I'm really not sure how anyone can say otherwise with a straight face.
Dont often post here but it was funny to see the discussion deliberately get it's waters muddied with a trade hypothetical that had little to do with the original claim, because of course everyone would take the far younger players when assessing value ;)

LOL, you made some claims that are plain wrong and then complain I used stats from last year.

2024 of 168 general defenders

68th for kicking efficiency (5th at our club)
76th for metres gained (5th at our club)
72nd for contested possession % (7th at our club)

Doesn’t seem 2025 was much of an outlier.

Now bear in mind, we play 4 general defenders each week. And apologies, didn’t think I’d need to spell it out (although I actually did), but you’ve imagined the attacking aspect to his game or are relying on 2026 and later.

He’s a very good defender, but league wide he’s bog average for what he gives going forward. It could change, but it’s unlikely with our coaching group and the make up of the back 7. So if you want to sing his praises as a defender, I’m on board, said that in my first post. It was just that your fantasy regarding his attacking play that needs to be argued.

You are the only one here imagining things - at no point did I ever reference his attacking prowess, I will say it again:

His (rebounding) ability to slice through teams like butter has absolutely nothing to do with his metres gained numbers - it was specifically a take on his ability to quickly sum up the highest percentage option (contest or otherwise) to deliver to and do it effectively, consistently.

Which he clearly does, to anyone who has ever watched him play.

Your problem is you clearly believe there should be more run and carry and as you said “metres gained” in the team, and choose to direct that angst at guys like Nicks, Laird, Milera (who was one of our better defenders all season - how anyone still heaps shit on this bloke is beyond me, especially given what he’s had to return from repeatedly). You want to lump Max into that same boat, but Max should not even be talked about in that space while he plays the role he does for us. As long as he’s shutting down the most dangerous opposition attacker, idgaf what his metres gained are, nor should anyone else who watches us play.

You’ve gleamed one sentence from everything I wrote, formed an incorrect picture in your mind of how that should be interpreted, then used that as the pillar of your entire argument of why I am wrong, and why your ridiculous original call of him having peaked at the age of 21 is correct. I see this behaviour often; it’s a common trait of poor communicators, and narcissists.

Which is humorous to say the least, but extremely tedious.

Again, you pull up some arbitrary stats which you believe relegate him to nothing more than a nice B grade player. Are you going to look up the kicking efficiency of the League’s finest inside midfielders and quote those too? How about their clangers or turnovers, why don’t you reference those? Those arbitrary stats should relegate them to nothing more than bog average B level players by your standards, should it not?

To take a leaf out of your book and use language you’ll understand, you said it yourself - he’s a very good defender. “Very good” defenders are not nice B level players. The argument stops right there, you’ve literally admitted my view of him was correct and you’ve contradicted yourself in the same breath.

Max will be one of the best defenders of his generation, and at the age of 21 has in no way peaked, that was my argument. No stats, no BS. We’ll see who’s made the right call in another 10 years or so.

lol 1990 crow must be writing for addy under name of Brad Lloyd. Full 2 page articles in addy today re crows 2026 and doesn’t even have Max and Rachelle as b graders

He should have his pen licence revoked

He was better in 2025 than Michalanney and I'd back that to be similar again in 2026

He's not at he's prime elite level but he's still outperforming Max right now
Stewart had a terrible 2025. His stats were down 30% from his previous years - and to the eye he was MILES off it. His body isn't up to it anymore, and there has to be a REALLY good chance he looks at retire after 2026, as he's 33 years old.

Anyone saying the opposite just didn't watch him last year.

He had a far less responsible role than Max. Did he have a better year? Arguable, as he wasn't very successful in his role, and you could make the case Max was better in his.

Even if you don't think that, suggesting that what Stewart does IN THE FUTURE will be better than Max seems insane.

That seemed the easiest way to work out who you think would contribute more in the future, not the past.

LOL Jagga Smith makes the list off 0 AFL games

Maybe that strappy flog was right? 🤔

If we moving this forward 12 months then the chase for Free Agents should be in 2. Bailey obviously and Tom Sparrow who I believe would be Unrestricted Free Agent.

Brisbane should/would if Zac doesn't re-sign match & force the trade. (Especially if it is us)

Isn't the AFL's equalisation working well when a 2025 finalist can bring in 5 1st rounders and Petracca.....Not.

Edit: make that 4 1st rounders Uwland, Patterson, Murray, Addinsall all Sun's Academy, Avery Thomas with the 3rd pick in the 2nd round (Tasmania), Koby Coulson with pick 46 (Sun's Academy) and then another Sun's Academy Ben Jepson in the rookie draft.
Brought in former pick 2 Petracca and former pick 1 Jamarra Ugle-Hagan with their only serious loss Flanders and journeyman Fiorini.

If Hardwick can't win multiple flags with this list in the next 5 or 6 years he will have failed, talk about a wealth of riches

Rucks for 2027 noting Henry Smith & Alex Dodson are out of contract.

Smith at 23 should be ready to go whilst Dodson at 19 but with roadblocks of TDK & Marshall. Also this 12 months will have given us a year to workout the ruck rule interpretations and the way ahead.
Dodson would be a good pick up.

We should be looking to bring in both next off season.

Will be interesting to see how he progresses this year but I think Smith would be good for that 5th spot on the bench. He would be able to play forward and maintain structure when Thilthorpe is in the ruck/bench and able to compete in the ruck.

Dodson would be the natural handover from ROB. Hopefully sooner rather than later depending on his development. But linking in with the Smith acquisition, the ruck duties could be somewhat shared, easing the workload on a young Dodson

Nah list would be too top heavy with that many talls if we brought in two more.

Nah Tex will retire, Welsh will be delisted, Maley odds on to be delisted with his one year deal, absolutely no guarantees with T Murray. List not too top heavy with talls at all
That's a lot of projecting...

How about we see how this year goes before determining our priorities.

I doubt Maley will be delisted within a year.
