2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

What have we been doing the last four years if not replenishing youngsters?

Lyon 1.0 had the basis of the Thomas built team and topped up for a tilt at the flag. Finishing higher up meant late picks as well.
Lyon 2.0, the build started before he arrived but wr hit the draft hard for four years before this spend.
There is one more uncompromised draft before Tassie.
We have flexibility to use the picks on a top player, get a FA or hit the draft in a better year.
Joff, I was talking the last tenure. Absolutely we have stacked up on youth. And doesn’t mean we can’t trade out. I just hope we don’t lose first rounders in the years ahead desperately trying to snag that “final piece”. I’m fine on this year, next year fine depending on who it is.

And pre-2010 we absolutely had a weaker hand, but we were pretty poor at keeping good youngsters coming in. It was pretty lean post-Goddard’s draft.

“TDK contract fallout” 😂

Dear god.

He isn’t leaving because of money and he asked to go last year.

But circle it back to TDK mate.
A question for the 25 people who liked this post.

If St Kilda hadn't signed TDK, would Marshall be leaving?

If your answer is yes, then explain why the rumors of Marshall leaving emerged later in the season, once it was basically confirmed TDK was coming.

Was it merely a coincidence that our number 1 ruck just happened to decide he wanted out, immediately after it was confirmed he'd be replaced as our number 1 ruck?

But but the pug fans have been adamant their club is so well run they already have Butts lined up now they have missed on JSOS and Wilkie. They will not overpay because they are a big club who will win flags blah blah blah Bont Blah blah
Pahahah love it

I thought I did make the distinction between Lyon 1.0 and 2.0, however I agree, we burnt lots of picks on top ups and trades (16 for Lovett) leaving us vulnerable when the compromised drafts came in.
This time we have reverse engineered the situation and have stocked up on kids (hopefully another one in Fincher this draft) and if we get F1 will have two frdp's to be flexible with prior to the compromised drafts after that.

Also may be plenty of movement of our players in 27. Have 17 OOC then so will be of great interest.

He wanted out last year but as a contracted player we kept him cause we didn’t have an alternative ruckman.

He wants out this year but as a contracted player we will keep him unless we get a good offer as we now have an alternative ruckman.

HBF yes, last line on the best small forward is a massive ask.

Most experienced players can’t handle that job, we’re really going to miss JWeb. What a pity Paton had the bad break, he had the size, pace and leap to go with the best of them.
Paton was a good trier but he didn't have any standout star qualities to him IMO

He asked for a trade to Geelong last year.

After you explain why Marshall sought a trade to Geelong after the 2024 season, and how that impacts the “TDK is the problem” narrative.

Michaelanney fron Adelaide did a pretty good job as a small lockdown defender in his 1st year.
So you searched far and wide to find one who was a first round pick just to prove me wrong
I'm not doubting the kid , just think its a big ask , how would he go on Cameron or Bobby Hill at his best ?

For me, it’s less about what the cause is and what the balance of him leaving plus pick/s vs staying. It is hard to not to think that it’s been the driver, it’s more this “fall out” garbage from the media. “Oh no, we brought in a younger, at the least equivalent, ruck and also have a first rounder too”. That’s not a fall out to me, that’s good business. Albeit on stacks more money 😂. But hopefully his coming helps us in less direct ways too.

As I said earlier, considering he's obviously been talking to the cats for some time, I think it's more a case that Ro sees TDK coming in as an opportunity to get to Geelong, rather than a reason to leave.

No I thought of one kid off the top of my head.
