2025 List Management Discussion - Part 3

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

The nuffies on here can believe what they want.

People who have been on here long enough know that I've never made any big claims before. We have all seen little Tony50/50s darts record before.

I think it's clear how seriously we should take Tony's word.
When do you suppose everything you are claiming would come out in the media? We aren’t just going to wake up one morning during the trade period and Cal is traded.

I'm not surprised to hear Collingwood are having a sniff around Caminiti.

He's unlikely to be first choice for us next year...

Seems to me likely to come down to either lose him this year for a pick in the 20s or next year (when he comes out of contract) in the 40s or beyond.
Howard's last year more like it, then we won't have any bigger bodies back there.
And won't currently get a pick in the 20's for Cammo anyway

I think from watching him train and speaking to him back then that he was a bit of a perfectionist and a bit neurotic. He was exceptionally shy at first and we really seemed to have a eye on picking overly nice or meek characters as much as it became a joke on here.

You could see the cogs whirring when he played and little voices in his head telling him that he wasn't good enough. Nas seems to play with that incredible instinct and it's like some primal excellence oozes from him in a flow state. Having an ability to access that shit could make you the best sport psych going.
Was the safest of pick 3's you could imagine. Because a generational player was picked at 4, he has been unfairly compared. It is absolute hindsight unlike the Paddy/Petracca farce.
He was just so unassumingly vanilla. The Murphy cuck game in 2017 where we beat Carlton, he had 30+ and kicked 5 goals. I can barely remember seeing him. Had no explosive speed, penetrative kick, huge leap, nothing stood out. What he was, was neat, tidy, with good skills and could get to the drop of the ball.
Murphy Reid is everything Jack Billings should have been. Jack Billings in hindsight should have been selected around the Murphy Reid draft pick..
A real shame. 170 games but could have been so much more.

Ross has added one ride on his shoulders ala Nas, well played to Windys manager for sticking fat.

There's also the possibility that he has a breakout year and secures his spot.

I don't think we'd get a pick in the 20s for him, but even if we did, its a weak draft apparently. Would rather have another year with Hammer for depth and the chance he improves.

Absolutely no need to push him out the door.

I reckon he's easily a regular player. If King or Howard don't stay on the park he's already in the side most weeks. Aleer looks a fair way behind him.

With Webster gone and Battle never properly replaced there is a few open spots in the back 6. Jack Silvagni is a walk up along side Wilkie. Still need a tall to play on the bigger forwards. Might be that we prefer 2 very tall forwards than a lot of mid sized too.

The only aspect of the Camma thing that makes any sense would be if he feels he doesnt have a spot in the 23 anymore (and plenty dont think he does).

The risk of bringing in 6 fas i suppose.
Yeah, true. It'd be pretty disappointing to lose him, potential in spades, maybe the SDK rumours are true.

Ross is very keen to play him alongside King if our backs don’t get injured again. He’s one of Ross favourite players and he will be best 23 if fit.

Ive said it for ages, I think we need a fullback and i reckon hes the guy.

Howard has the brain fades and the body issues, Camma screams set and forget FB for the next 10 years to me.

JSOS, Tauru, Aleer probably battling around the finges for 2 spots but Camma and Wilkie would be my first two picked in the backline every week personally.

In that case I'd keep him. Could easily break out this year, and if not, a 20 pick difference a year later in what may well be a draft with more depth wouldn't be the end of the world.

Not many 21 year old key position players have played 56 games already.

I think Hammer would be frustrating to coach due to being a few sandwiches short of a picnic, but to give him up would be a shocking list management move.

Losing Hammer for Aleer for example sends our list backwards and we'd be paying for the privilege...
I get a bit sick of all these casual slurs on our players. Hammer is an engineering student. Haven't met anyone with an engineering degree who is "a few sandwiches short of a picnic".

I saw Edmund tweet the Pies are into Buller from Sydney, too. Those mobile types that could play either end. Feels like they're expecting Mihocek to depart?

You must not have met many engineering students.

A couple of my friends who did engineering were mathematical geniuses.

But talk to them about anything else and you would swear they were the dumbest people you'd ever met. Seriously struggle to get out a sentence. But put some technical drawings in front of them with some complex equations and they can skim over it like its a breakfast menu.

Atar score of 95. Currently doing a Bachelor of Science at Melbourne Uni focussing on engineering maths. He's the full picnic.

I know some absolute morons who had good ATARs and some of the stupidest people I know are lawyers. It's not irrefutable proof of intelligence but I do think it's probably not ideal to use that type of slur on a person from an outside perception. That said I'd have nothing to say if I couldn't slur people I don't know.

Maybe I am a dinosaur, but apart from Howard, we don't have a key back who can compete with the gorilla's. Tilthorpe and Darcy obliterated us this season. I remember Hammer speaking to friends on the fence at training bemoaning his opponent was 15cm taller than him the coming game. That opponent was Darcy.

Lyon mentioned more than once that we were short down back. I am a bit surprised we have loaded up with similiar types in lately in Hammer ( nominally a forward) Barrat, Tauru, JSOS and Aleer. I suppose JSOS is the Battle replacement, Tauru is the interceptor, Barrat will be the Webster replacement.
Maybe we are looming at a more robust midfield to help give the backs a chopout? Wilson on a wing needed to become more physical like Wood to help out as well.
Some ex players have mentioned the perceived, ' dour' Lyon gameplan is deliberately defensive as he wanted to get the defensive side of the game embedded as muscle memory in the kids and the list in general.
Will be interesting if this whole ground defence is better with some more troops and if we get more attacking with the additions. Ryan ( with King and Henry hopefully back) would suggest so.

If he performed 4-5 songs. It would add 5-10k of his fans for the price of 1 match ticket which would be cheap.

Which would be the ultimate goal.

Absolutely. I agree it would fill the stands and be a huge get for the Saints and our credibility to stage big matches. If we play competitive finals bound footy I reckon we might see genuine interest in attending regular games too.
