2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

Soldo was a bit different, he failed a medical. That's a clear red flag that no one would dispute as grounds to walk away.
True. But we don't know the real reason behind this change of direction.

I would say that I expect the extra money given to Wilkie had something to do with it.

I just don't really buy this idea that we didn't want to pay an F2 so we pulled out. Why. It explore walking him to the PSD? Fact is once we signed Silvagni he didn't make a lot of sense.

We probably just decided we didn't want him anymore. The asking price is just the excuse we've given. If push came to shove, we could have easily scrounged up a pick in the 30-35 range to give to GWS in either the Flanders, Ryan or Marshall deals.

Somebody should remind Josh Jenkins that we did the exact same thing with big Ivan Soldo last year. Think TDK, JSOS, Flyin' Ryan and Ned, and their respective managers, must have missed that.

Think Soldo failed a medical with us. But regardless, things change all the time in the trade period, just think of those almost trades that never happened. Damo is really a drama queen, but then after all, isn't this the job of a journal? dramatize everything so they have a job.

I think you’re right. Maybe explains why we didn’t haggle with GC to get something else back from the Flanders trade

True, or we could have someone else in mind who's cheaper and more of a sure thing --> SDK. Here's hoping.

We obviously put an offer to GWS for him but they just wanted more, so we walked away.

This whole management team is about not fluffing around and not getting fluffed around.

Already got 3 trades done this period, so it’s not like we aren’t willing to deal.

We just don’t wanna get bent over

End of 2nd round pick for a start of 3rd round pick and Liam Ryan. Lol yeah I'll take that. This club is clearly ceasing on the momentum and perception of the club amongst the established AFL players. The interviews with JSOS and TDK was very complimentary of the club and our coaches, Flanders keen to get played in the right position, Liam Ryan moving to the other side of the country.

Keen for us to move on to Charlie Curnow now.

Out:
Marshall and our F1 out (plus more steakknives?)

In:
curnow

how?
no idea

But we'd have the cap space to match or beat any other offers he gets with aleers $$$ back.

We need a gun marking fwd more than anything else (inc humphrey and sdk) if roma goes.

No Welcome Liam Ryan thread?

Geelong have seemingly offered a 1st, and we are still talking that hes staying, so I very much doubt that will get done, and correctly so. If were gonna be left with just 2 rucks on our list (Keeler is not a ruckman) , I want a Godfather offer thanks
You want Longmire’s head in bed next to you when you wake up?!

With the Aleer thing, I don’t like it, but at the same time, I’d like it even less if we took him just because we said we would, even though we know he’s not needed now.

I honestly thought at times we would walk away from TDK, but it ended up happening.

Until the deal is done and you sign, nothing is certain.

Why is this such a big deal? Must be a slow media day.

Didn't Geelong walk Jack Martin to the PSD as a delisted free agent after not wanting to pay for him? Was there drama then?

But we still have a week of the trade period to go.

Doesn’t sound as if we tried very hard.

I love the club and will always defend it, but the lad publicly nominated us ages ago. That has to mean something.

We need to ascertain all of the facts, and pre-judging is always fraught, but on the surface it doesn’t look great.
