?

Yes, talls cost a bit more but that gap is just wild."

The high court is just sitting there waiting for someone to try this one.

Such a shame Wilkie is contracted so we can’t even get the “we’ll just take him in the PSD”

They will make the afl mediate the (non) negotiations and we will have to settle for Rory Lobb.

Plenty. Not the Dogs but we are going around offering obscene money to players who are still under contract. More would be going on behind the scenes too.
Yehhhh…

I take all those stories with a ****ing enormous grain of salt. The Callaghan one was pretty well debunked as “we said how high we’d go not actually making an offer and we only did that cause his manager approached us”.

I reckon this story is similar, afl journos are ****ing gutter scraping shit heels.

SOS: So Dogs, you want Wilkie hey, what are you gonna give up for him?

Ameet: Future 2nd??

SOS: Lol, nice try Ameetos, we know your "Future 2nd Jedi Mind Trick"....

Sam Power: We've got a young key forward, highly rated, went high in the draft....

SOS: I'm listening....

Sam Power: He recently signed a big extension, but we'd reluctantly pay some of his deal.....

SOS: OK, Sam Darcy, we can work with that, nice doing business with you....

Sam Power: Ah, not quite so fast Sos....

SOS: What?

That person is why a bag of mixed nuts comes with the warning that it may contain nuts

I’d love it

“Mr.Beveridge, Mr.Baines, you’ve been gifted enough elite talent through father sons and bullshit NGAs to fill a premiership cabinet 5 times over, ignoring Jamarra who you clearly ****ed up you right now still have Darcy and croft who cost you **** all, play one of them back and stop wasting our time you deadshit, case dismissed”

I think we have to understand Max King is 25 not 18with potential. My point being under 22 up and comers.
He hasn't been consistently healthy since he was 22, and only played 83 games.

So although he's 25, he's still an "up-and-comer" in the sense of being inexperienced and somewhat unknown.

We're in a holding pattern before we can determine what he'll become.

Very similar to Charlie Curnow a few years ago. Or Daniher before he went to Brisbane.

I’d love it

I’m talking myself up to the thrill of listening to trade radio complain for 2 entire weeks about what pricks we are because we won’t send Wilkie to the pugs unless we get Richards back.

I’m expecting him to go because you don’t meet with other clubs post your exit meeting if you are staying.

My point to you was that, if we retain him and that will be the case unless we are well compensated - we can effectively make it work

We might have give him permission to look around

By those calculations he received 2.8 mill in two years, can't really complain, especially if it helped get his Logistics company off the ground. Lots of interest saved on loans with an extra 1.2 mill front loaded.
And pretty dishonourable to take the front loaded $$$ then be upset he is on a low amount for the last two. Not really captain material.if thats the case.
Wilkie is an accountant, he would know that cash injection would have saved him substantially regarding his business. Also those non tendered contracts he got from Lindsay Fox's company would also be in consideration ( don't know if this is true, but who would be surprised?)

100% agree, incredibly dishonourable, which is something Wilkie doesn't seem to be. It would be a horrible look for him to do it but I've seen people do strange stuff for money and thats a lot of it!

Most likely hes going to sign a 2 or 3 year extension on higher than expected money to take him up to 33/34. This testing the market exercise will probably net him an extra $250k pa for those twilight years so good luck to him.

There aren't too many sides in recent times that have bottomed out for years and had success. Melbourne probably the only one.
Richmond finished bottom 2, 3 times in 4 years. 2007-2010. Culminated in 3 flags.

Brisbane finished bottom 4 for 5 straight years 2014-2018. Top 4 ever since. 1 flag, 1 very close runner up.

Thinking about the new free kick rule.
Should not affect the rucks in any way. Maybe a couple less throwing, however as off hands are not frees, the defensive kick long to the wing wont be affected and the ruck would be the main target.

Wont affect Lyon's stoppage play in any way in my view.
