2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

If you can tell this from observing him for 5 minutes then I’m pretty sure the paid professionals at the club can as well.

The guy has been working his ass off to come back for the last 6 months and to make such sweeping generalised statements about him and the club from seeing him in a commercial gym for 5 minutes is really unfair.
Maybe all the weights in the recent video published by the media team were props. 🤷‍♂️

Was at a bayside petrol station this morning, Max King was filling up next to me. He couldn’t even lift the nozzle out of the bowser he was so weak. After seeing that it’s clear his career is over. Delist.
I saw that too. Thought it was more embarrassing the station attendant had to open his door and take off his handbrake

Geelong were mauled in the ruck today and were thrashed in stoppage clearances.

The ruck is a chronic problem for them. They desperately need a quality ruck. Today it was exposed on the biggest stage of all.

They may make a late play for Draper, but if not their options are limited.

Marshall is Geelong’s only other hope. And their need just increased.

Draft picks don’t cut the mustard. Saints want to get better, quicker.

Blue chip for blue chip. Player for player. Pony up.

If not, I’m happy to keep Marshall. A part of me is excited to see how a Marshall-TDK combo plays out.
Amen, brother

Geelong suddenly being open to trading SDK would kinda make sense with the relatively unexpected Curnow situation arising after SDK re-signed imo
I'm sure it had been mentioned but I would have liked this prior to the Aleer and JSOS acquisitions, not right now though.

Howard, Wilkie, Aleer, JSOS, Tauru, Caminiti is more than enough depth in tall defensive options.

Poster from the Geelong board. Close to a 2:1 likes to post ratio.

“Marshall and a 1st round will be traded for Sam Dekoning. We are going to bundle picks together and make a play for a star”
I misread that as Marshall FOR Sam De Koning and a first rounder.

Can’t say I believe it.

But it would mean Wilkie is going because that key back log jam would be the equivalent to the Monash in peak hour and a 4 car pile up before the Chaddy exit.
Not if we switch Howard, Caminiti and/or Barrett forward.

Wilkie isn't getting traded

I did as well. In all honesty, and perhaps I'm saying this with my rose coloured glasses on but I think it should be closer to a straight swap than anything.

SDK does some nice things but is far from a consistent finished product. He's just as likely to become a GOP as he is a star of the competition. I've been big on him, but surely Marshall and a first is a massive overpay.

Would opt to trade whilst we still can. A bevy of grandmas at Trackside Hampton just observed he can't deadlift a pencil so we are running out of time before the cat is out of the bag......

Need to keep Marshall no matter what.

Was surprised to see Max King at a Bayside gym this morning. Must be in the mandatory 8 weeks away from the club period.

Was even more surprised by his approach to the gym. Didn't seem to have a şet program, was walking around looking lost.

Strength standards were nothing short of diabolical. Has the strength of a 16 year old who has been lifting for 6 months max.

I know it is not a strong point but I was honestly shocked how weak he is. Skin and bones.

Furthermore, why is he training at a crap commercial gym that has a truckload of boomers clogging up the machines?

Could easily be at The Foundry which is built for athletes and has far less people.

Super unprofessional by the club IMO. I remain convinced the club is not taking strength and conditioning seriously whatsover.

If what I just witnessed is how blokes train away from the club, absolutely nothing will be achieved the next 8 weeks.

Start with going to a proper gym ffs. Absolute rookie stuff.
This bloke is going to have to have a very good 2026 for us to be good. If he doesn't get a move on the club will have to move past him, so this kind of news is very interesting and concerning, even if you get posters here lining up to dismiss it. Between Tom Lee, Paddy McCartin and him, we've spent 13 years waiting for that monster forward, I really hope Max is not more fools gold.

Strong body's and strong mind. We beat Geelong and Freo but that's powder puff home and away. Our lure is Brisbane. Sure whinge about talent (which I do) but amongst some great skill, what I witnessed today was mind and body.

I think we have the raw talent but do we have the herbs and spices to create that wrecking ball in the 2nd half where there is no team in the league that won't melt similar to Collingwood and Geelong over the past 2 weeks?

Can we build that? I think we have the ingredients. I want the cobbler to now cobble. Finals series of 2027 I want us to be deep and build that premiership team resilience that all the great teams build.
Agree totally about the big bodied mids. Back before the finals I posted this -

"On that score it's why I still think the Lions are the team to beat. When they are on, their midfield of Neale, McCluggage, Dunkley, Ashcroft x2, Rayner etc is unstoppable. We can only dream of something like that."

I was further convinced after watching the GF. They aren't just the best midfield in the comp they are the toughest. They have the ability to take teams on through the middle of the ground and break tackles without losing possession. It reminds me of Geelong when they had guys like Ablett, Corey, Ling, Chapman, Bartel etc, only better. And some of the great Hawthorn midfields of the past. It's one thing having ball magnets but if you want to be be a genuine chance of winning it you need that physical presence that can overpower the opposition mids. We are a still a long way from assembling a group like that.

Without it you are banking on fluking a weak year when you can get by with a less powerful group. It does happen but we we've waited long enough.

Are you actually in Armenia? That's on my wish list.
Well was until this morning. Have been there for the past fortnight. Before lunch we drove back into Georgia and then this afternoon we crossed into Turkey. Armenia is a beautiful country, that we very much enjoyed. If you are going to Armenia include Georgia in your trip as it is also incredible.
