Pay Nas

Lock him in for 10. Not 2.

I'll be really disappointed if we only sign him for 2 or 4 years. Come on Saints.... get it done.

We should get Tex Wanganeen into our VFL side. Channel 7 had a story on them growing up together. He's playing at Port Melbourne. Having a close family member close by might make him less homesick.

We should throw the bank at Jase Burgoyne. The are beat mates apparently and he still hasn’t signed with port. Ironically I think he was one of our nga’s

Front load first part of TDK's "massive" contract with excess salary cap funding, pay the balance of TDK's salary with Marshall's current contract, trade Marshall and take whatever you get for Marshall and our 2026 1st rounder and throw it at whatever A grader mid you reckon you can shake loose.

It's not like we haven't been trying - ultimately the problem is we haven't found the right combination to pry someone out. Hardest part is convincing a player to join you, do that and everything else falls into place.

You literally don't have to use it. TDK will still be eating up a large amount of cap in 8 years. Carlton have been hamstrung by some of their ridiculous contracts to guys like McGovern and Williams. Also had to let players like Kennedy and Owies walk out to save money.
You literally do have to use it. Can't remember how long you cam have it but if not used it is taken off you.
TDK will be front ended and in 8 years 1.4 mill or less will not be as much as now.
We spent years overpaying spuds like Dunstan, Newnes and Billings, you want to go back to that.
Also nobody knows our SC especially going forward so we are all talking from absolute ignorance on its structure.
So will ask you, and disregarding NAZ as we all agree he should be signed before anyone is picked up as FA, who do we use the money on if we are going to lose it?
To me I would take TDK, get whatever I could for Marshall, continue to develop Heath and Dodson, pick up Allir c and use the draft capital from Marshall for a mid that can kick, probably not Bergman because he can't.
Just anyone in the mids who can consistently hit a target.

So you won't answer three times.
We lose the extra cap.if we don't use it, so who do we use it on without using draft capital?
Fourth time I have asked. All you have is criticism without solution.
You can't answer the question because there is no other FA that is worth spending it on. So it is getting more and more obvious your spamming of the forum is to troll and nothing else.
The AFL were talking about introducing pick purchasing with cap. That would be handy if they brought it in this year and would make sense if a team has too much cap instead of loosing it, to sell it for draft picks.

And they aren’t any closer and we don’t exactly know yet what that even looks like. But it’s likely a late pick - which I rate TDK higher than picks 14-18

Now that is something I forgot about.

There is one solution if we didn't want to take an FA.
Wonder if that is still happening.
Basically a team can buy SC by sacrificing their dp. Could still end up a rort, imagine Geelong getting hold of that rort?

They should definitely introduce this. At least it gives teams lower on the ladder that can't attract FA's to try and rebuild through the draft quicker and not loose Cap for nothing.
They should also introduce 2+ year draft trading, more flexibility to make it easier to rebuild through the draft.
Check out the NBA. They rebuild quicker with OKC and the Pacers. More flexibility.

Yes, you lose part of nothing. We paid spuds because we only had spuds. A good list manager can pay more front loading in a contract and use it that way. Spending 10% of your cap on one B grader seems fine now but when Nas has his next more expensive contract or an elite 25 year old Phillipou needs a pay rise that 8 year contract is still biting hard.

They need to be very very confident that he's only about 50% developed and has a lot more to come.

There was a report a couple months ago that Jase was set to re-sign. Not sure whats happened there

The more I watch Marshall ruck, the more I get comfortable with TDK's ridiculous salary. If there was a stat for hitouts to disadvantage, Marshall would be elite. So many times every game he taps it straight to the opposition.
Today Gawn had 9 hitouts to advantage, Marshall had 7, Owens had 1.

Gawn better around the ground.

If we failed to attract new players and i was list manager, i'd be paying what we need to keep Nas, then i'd be loading up the likes of Webster, Wood, Steele, maybe even Jones, not because they deserve it, but because we know it will free up again in a short time.

If we have an excess of salary cap, we bring contract payments forward until we hit the maximum amount that we vacant push into the following year.

I'd love TDK, I'd also love to get some currency from Marshall. I am however very wary of the affect that spending a tenth of a yearly salary cap (on one very good player) would have on the rest of the list.

TDK is a very good player, but he's not top 5 in the AFL.

Essendon's 'warchest' went on McKay, Gresham, Durrsma and Goldstein. Shows just because you can spend money, doesn't mean you should if it's on - the wrong one.

Nas is surely gone. When have we ever had an in-demand player unsigned this late in the year sign on? I can't remember it happening.

If we don't get an absolute king's ransom for him it will be a total club killer. We have to play hard ball for once instead of getting walked all over like normal.

Last year showed how effective being the squeaky wheel was with the compo pick.

Talking about Ro as if trading him the club would implode.

Plugger left and we play in a GF 2 years later.

No single player is bigger then the club, I'd trade roo, Lenny etc if it meant we win a GF.

Same with Nas, I hope he stays obviously but if he chooses to leave we best maximise our returns and keep bringing in quality high end picks.
NAS leaving and quality high end picks coming in doesn't help our rebuild at this point.
He needs to be in RWB for his next contract,he is a star pay him what he wants

Sadly I agree. Hopefully we can extract a kings ransom from either of the adelaide clubs but the worry is that they don't have a lot of assets in terms of picks.

Why would Nas sign when his value is rising each week?

I still think he signs a short term two year deal. Based on no knowledge. I also think j based on what the club is saying negotiations are happening.
