I don't think we have created enough list space for that type of player even if we wanted to as I assume we will take a few live picks who are 18 year olds in the draft

Too many out of contract next year that should of been cut this year.

This year was the year for Jones - recover from the foot injury, be a proper senior player. Perform.

Unfortunately not though.

if we delist someone and put them on the roolie list, we won't have any rookie spots left

Would have been as simple as offering Stevens a Contract ......he knew he was to be delisted ....same situation as Maley

There is a salary cap. Cannot have have 30 A Graders. You need the Sholl and Jones types who you know can come in and perform a role better than an 18 year old.

At least Jones and Sholl are decent depth and had periods of looking like long term prospects. Davis never did (though a couple of people tried to convince themselves).

On the SANFL point, I have often wondered whether its better to have a stronger SANFL side that is competitive, or whether we do flick the Jones/Sholl etc of the world and strip it right back.

Does being less competitive actually hamper development or not ??

I dont believe that. We keep them because they are handy depth players. They dont care about the winning the SANFL flag. If they did then they would make guys like Matt Crouch play in finals.
