Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.

I doubt the first bit, I doubt the second bit even more.

Footy media has a very short cycle. A Geelong player can OD in club or the club get caught cheating and it blows over in an hour. Multiple umpires have been caught fiddling with gambling and unethical behaviour and no one even remembers it

Every board you see the same rubbish that tge media are out to get them. There are 18 fan bases that think Damo and Kane hate their clubs in particular.

The nuance and detail makes this a slightly different case to pretty much every other one I can think of.

I’m certainly not saying all the blame is with us but it looks horrendous for us right now and we’re doing nothing to defend ourselves.

Enough nuance makes no two things the same if you go far enough. And why defend ourselves if there is no need to? It’s usually those that feel they have done something wrong that come out aggressively and defend themselves.

Just hold off and judge at the end in totality and consistently with how others are judged. That would be an amazing thing for most people to do. I accept that it’s a footy forum where people are allowed to over react, I certainly do, so I mean within that context - peace brother!

But why not put the rose colored glasses and consider it as doing him a favor and telling him now, rather than letting trade period expire and taking away his chances to go elsewhere. But that’s not a good clickbait narrative.

From my understanding you guys spent a long time trying to convince Aleer to leave GWS and join your club. He initially rebuffed your approach, but you kept going with offers of big money and opportunity and you told him how much you loved him as a player etc…

On the back of constant aproach’s, you convinced him to come, so on the back of this Aleer rejected the GWS offer and obviously didn’t entertain offers from any other clubs that may have come his way.

A contract term was obviously discussed, and it would have also been clear what was required from a trade value standpoint.

The Saints should at least be honest with Aleer and not give some BS story about not being able to find a pick to get the deal done.

Can’t believe we are back on the saints have no idea. Reminds me of the period of time before NAS signed and people where losing their minds. We have made five or six trades / deals and dealt with everybody fairly, yet here we are blaming our own people without having a clue. It’s amazing nuffie time. Some people are desperate to be upset.

No, we can count, but we may have been banking on either Marshall or Steele being traded, and may have not counted on JSOS being available.

The alternative would be to delist Caminiti or Hall and re-rookie, or delisting Carroll or Dow and agreeing to rookie them.

We may not have wanted to do that for Aleer though, its still a gamble.

Hall is the only cat A rookie atm
Carroll is a rookie l suppose, think he is out the door though.
Caminiti goes on to the main list.
Dow, Said, Stocker could be all choices to be delisted & re-rookied.

I didn’t say that I’m normal. Just don’t take it too seriously so you don’t look like me.

I’m relieved so obviously that helps but it will blow over. Tauru loses games by bringing him in. It was a bit of a messy look but better to pull up now than do the cowards thing and stall until the last minute and blame GWS.

Would much prefer at least one of Dow or Carroll on the rookie list, nobody else will try and snag them.

From my calculations, we may still need to delist one of Carroll or Dow as it currently stands and re-rookie them!

Yep and can stay on the Rookie List.

Guys, I am 100% on the money here.

It's not contract value, its not draft value, when push has come to shove we have prioritised the players to be traded in that we needed / wanted to prioritise, didn't want to bend over for Geelong with a contracted Marshall, and didn't get any bites / Steele had no interest in leaving.

It 100% makes sense.

Reckon we still need to delist Carroll or Dow and re-rookie them given we have given them a contract for 2026.

Future second with a third coming back is already overs for Aleer. I have no doubt that was our final offer and GWS has baulked at it so we continued with the other trade we were needing to get done in Ryan.

This screams of the other side attempting to influence the trade by taking it to media outlets, hence his manager having a public tantrum. Usually it just simmers behind closed doors until late negotiations occur and something happens but GWS may have just shot themselves in the foot.
