Hi Skippos ! Glad to see you back!Flanders sucks. He's grossly overrated in the eyes of fans because we've seen him go to half back and rack it up (which is as much about a team game plan as him) and accumulate high numbers in the midfield or half forward pushing up to fourth midfielder roles. But let's look at the periods when Flanders actually had a midfield role. The bulk of it in 2024 came when Miller was out injured - and the way he played is the way that usually attracts brownlow & coaches votes - and yet he didn't really.
2023 R15-24 - averaged 29 disposals (11 CP), 4.8 clearances, 0.3 goals, 0.1 brownlow votes, 1.2 coaches votes in that window.
2024 - R0-2, 16-21 - averaged 31 disposals (11 CP), 5.0 clearances, 0.5 goals, 0.5 brownlow votes, 2.2 coaches votes in that window.
Despite what he did in the back end of 2023 & start of 2024, he was still moved to half back. When Touk got injured, he was moved in again, but on his return, Flanders went back to half forward. They have preferred Davies, Humphrey and Will Graham to Flanders. Touk's a bloody good wing/HFF type, yet they still keep Touk in the mids. They can't be wrong?
Because he's not a goalkicker. He's not a defensive mid. He's not an inside ball winner. He's not an explosive burst guy. He's a link up low-hurt accumulator. He's the kind of guy that you can stick in there when you're not very good and he'll hold it together for you and give you some respect. But there are always going to be better defensive mids. Better extractors. Better offensive mids. He doesn't change your team and he's not a premiership component.
But on your other point - looking at clubs who are leaking players, the one I'd love is Jy Caldwell. He's who I wanted ahead of Chayce Jones in their draft, and while he hasn't become the explosive mid we thought, he's a bloody good player and one Essendon took far too long to realise was actually good.
He's big bodied. He's still got a bit of a burst for that size. He's a lovely kick for a midfielder. He's a really solid defensive guy & he's a really good ball winner. He could do either of the roles we're looking for and IMO is the perfect piece for us.
I doubt they let him go with all the chaos happening there now, but let a man dream.
Did Welah only get a one year deal when drafted? Or 2?It takes far too long to move on list cloggers.
Now who gets the Ben Davis rookie list (one foot out of the door) treatment?
Jones, Cook and Welsh are all worthy candidates.

Love to know I’m not the only one who doesn’t rate Flanders. Not sure what the hype is.Flanders sucks. Good work Crow-eater . Needs a bit of an update and sticky at top of page I rekon. Bond re signed , Seeya to a few
There is a contract threadWhere’s that spreadsheet with the players contract status? Who posted that ? Can we get it pinned ?
My gut feel is that they're giving him time to announce his retirement on his own terms, rather than having the indignity of being delisted.Yep, list management need to save Crom from themselves and delist Smithers now
Tex I think needs to go around one more but manage him way more please ffs lol
Welsh is only a 1st year draftee, and we normally give them longer than that. Having said that, he'd certainly want to pull his finger out in 2026.It has to be Welsh, shown the least and at least the other two have AFL qualities of some kind

Murphy was predictable too, if you look past the fear people had that he'd get another deal.So far no surprises other than Murphy. All the delistings were predictable. Based on the club making several decisions so early, it really does have a feel like the club is ready to cull the last of the deadwood carried over from the rebuild years. Nothing wrong with going to the draft with 5 to 6 picks as a finalist. At some stage players who arent cutting it are a hinderance to the team.
Berry signed for 2 years? Still has a year to go?Sholl, Berry and Taylor would be the ones (at a minimum) you would be asking to explore trade options. Ideally 2 of them go. Nankervis gets one more year and is on notice this time next year if cannot find a role or show anything. Same as Cook.
IF Tex retires, I'd keep Burgess for one more year as break glass depth given how thin our KPD stocks are.

Wasn’t Burgess delisted too?I am hoping that
14 or an F1, 41, 48, Butts and a F2 turn into Petracca, Ah Chee and P

Not as of yesterday. So far the list changes announced have been Crouch (ret), Murphy (del), Schoenberg (del), Strachan (del) and Gallagher (del).Wasn’t Burgess delisted too?
Hmm, don’t know why I thought Burgess had been delisted…Not as of yesterday. So far the list changes announced have been Crouch (ret), Murphy (del), Schoenberg (del), Strachan (del) and Gallagher (del).

That's not to say that Burgess will survive, just that there has not been any formal announcement regarding his departure.
Smith or any retiree I can actually understand. If they're in our coaches' best 22 and the season is alive, by all means pick them.So we played two delistees - possibly three if Smith goes - in key games late in the year?
