If the rules change to last disposal it kinda makes rucks a bit more redundant may aswell get 800k off the books and trade Darcy and just use Voss as the back up

Why do you think rucks will be less involved? I think most boundary throw ins will continue to be there.

Don't think it's going to reduce stoppages all that much tbh. Maybe 5-6 a game.

It won't be a free kick if it's touched after the last disposal so it's only really the kicks that aren't called insufficient intent that won't be ball ups and only between the 50m arcs.

Perhaps they believe a tall without any AFL experience and a broken foot won't be noticed being picked up again in the rookie draft.

But, I agree there's players on their rookie list closer to the abyss than Knobel.
If a club wants Liam Reidy it tells me that there isn't much in the state leagues for rucks.

They've got to plan for life after Witts as well and that probably goes beyond just keeping Ned Moyle long enough.

For those two reasons keeping a ruck with a few years development is reasonably important.

from what I’ve seen from sanfl it’s a lot quicker and they just bypass the rucks a lot more because it doesn’t give them as much time to set up going down the line

Ben Ainsworth is he was available?

I don't think the last touch rule is the one to worry about. The AFL want to make it more of a jumping contest and not a wrestling contest. I don't know how they actually implement this, but it would mean the athletic rucks with leaps will be more valuable, and the goliaths like Gawn, Grundy, Darcy, Xerri who rely on their body use will become less important.

The AFL will of course backflip in a few years when rucks are going down with PCL injuries from clashing knees.

It gives the afl umpires more freedom to influence games without it being perceived as bias. No one will understand the rules for ruckman, not even the ruckman themselves.

The old rule was you could not stop a ruck reaching the ball. Once you allow this, then the jumping rucks will dominate.

You are right they will change it, I remember Matt Primus dominating the ruck, then one year they stopped the ruck blocking the other ruck from reaching the ball and he was completely lost. I guess at some point they took away this rule.

I sort of agree but there are still thow ins for the isnide 50s, spoils between the arcs. Last touch is really only for kicks right?

I don't like the rule especially with 5 on the interchange and no increase in the bench. More players will get injured but i guess more players will "rest forward"

Anyone heard anything about us going hard for Sam Walsh?

It's actually the opposite. With the last touch rule it will always be a free kick when the ball is kicked/handballed/tapped out of bounds (not up to the umpire to decide if it was sufficient intent to keep it in or not).
