Depends on the contract amount and whether other clubs would be willing to match that amount or offer more (Aka West Coast). Also depends on if Cal actually wants to live in Adelaide as well.

There is a bit of unknown to all of this. I do find it interesting that we wouldn't take F2 & F3 for a player if we 100% knew he was never going to stay. If there's a world in which we truly believe we can keep him, then it makes a bit more sense, even if it doesn't work.
Yeah, it seems like Ah Chee loses some control now. Theoretically, he could end up anywhere, couldn't he? In terms of contract, I am thinking that most of the 14 teams before Adelaide will have cap space for Ah Chee. Sydney, no. But Eagles, Port, and a number of Melbourne clubs would surely jump at Ah Chee if the crows can afford him?

See could retain Cal on a 5 year deal with the view he can try again next year if he wants but with the security of a long term contract still.

How dumb of Adelaide. They are assuming he makes it to them in the PSD but it’s no guarantee. Other desperate teams will 100% be keen on him now and won’t mind the price the to bring in such a high calibre and versatile player.

What on earth are the Crows playing at ?

Who'd want to go there then ?

They can get quality south australian talent through the PSD like Jackson Hately.

Interestingly I note that NWM re-signed and didn't end up at the Crom. There's no truth at all of course in Caro's suggestion as to why NWM wouldn't be interested in the Crom, that was flatly denied by his manager.

If there was ANY truth to NWM not wanting to go there because of Tex I'm sure he would have been super happy to bear the brunt of racist abuse from Crom fans!

99.99% chance he gets to the Crows.

No club will pick up Ah Chee if he wants to go to the Crows. They will probably try and convince him to come to them, but unless they do then he is going to the Crows.

adelaide and hawthorn have had hilarious trade periods

hawks made a pass at merrett, allen and petracca and are going to end up with none despite how smug smitch acted all year with his blasé attitude towards tapping up opposition players.

adelaide tried to get petracca, oliver, and ah chee and will similarly end up with nothing to show for it.

at least hawthorn had the excuse of trying to deal with the vengeful spirit of adrian dodoro when making an offer for merrett. adelaide is just an idiot factory.

Excuse me, the Crom recruited 'Finnbar Maley.'

Ah Chee's manager just said Cal is determined to go to adelaide and he will walk through the PSD. If he does that, then that's a pretty shitty thing for him to do. Liam Baker refused to walk through the PSD last year because he wanted Richmond to get a fair deal, yet Ah Chee seems like he won't even do the same.

I'm content.

We may lose Cal for nothing. But we weren't getting offered much more than nothing anyways.

Clearly our draft & list management team were sufficiently happy with our draft hand as it stood to make a firm stance on the value we expect in a trade.

Clubs that are prepared to offer five year big dollar contracts to entice a player yet expect to give nothing but steak knives in a trade can go take a walk.

Well, what else can he do if he wants to play for Adelaide at this point? Trade period is over.

Why? It’s not Ah Chee’s fault (or problem). He hadn’t gone behind our backs.

Lions/Crows couldn’t get the deal done. He’ll walk straight to them in the PSD.

He won’t sign on for a year and “try again”. Thats fantasy. Why would he turn down a 5 year deal?

And no other club will poach him.

We move on.

The notion that Cal wasn’t worth the same as Rohan Marshall blows my mind. How many positions can either bloke play? How many years left? What proven quality in big games and big moments? Crows tried to hold us over a barrel during the Charlie Cameron negotiation. Always had a soft spot for them, but they can fro now. Arrogant flogs

thats not how it works, they could put 3mill over 2 years you think west coast is going to do that? no
Is it still that flexible? Any price with renegotiation? I thought that was semi shutdown

If it is then yeah I guess the crows say we are paying you 5x750k, put a price of 2x3.5 and we will just do a deal after

If it is still open it's a weird one though. Why wouldn't every club do it? Doesn't seem to happen much. Last one Jack Martin?

Exactly. We made the decision to stick to our guns. Back the people that have put us to where we are now.
