2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

The fact is, we're bringing in 4 new players on generous long-term deals, and they'll be 29, 28, 27 and 25 by next year's finals series and have 3, 4, 7 and 3 years left on their deals.

Perhaps prelim next year is a little overcooked, but if St Kilda hasn't played in a semi-final by the end of 2027 it'll be totally fair to question the current moves.
So we only have a 2 year window?

He’s gonna be so salty when Ross has Nas on his shoulders with a premiership cup in hand in 12 months time

I want us to be shit most of the year, get to be the first to play off for wildcard round and win through to a premiership just so he can feel like he's going to sink the boot only for the boot to swing up and kick him in the head.

At the risk of going on about TDK…. I haven’t been as bullish about a recruit in recent memory.

Yes Ill admit I do love a quality ruck, but watching him early in the year, I haven’t seen a big bloke with that presence and impact in years. I’m confident without the contract stuff hanging over his head, he will be the most dominant big man in the comp and the contract will look fine. Also hence why I’m ok with trading Ro.

Big call I know, but I’m sticking to it.

If they allow a ruck run up he could be an absolute weapon. Probably over takes most of the big lump rucks and pushes right to the very top of the class.

So according to Barrett if we don't make a prelim next year our plan is a fail...

How does this guy have a job in the AFL media? For the AFL website no less. He's a dead set joke.

He's not really a journalist. He's more of a milquetoast Kane Cornes. His role is to wedge a splinter under your fingernails for attention. The more reactions his dross gets the more he earns.

If its 1.5m a season. You can't begrudge Wilkie looking at leaving.

Id be open to it but we'd need something coming back that matches that offer.

1 x top 5 pick and a very good player or another top 10 pick.
It’s all smoke and mirrors, and will be yesterday’s fish and chips paper soon enough, tomorrow.

Wilkie will stay, Windy will re-sign, Wilk’s will be captain, and we can look forward to training reports with JSOS, flyin’ Ryan, TDK, and hopefully sexy Flanders.

Bloody oath! Would love that, but seems unlikely to happen.

Main points from the Wilson vid:
  • Caro understands that there will be an All-Vic game on Sunday night (Labour Day eve) at the MCG in Opening Rd
  • Pies are petitioning to stay at home for the coming Opening Rounds
  • Will defo be 2 Queensland games and 2 Sydney games plus this MCG match
  • St Kilda is proposing to play Collingwood every year in Opening Rd as a Spud's Game
  • Next year will be the 60th anniv of our GF win vs Pies, (our only cup in case we forgot, thanks Caro)
  • Club view this event as perfect opportunity to launch the documentary we'd started making directly after Nas extended his contract
  • Dogs (once again) are all "What about meeeeeee?" - I'm guessing they've been working on their proposal forrrrrrrr about a week - Demons also trying to get in on the act
  • There could be an international music guest being on the bill as well (Meat Loaf might be free*)
  • This will be part of St Kilda's consistent recent campaign to play more at the MCG, this is our only request with the fixturing.
*relax that was a joke
Surely Ed Sheeran will do it for his love of Warney

why not Carlton

Ryan Reynolds Smile GIF
If we play Collingwood there will be close to 100,000 there.

Imagine that.

Our people will turn out in force.

And imagine if we belt them as well.

Our leadership right now is on point.

It's amazing, when you put the energy into becoming relevant you become relevant again. Nas becoming a premium product is absolutely huge for our credibility and marketability.

The side should look a lot more exciting next year too. Ryan is a showman, TDK is a marketers delight, Aleer jumps like a gazelle, Tauru the man who will sell a heap of plastic helmets, Wilson kicking mini bags, Snags running around like Papley on speed, Nas doing the pretty stuff, our little goal farmer in Hall, a fit King. We might not be massively improved but we should be a lot more exciting to watch at a minimum.

This is how you make people want to put you in the Friday night games.

Its not going to help the Eagles of course, but I'd love to see Elijah Hewett linked with us - especially if there's truth to the Steele rumours. OOC in 2026 so unlikely to be allowed to leave regardless of interest but he'd be a great addition as a mystery mid.

He's from WA isn't he? I really liked him in his draft year. Haven't really kept up with him recently.

Geelong’s first round pick sucks ass, if they want Roma coming into the lean years on his contract they will have to pay up and pick 20 something isn’t it. Wonder if SDK would be keen to play alongside his brother, we’d have to throw in a decent pick to get it done but fk I hope SOS + co play hard ball and try it. Much prefer to keep a leader like Marshall and try the 2 ruck combo unless we’re getting absolute overs.

I actually think that they'd consider it. He's really dropped off after being injured last year and O'Sullivan coming on quickly and taking a KPB role away. Probably more likely too get Clohesy or Stevens thrown in with their FRDP though.

Sure, but it doesn’t change my stance on opening round. Having only half the teams compete is farcical. You end up with clubs getting an extra bye to make up for it, and this year showed it makes rescheduling games a nightmare that ruins the ladder for the whole year.

Even if the GC/Essendon game is a once in 50 year event, having teams with early byes and extra games leaves the ladder a mess until the mid year byes are finished.

I’d hoped the AFL learned their lesson from this years disastrous Opening Round. I guess not.
Completely agree. It makes the opening weekend of footy feel like it's preseason.

How can the AFL expect the fans of the remaining 10 clubs to get excited/care when their team isn't even playing.

yeah, George Stevens please

Sheer hubris by Melbourne FC to put their hand up for this on top of having Kings B-day every year.
Melbourne would almost certainly lose King’s Birthday going forward. Playing Collingwood is the magic of that day for them along with the MND fundraising.

They should be careful what they wish for.

More importantly, Saints targeted TDK specifically to pair him with Roma, not replace him.

So if we're going to backtrack on that tactic, it'll need a bloody juicy offering.

I’ve pointed to their first half of the season and how good he was a number of times. That was my eye test.

What I posted from the article just supports that
I agree
Watched him early season and said a number of times I can see why SOS liked him he was a gun early
Lost it later that worries me but then there’s circumstances which I get
