Not to be a downer but reports on Fincher are fairly mediocre at the moment.
Aleer and TDK is a good start and hopefully we can pull in a 2nd top 20 pick but we have SFA to trade with at the moment, TBD with Marshall.
Fincher just hasn’t been given the opportunity. Playing halfback in a team that wins by 40 points isn’t going to be to crazy hot when it comes to stats. He is killing it in school footy as a mid though. He will be full time back at sandy after this weekend. Should get some mid time

He will be fine. Saints are excited by him.

I’m not really nervous or wetting the bed. If he leaves he leaves, I think it’ll be brutal on the club but we’re shit anyway so that extremely low bar isn’t exactly getting battered any more than normal.

It’s a lot more fun talking about what we might get for him than talking about what Geelong will do to us this weekend or trying hype myself up for honorable losses.

Agree if he leaves it will be ordinary, but as long as the club can get decent compensation we will all move on. If we dont get well compensated thats when the real melts will be felt right across the club.

No chance we send him to the draft.

The AFL would step in with mediation and strong arm the teams into a deal.

If Butters leaves, and doesn't come to the Saints, then I assume we get part of that package along with a player.

I don't see how we end up with multiple top 10 picks.
That my point, any threat to do that will force afl intervention.

If I comes to that then surely it will improve our position. They can’t stop us without changing the rules on the spot, that isn’t going to happen. If port can’t or won’t stump up a fair trade why wouldn’t you threaten it.

Starting to get pretty antsy myself.
If he wanted to stay, but still a little uncertain long term, then just take the two and put off the decision till next time.

tony74 seems certain he’s staying.
What could the holdup possibly be?
I can’t get the logic of Nas wanting to leave but staying for another 2 years.

It’s tough on us because port seem to lack the trade capital but at some point he’ll realise that’s not his problem. In reality they do have some players and picks which would get a deal done. It’s going to be messy if it happens though, the more parts involved the harder it becomes.

The Whitlock rumours was from a Carlton BF poster

Whitlocks identical twin brother Matt is at North, so I can understand him being homesick over in Adelaide. Jack was rated quite highly in a very strong draft year but for some reason he slid outside the first round. He is the perfect tall forward who was also more than useful in the ruck during his under 18 year. He has the potential to be a very handy player but will need time like all young talls.

I remember watching the draft on night one and he was absolutely devastated he didnt get picked up that night.

We’ve refused player requests in the past - Stuv, and by all accounts Roma last year - what’s the chance we do this here?
No good deal this year would be a very understandable reason.

Can’t see it happening in reality though.

More likely is they’ve realised that we don’t have a replacement on the list.

We can’t just keep wishing ming comes good, we need a backup plan other than playing small.
Yep.
If they didn’t think about this beforehand, and apparently they didn’t, this year would have opened their eyes for sure.
We missed our talls terribly, Max and Dougal.

To be fair you claim even St Kilda was blindsided by Battle. Unless you are in Nas's inner circle you would have no idea. I don't believe Tony or you are so until he signs I'll be nervous.
I don't care if NAZ was confirmed posting in here saying he was signing, until it is an actuality, I won't be comfortable.

Comfort of you like where you are even if you wish to leave so you aren't planning to leave because "X", it'd just be a shit situation all round. So if communication is such very easy to see "yeah just hang for 2 years and we'll say bye later" as all sides happy and split is amicable as the sides in negotiations go "so, Y is good yeah?" to land in middle.

That being said, really only seeing it as a manager doing their job and going "oi, bloke is out of contract, gimmie offers so I can pump and dump" to advocate for their client. Let the bloke play footy in the interim and just breathe.

Also remember the reporting that we offered a pick and Hunter to grab a North pick 3 before, Hunter is still with us, it's almost like you can chat with people and come to understandings and things can change as time passes.

As we have exclusively only drafted half back flankers for a decade, surely we can find one floating around the joint to replace NWM?
Ok joking, but I feel Sinclair has dropped off a bit since NWM gets all the ball. Maybe he could get back to AA form.

The year after Plugger left, Buckets kicked 90 goals. It would be hard to lose NWM for the whole range of reasons we have outlined over the months on this thread, however it is not the end of the club.
Regardless of the NAZ business. I Would be so happy to get Jack Whitlock. What I saw in the champs last year impressed me as a key forward.

They were both contracted. The last time we refused to trade an uncontacted player who wanted out, we opted for a moral victory by not accepting unders and then his new team beat us in the Grand Final the following year.

We could say no and hold Steven and Marshall to contract. Nas could always just walk and set his PSD terms at 2 mil for 1 year. A club outside of SA could take him and then have to deal with the same circus throughout next season.

I think Bergman and a future first is the best case scenario for us at this point. If Nas had a few years to go on his contract, then we could be talking about three first rounders. Wouldn't surprise me if it ends up being Berg and a F1 with our F2 going back. And at the end of the day, we'll take that over letting him walk for nothing

Bergman F1 and Whitlock and I would still be pissed as hell.

Me too. He's a generational talent and I wish we were making it impossible for him to leave by throwing all of that saved up cap space at him on a front loaded four year contract.

Matching Port's offer gives him no incentive to stay. Blowing it out of the water for four years would at least get him to FA and give us a chance to convince him to stay when we might end up half decent by the end of that contract. Or, he wants out in a year or two and Port have to cough up a king's ransom.

But...we need to use that cap space on a ruckman who is about the same as our current ruck but more expensive and a couple of years younger...

If only the issue was about how much he was getting paid.

I mean we could have sorted it months ago if it was so simple!

Agree he would the perfect young player to target if he is gettable, separate from anything that goes on with Nas.

I also wouldnt be offerring Keeler for trade as suggested by some. I think he is just starting to find his feet and is worth putting another couple of years into. Whitlock and Keeler are different players, Whitlock is a strong contested marker Keeler is more the lead up highly skilled big man. If King goes down again the future would look good if those two got going.

Good point. I kinda forgot that.

For a generational talent?
Let’s not forget that simply having NAS in the team would contribute to their moving up the ladder, leaving us with a very ordinary, more than likely not top 10 pick at a time when Tassie will be getting the cream of the crop.

So, no thanks.
SOS - be as hardassed as you want. That would be an untenable situation.
