First round
Xerri or NAS

Not sure where you got that from?

SAINTS SAY NO TO XERRI PRICE

ST KILDA has baulked at North Melbourne's initial asking price for contracted ruckman Tristan Xerri, after the Kangaroos requested a future second-round selection in return for the youngster.

So Xerri or James Van Es?

Amazing.

Care to tell me where I said they were equal?

Please enlighten me.

Last I checked my comment was on the fact that if rumours were to be believed we get TDK in, Marshall is off to the Cats and the Dee's are sniffing around Heath.

That leaves Boyd, Dodson and Keeler as our back ups if TDK were to get an injury.
Not sure about you but I feel that is a recipe for failure.

Thus is goes to the argument about whether the 1.7 on the ruck is a good idea. Rather than trying to pick up one that is AFL standard but not necessarily a world beater.

Personally I believe Dodson will go past Heath quite soon.

Boyd I suspect will be delisted. Certainly is not AFL standard. For 2026 Heath would remain in front of him, but no TDK or Marshall.

And yes Keeler has a future at AFL Level, but not as a No1 ruck. And the Club is not grooming him as such.

Remains to be seen how many No1 Ruck Candidates (including back up ruck, but not the chop out rucks like Keeler or Owens) the Club will want in 2026. Will it be 3 as this year, or 4 at most. If 3, Heath may not be with us if Marshall was not traded as some (not I) are theorising on.

See im looking at it from the perspective that we are already light on for real ruck depth. Not even speaking of the No 1 spot. When you look at a majority of clubs they have someone who can come in an compete to a level that at least gives a decent contest.
We dont have that.
But we arent fixing the issue by getting TDK. And if the rumours persist, then we could end up even worse as we will lose a number of those ruck positions come the end of the year.

So I think we are agreeing that Heath is back up depth. Marshall an TDK are No1 rucks.

Also with Dodson still being very young that perhaps the Club will run with 4 rucks in 2026. Then again maybe not.

Heath still has time to improve as is only 22. As long as Heath stays in he will get to mount his case for retention over the next few weeks.

If Dodson repeats his form of Sunday, then I strongly suspect the Club will prioritise his development over Heath's. though they may be wary for now in overtaxing Dodson.

Yes.

My concern is that in chasing TDK we end up losing Marshall so we don't actually help the depth situation and its made even worse if Heath has been chased by Melbourne.

We're not chasing TDK just to add "depth". Its a direct upgrade on Marshall given our list profile

I wouldn't read into the Melbourne rumours too much. As I said before, its probably just interest for if Heath continued to rot away in the VFL and they thought they could pick him up as a DFA

Now that he's debuted and will probably get a block of games, his morale will increase and it'll cost the Dees more than what they'd be willing to cough up to prize him out

Is the reason we haven't signed Windy, Hall and Keeler yet because we don't know how much we have available? We have a large warchest but if 1.7 is taken by TDK , an extra 600 K to keep NWM and may have to keep Ro, we may have not have enough left to satisfy them all. Could TDK cost us a Windy or Hall? Money must be close you can't just spend an extra 3m a year without a serious problem.

Probably backwards or sideways at least short term but gives you a player 4 years younger.

saintbill is no troll. I don't agree with this assessment, however much of what he posts is fair enough.
You have 9 posts, are you sure you aren't the troll?
Joffaboy I can assure you that I aren't a troll - I have followed and supported the Saints for 65 years. (sadly I was only 12 years old when we won our only premiership) Just because I have only posted 9 times against your 65,000 and doesn't make me a troll. I visit this site a large number of times on a daily basis and previously used to check out Sainsational but left because I got sick of the plethora of trolls on it. What is the definition of a troll ?

He was ranked 3rd last for opposition marks against last year. In the whole comp😜

He was getting torched in one on ones all year. Perhaps his shoulder played a part, but why would you then not get on your bike and start leading?

2 contested marks a game when your whole game is based on having the ball kicked on your head doesn't really excite me. Sorry. If that is elite, then marking really is dead.

Why not judge him on his body of work and not a handful of games he played last year when he was clearly not quite right?

I get annoyed with Max's on field body language and a lack of second efforts so I've got no issue with appropriate criticism.

That's based on a lot of recency bias - TDK was almost #1 ruck in the comp at the start of the season

And even if that's true, that's fine. Next couple of years is about the core starting to gel and ideally consolidating itself in the 8. We don't need TDK at his full potential during this period. We probably contend for the flag 2028 onward when TDK is 29 with 2-4 All Australian years left before the transition to Dodson starts

Don't know, you must know as you labelled one of our better posters a troll.

One post or one million, I don't care, calling someone a troll because you don't agree with them is a form of rage baiting. That's what trolls do.
Jog on, don't care how long you claim to be a Saints supporter, make you no better or worse than anyone else here.
End on conversation with you.

Did we? At the time that was definitely overs and Marshall was playing well. Think that was more of a good move by North rather than a bad move by us.
A second rounder for someone they identified as a great prospect. Yes a complete f*** up.
Can you imagine what we could be doing with that 1.7 mill if we had Xerri?

Agricultural at best, he’s going to wind up a marked man like long was or retired due to concussion. Despite his possible demise we identified his talent then baulked at paying a little over the odds, we were all over Draper as well.
