2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

I hope

I hope you’re right but am placing none of my hopes at all on Max King. He’s one significant injury away from being an injury bust. If he comes good it’s a bonus not an expectation. The club should start planning contingencies for a forward set up without him.
User name and post content don't check out.......

Cheers to another successful day everyone

Hoping we can snag another indigenous small forward like Bobby Hill or Malakai Champion. Imagine having Collard, Liam Ryan, and 1 more dangerous crumber causing havoc.
I don’t care what race they are let’s just get a good one.
Hope Lancey Boy gets to see some more development next year because with the ins we have if he gets a run he would have definitely earned it.

Time to get excited about our very own Mr. Flanders, described as “explosive, clean with x-factor”. hope he becomes a star like Neale after being traded to Brisbane from Freo

CAN WE PLEASE PUT THIS ARGUMENT TO BED?

ST KILDA HAD NO WAY OF HAVING A MID-SEASON DRAFT PICK.
We just had to NOT sign Harry Boyd and back in Heath.

I think we won by getting Flanders. Pick 7 seems like a good result for both clubs. We understand Flanders is contracted (Geelong????) and GC didn't ask for the world. It is also sets up a basis for cordial trading with GC in this trade period and maybe going forward.
I am pretty comfortable with this trade TBH.
Imagine if 7 went to the Bombers as part of the Petracca shift, and then back to us as part of a Steele trade.

Agree. You don't want to be digging your heels in on every trade otherwise u end up being Essendon.

We want him, if we pay slightly overs it doesn't matter. Get the deal done, shows we mean business. Next.
I remember in years gone by purple and company frothing over Geelong and how they ‘just got deals done’.

Now that we’re the ones operating that way it will be a case of ‘they overpaid’.

Still kinda thinking if Roma goes we should offer Moose a few years. Obviously it'd be on the cheap. If TDK gets injured don't think we can rely on Dodson yet, just doesn't have the tank. He was cooked at the end of the couple of games he played this year
Moose is gone.

He is the categoric number 2 at Melbourne.
He might start as the 2 with us. But Dodson will eclipse him and that is known by him.

I try not to get carried away but if the following happens (which in reality, is realistic) then **** Brisbane and their three peat attempt it’s coming home to the bayside
  • King returns to pre injury levels
  • JSOS & TDK play a full season the way they started this year
  • Pou has the breakout year he was supposed to this year
  • Flanders goes 2024 mode
  • Nas continues his hot run
Lots of Ifs there mate. But I agree on them all.

For me, it’s one specific thing that I haven’t seen in a Stkilda list in over 20 years. Infact 2004/5 would have been the last time.

It’s the depth. It’s the argument of who should be in our 23. It’s so many players significantly off their ceilings as players and the argument as to how to balance development and winning.

If every poster did a best 23. I’d be surprised if we have more than a handful with the exact same sides.

That’s the strength for me. That’s where Ross finally has to come into his own and coach every ounce of capability out of this list for the next 2 years.

We can make a fair argument that if the above occurs. We should have elite players on each line, because that is the level of potential we have.

Per Gubby.
TDK is an elite ruck in their eyes.
Flanders is an elite mid in their eyes.
JSOS is elite defender per statistics.

Over to you Ross.

If we can get Nick Daicos this year, then it'll be truly spectacular. Just don't think it'll happen given our splash so far.
I don’t really care where Daicos ended up, it would still be worth it to see Collingwood supporters heads wobbling and exploding.

What do you think we might get for him, a third rounder or something?
Probably mate.

I’m not overly concerned with specific returns.

I’m willing to look at this when trade period is over and judge collectively.

Totally agree, a few ifs, but I think you could mount the case for another dozen that might move the needle.

Correct, we now have depth across every line. Even someone like Keeler nipping at Kings heels with a big preseason.

Do I genuinely think we win the flag next year? No, but I do think we could end the season with a significant number of players who are rated elite in their role that can take us much deeper than the list we’ve had for 15 years has.

I just want to get to round 1 with a fully fit list. A big pre season in everyone.
