Last thing we want to do is take the Tigers lightly and pencil it in. Put the best team we have on the park. R1 this year completely deflated us.
Remember Ratts played a bunch of kids once against Tigers and we romped them. Fresh eagerness of youth and without a long season grind is optimal for those ready. Not saying give them games but if it’s a choice between maybe Campo vs Acres, etc. manage seniors as well.

I agree in principle, however I think banking wins early in the season will be really valuable given the pressure that could mount on Voss. Of course, if there are kids who are ready then I am 100% for giving them a go.

From defence with NO run last year we now have Charleson Wilson Saad Boyd Ollie Chesser Florent Lucas Carroll Flynn Cottrell that can all play as running defenders

All of sudden we seem more mobile and have more run all over the ground
Respectively Soap, Saad is on his last legs, hope he has a better year, Boyd offers no run or rebound again same as above, Lucas is not atm even a consideration for a defensine or wing roll at senior level …

Ollie i liked his progression last year, splits between HB and wing is a lock Chesser the same although he is a natural winger who should also roll through the midfield, Carroll great upside who should progress into a best 23 defender/winger this season..

Forent will split time between defence and higher up the ground, doubt Cottrell will be entertained as a defender/although always glad to see the club try positional roles…

Wilson and Charleson are still young developing kids with great potential, but who have another level of consistent performances to string together, before replacing others…

Well said. We have such a wide supporter base and it includes a combo of realists, dreamers and in-betweeners. What makes it interesting is realists are bang on for the majority of the time but the dreamers comes good at some point and capture that moment it turns; a bit like a stopped clock being right twice a day. But when the dreamers catch it it is a thing of beauty.

We have players in the back half but right now those options lack the class of top 6 side rebounders and a supporting system to help them thrive. The dream is Ollie, Boyd, Florent, Camporeale, others turn into a Young, Ash, Whitfield, Zorko etc...The current reality is they arent close.

I 100% agree with this. Unless you need to rest a player further into the year, you field your best available team every week, especially in Round 1.

And apart from putting their best side on the ground, they need to be well prepared mentally. I hope they have invested more on that side of the game because I feel like like we have been weak in the past when it comes to facing past demons.

I believe we all need to understand we all see things differently JOT, but how I’m assessing it is, our backline is a proper 2nd KPD short particularly now that HOF is down for the year, while we have a promising group of youngsters coming through most of them are still very early in there careers…

You’re on the money that in which we don’t have atm the same quality of overall defenders, that provide the defensive all round abilities to defend lockdown rebound & attack as the better clubs can…

i dont fully agree with Soap but appreciate his optimism in the players we have, while I’m in agreement with you that our defence still is in the stage of reformation..

You're forgetting Elijah Hollands who can play a bit across half back as well ;)

I'm hoping Boyd can stay fit and slip back into a decent run of form. Very good kick obviously. I suspect he's going to struggle to get much game time unless we have injuries.

Really interested to see how Charleston develops this year.

I wonder if Cerra gets moved out of the middle - could half back be an option for him? He'd have to tidy up his disposal. Guys like him and Lord have to find at least a second position they can play.

Williams is always an option back there too.

I've said prior - I can't remember our list ever having so much depth. Every one on the list currently could easily be playing round 1 with good form through preseason plus Dean. Outside of the Irishmen.

The last time the senior team displayed any run and gun was that 12 from 13 games winning streak after finding ouselves 15th half way through the 2023 bye period.
Looked like we were let off the leash.

That team had Doc+Boyd+Gov (in form), Cottrell, Martin, Cunningham, Owies and Kemp.

It doesn't take much to transform the team. Those smarter ball users kicking the ball well inside 50 is the biggest difference.

Plus probably Cripps, Curnow, Walsh were fully fit back then.

Very true, I do remember Martin and Cunners finally getting fit enough to run onto the field.

But was our remaining list so pathetic as to deserve a 15th place ranking... or perhaps an out of date, overly contested game plan partly responsible?

I guess there will always be 2 factions here regarding our recent past failures...the list and unavoidable injuries group, and then the poor coaching standards bunch.

I think if you took the worst 8 kicks out of our team during the season and replaced them with 8 good kicks we'd have seen a heck of a different result.

Added to that - Walsh and Cripps were clearly playing hampered by injuries - Harry had his issues - and Charlie had lost interest.

And on top of all that Voss and the match committee had an absolute shocker this year.

All things combined for the horror year that was.

Richmond will be playing all their kids so why not throw ours in there and give them an early run against a bottom 4 side rather than 'lets play it safe'.. cause we don't want to take the risk that we may lose again ... Heaven forbid!
If the focus is on youth ... then give them a go .. and get some experience. Tigers play hard but they are no Lions.
I'm not so sure being afraid of bottom 4 teams is a good way to start the season...

Have it good authority Charlie stays if Voss was replaced end of this year.
If Voss is sacked mid season next year and we've lost them both? Would be the most Carlton thing ever.

Put simply, there is ALOT riding on the first 8 games in 2026.

IF Charlie Curnow stayed.

THEN our forward line remains non-functional and bottom 6 in quality.

Give me the additions of Hayward/Ainsworth/Ison to our forward line and three 1st round picks over one lazy 29 year old who the club did everything for, except wipe his backside, every single time he self injured himself.

Let’s see how the Swans will react when Charlie starts sulking it up as he has a history of it. I doubt his new club will treat him like a king like his old club did. Good riddance.

Maybe he’ll upgrade the bike to a unicycle and cruise in to game day on one of those
