2025 List Management Discussion - Part 5

Now that our season is over, and news is starting to break - it's time for a fresh thread.

This thread is to discuss all things list management - trades, draft, free agency, delistings and more.
As we are now officially in our off-season, we'll be wanting to keep this thread more strictly on-topic than the previous iterations.
Be respectful. You are allowed to disagree with someone - but play the ball, not the man. Repeat offenders will have their posting rights revoked.

Thanks to Lore once again for this incredibly useful spreadsheet.

Free Agency Period:
Friday, October 3rd - Friday, October 10th

By the end of the year his role had changed a fair bit as we fed Nas, Garcia, Hall etc through the midfield.

He's gone, no need to kick him on the way out. He was a great servant and was a light through some dark years.

If anything his career as captain under Lyon was marked down due to him being a happy nice guy without a killer instinct. Maybe not Lyon's ideal candidate but never a bad thing to be a good bloke.
Great post.

We have traded heavily into 2027. What's the plan the picks probably won't help with NGA bids.

We have quite a few out of contract in 2027, so maybe we hit the draft.

Another option is we try to use those picks to upgrade late picks.

I.e. live trade pick 50 and 52 for pick 45.

FUTURE PICKS

This thread is for the 2027 Draft Order.

How does Marshall feel about all this? Wanted to be traded, but never really heard anything from Ro himself!

Cats, were willing to offer the Blues 3, 1st rounders for Curnow. There need for a big forward certainly wasn't anywhere near there need for a key ruckmen! But they offer up the rubbish they did. Geelong has got to a stage now where what we want we get, and you except it! Not anymore.

It is important for the club to get behind Ro, and say we want you and your a massive part of this. He may be dirty on the Cats, for not offering up more, but he may be dirty on us for not taking the Cats offer! Either way, Dekoning/ Marshall has Gawn/ Jackson vibes! And we seen where that went!

Given its 6 In (4 recruits + 2 draftees) and 6 out (web, Steele, Heath, McLennan, Boyd, Zlug)

Do Jones, Byrnes and Arie survive?

If so, it’s hard to believe we’re happy to let Steele go and even some reports help pay his wage ??! Wtf and keep Byrnes and Jones..?

I know they’d both be on low wages but combined they’d be closing to Steeles wage so feel like it’s much for muchness

Would love to know as much detail on steeles new contract at Melb.

I’m locked in a heated battle defending our Salary Cap shenanigans in a group chat so any info would be appreciated 😂

B+ 😂… jeez Jimmy’s a tough marker
Fox Footy gave us an A.

Except for that salty bitch Jon Ralph who was dribbling about nobody trusting Gubby Allan ever again.

You should have seen the contemptuous look on Leigh Montagna’s face when listening to Ralph.

Big footy trade period gradings
tony74 - A++ 100% record, every call correct
Joffaboy - A + bulldogs still an unserious club, as shown by their 175cm key defender pickup
SainterinSydney - A+ pure optimism around NAS, keeping spirits up
Tony mentioned we had something else cooking after the Aleer thing.. downgraded to an A+

Exactly, wanting to trade in Merrett and not wanting to lose CMac as well as Marshall/Curnow but not wanting to lose SDK is just old school thinking and really, heads should roll at those two clubs.

You don't add in a whole year of picks to be traded, whilst courting contracted guns, and not expect to give up more than previous years in trades.

Massive fumble, massive massive fumble.
Geelong can be excused because they are a bunch of country bumpkins and Western are probably just meth heads high on bevo's peyote farts, but what is Hawthorn's excuse?

Just pure arrogance from all three really to think they can seduce the player and not the holding club. Arrogance to believe they could turn the player's head and get him to somehow force a trade.

Love wins.

Its been a great trade period ❤️

Really proud of the way the club handled this trade period.
Feel that we have been, fair, honest & strong-willed.
Alot of us here were always abit bewildered by the Aleer deal.
When Jsos was signed, it became near dysfunctional.
The club knew Gws had an offer for him.
So, l feel it was fair enough for us to bail out of it.
A little surprised that we didn't take the late F1 for Marshall
but estatic in keeping him.
Don't improve the Geelong fc.
Steele is a tough pill to swallow but he would of been competing with Macrae
for a best 23 spot in all reality.
So, happy for him to have a more useful role with the Dees.
Pick 7 seems high for Flanders but in a weaker draft it will more than likely turn out in our favour.
And he will fit straight in.
Flyin Ryan will excite the fans at times & will fit into the culture well at the club.
Tdk hopefully will give us hit-outs to advantage more often than we've had since Ryder.
Hopefully Jsos gives us many FS's, in the now Saints Silvagni Dynasty.
GO YOU SAINTS!!!

Thanks, mate. As long as I kept one person's spirits up in here, mission accomplished. Being physically at that Melbourne game was borderline a religious moment as you could feel it was a turning point for the club. I only saw one game live in Melbourne this year--and it was that one! I just knew--coupled with all the data we had about Nas and Tony's reports--that there was no way he would leave.

I'd also like to acknowledge stavro#4 for keeping us informed at all times with twitter and media updates without which I would have had no clue what the hell was going on!

How lovely to have depth

The relationship between the National Draft and Rookie Draft and Primary List and Rookie List means its not a straight 6 in / 6 out scenario.

We had to trade Steele, and now delist all of Jones, Byrnes, and Schoenmaker to take the minimum 3 picks to the ND.

Webster, Cordy, Heath, Steele the only players moving off the Primary List, covering our 4 traded in players, therefore the 3 delistings are needed to have 3 picks at the draft.

McLennan and Boyd were cut from the rookie list, and with Caminiti needing to be upgraded, means we will have a minimum 3 picks at the rookie draft.

Given how poor of a draft it is we might leave a spot open for midseason 2026. I could also see us rookieing Schoenmaker for the exact same reason.

Blah blah blah list spots.
