2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Ainsworth is fine but I honestly think we have a much better player in that role with Hall. More possessions, more damage, higher SI's and GA's. Ainsworth looks a nice player but after 10 years hasn't been hugely convincing.

I don't know why but I'm absolute chips in on Flyin Ryan. Was a focal point on nearly the worst historical team in history. If he stays healthy and we move the footy faster I think he could be such a weapon for us. 30+ goals for the year.
Hall to the midfield, that's where he was playing for Box Hill.
I'm sure we picked him up as a mid.
It's great that he's been so good as a H.F., but we need his precise kicking & quick hands in the midfield l reckon
So, Ainsworth, Higgins & Ryan plus Butler as cover & depth, could be an awesome small forward line.
A fit & firing Henry takes Hill's spot on the wing.

I don't think it will be an issue.

A while back Essington spent an entire preseason injecting and they came flying out of the blocks.......
Except one afternoon / evening when they didn't even turn up to the Wangaratta Oval for a scheduled pre season game against the saints. It was stormy weather. They could not land at the airport.
My young children and I had driven all the way up there to see the game. No care for the expectant young fans?
They could have driven there or taken a bus.

Too affected by peptides?
What an absolutely arrogant team!
An absolute disgrace.🤔

Amazing times at the Saints. It is interesting to look back on the last few Trade periods when there was so much angst about our relative inactivity. We had little draft capital and were stocking up. I was fine about that. The vitriol some supporters directed towards the club was badly placed.

It has all culminated in us finally having a bit of draft capital and salary cap room. And has resulted in us going hard. Even harder than I ever envisaged.

This idea that we remain towards the pointy end each season for the foreseeable future is starting to be apparent. Our timing of things has historically been poor. The planning and execution this time has us on target. Ahead of most clubs. Hats off.

Now to bring it out on the field. Am very optimistic that the young guys develop further. Even NAS. Can hardly wait for 2026. Might take a little while to bed in. That will be ok. But big preseason coming up. Lots of work for the track watchers!

The 50/50 has had some developments today. I personally think there’s less chance than 50/50 but it’s certainly in play, personally not too happy about the play but what do I know. I can’t say who but he’s been mentioned in this thread, but not for a while.
Be straight about it, or don't say anything. If it's such a small percentage you suggest, just be straight with the info

I’m down the Sandy Pub for dinner and Adam Treloar is here having a meal. I was gonna tell him he plays for an Unserious club, but I reckon he may know that by now😂

If Keeler and Dodson didn’t show the upside I don’t think we even entertain the Ro Trade. Add the fact of landing Silvagni which will give us flexibility to use either him or Hammer there as well. I don’t think we lose much playing these guys next to King instead of Ro.

If they take away the wrestling at ball ups than Keeler will have a massive opportunity to make the role his own.
That is true. He’s probably ahead of Dodson if they make that rule change, and given his forward experience so far.

Seems like the general consensus is someone plays forward ruck. Just a matter of who. Dodson, Keeler, Hammer.

Goodwill was front loading his contract
Goodwill was $50k bonus
Goodwill was informing him our recruiting strategy.
The club owes US, the members, the best possible outcome.
Ross quoted Scott about not giving away contract players.
Lyon has stated we are not mucking around and not here to make friends.

Sorry goodwill from the nice Saints has been used up over the past 150 years.
Has it actually been reported that he was one of the players that was paid a bonus?

Seems a strange move from the club when everyone knew this was likely to happen.
