2025 List Management Discussion - Part 4

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

2025 KEY DATES
Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th
Trade Period: Monday, October 6th - Wednesday, October 15th
AFL Draft: Wednesday, November 19th - Thursday, November 20th

I love Moose but it’s better for both for him to move on. We are getting very tight for list spots. Keeler and Dodson are going to have to stand up and that’s not a bad thing. Moose might be a lot more established if he’d had that opportunity

I'd rather keep Moose ove the Boyd /Campbell types, but...i don't think we need one of those any more either. I'd rather make do with Keeler or Dodson if we had to .

If Carroll has been re-signed as a rookie
Means we have 2 cat A's- Carroll & Hall
2 cat b's- irish lads
32 on the main list
Add 4 trade recruits & fincher
Means 41 on the list
3 list spots available
2 x rookies- Voss & Wanganeen
1x primary
It's out of Byrnes, Heath- traded?, Jones, Schoey, who could be retained
I'd be surprised if the Wanganeen rookie spot story was true. Sounds like classic made up media, but we'll see. There's been no word on it since before Nas re-signed.

Give me a spell mate… a dog act would be to string this along til next Wednesday then walk away.

Leek has 6 days to find a new home or return to the Giants.

We’ve actually done the right thing by him by calling it off now.

I’m a bit disappointed as I would have loved to see what Ross & Boris could do with his athleticism & untapped ability.
6 days to make a life changing decision when your options have likely been limited.

Everyone on here would be filthy if that happened to them.

Barrel is saying we offered a 2nd, but wanted something back. If a 3rd or 4th round pick is the hill we've chosen to die on, thats concerning.

I actually am expecting to hear more to the story. I don't think we would have been dicks for no reason, its only the presently available information that suggests we're in the wrong. I'm open minded though.

Aleer was a first round pick, so gws definitely rated him 6 years ago. Now after 5-6 years in the system, he is still talked about as a potential good player, definitely is a case of hit and hope kind of deal for us. Yes, he is athletically gifted, but not a natural footballer, just screams bambi on ice when I see him play this year. And as a 24 year old, it doesn’t give you a lot of confidence a club like gws hasn’t developed him

From my understanding you guys spent a long time trying to convince Aleer to leave GWS and join your club. He initially rebuffed your approach, but you kept going with offers of big money and opportunity and you told him how much you loved him as a player etc…

On the back of constant aproach’s, you convinced him to come, so on the back of this Aleer rejected the GWS offer and obviously didn’t entertain offers from any other clubs that may have come his way.

A contract term was obviously discussed, and it would have also been clear what was required from a trade value standpoint.

The Saints should at least be honest with Aleer and not give some BS story about not being able to find a pick to get the deal done.
Nice story.

I've seen Tauru in 10 or so games without a pre season and at the age of 18 show equal too or greater spoiling and athleticism than Aleer. Watched the last 6 or so games of Aleer since we were rumoured to land him and wasn't impressed at all.

Lacked defensive awareness and positioning badly. Good athleticism but was out positioned numerous times.

We have Howard, Wilkie, JSOS, Caminiti, Tauru which is more than enough and if all are fit someone has to probably miss out. Throw in Barret and Hastie who i rate (can play medium or small) and there will be some unlucky players.

We will be needing a FB in about a year or 2 and one that is around the 200cm mark not another 194cm player.

Can someone ring that Andy and Gazey show and chastise them for not being tough enough. Say that the Saints should be investigated, fined, draft picks stripped and points deducted. Say as a St Kilda supporter you are disgusted and will be microwaving the ten $7 memberships you bought.

If anyone wants their day ruined, have a listen to this

Hahahahahahaha. Ahhhhhh **** that might actually be one of the best things I've heard in a long time. Oh my god, that is funny. Wait... this talk of "claims" against St Kilda for making an offer and then not getting him in... If GWS didn't agree to the trade proposed, would THEY not be "liable" for these claimed losses by blocking the move?

Is any party or organisation liable for damages or lost income because they don't release an employee or convince their current employer to let them leave their current fixed term contract?

Truly asking the big brained questions are Andy Maher and Andrew Gaze.

Unfortunately for them, their "big brains" in question, are entirely smooooth.
