Ted questioned during the race why the team was always deferring to Oscar on strategy, in an obvious attempt to avoid responsibility if things went badly, but was immediately shut down.
Ted: "How can it possibly be Oscars call , the team have a massive amount of info and computing power to determine tyre wear and strategy"... something along those lines anyway.

Might it be possible that, like any good boss, ZB moderates his behaviour based on the employee he's dealing with. His reactions mimic Oscar's cool, calm and collected persona and seem appropriate for how the driver reacts/responds. This tin foil stuff is getting a bit out of control...

Gave Oscar a high ten when he got out of the car, which is probably an overreaction for Oscar given how he normally is.
Absolutely. I feel like I've said the same earlier in the year. You can just see Oscar's rection with his pit crew - very muted compared to probably every other driver.

On the commentary, yeah, they've got a UK bias, but Sky were effectively only doing what any sports commentator team worth their salt should do in those circumstances and trying to insert some kind of excitement into a race that was lacking any. Same with footy commentators getting excited about the prospect of a comeback win in the last quarter.

I'm afraid I don't quite get the Lando hate. He's not my favourite, but there's a quite a few who irk me far more.

The commentators spent a lot of time focusing on errors 4-6, though it took them a while to find the footage of #4. Bizarrely, they almost completely glossed over #1 and #2 - and it was these errors which proved the most costly for Lando's race.
Huh?
Ant spent a lot of time post race going over 1 and 2. He went through number 1 frame by frame.

I didn't watch the post-race. The race finished at 2am, which was bedtime for me. I watched them in the cool room, then turned the TV off. No idea what Ant said many hours later.

Croft & Brundle did mention the errors I raised during the race call itself, but errors #1 and #2 were largely glossed over - in comparison to Lando's driving blunders later in the race.

With the gap to 3rd, can’t help but wonder if the roles were reversed if the team would have said to them both to just both look after your tyres and coast to the finish line for the 1-2 finish

Absolutely they would.

They aren't going to make a decision that hurts Piastri - they will give him the choice. Lando will get told how to beat (or best chance to) Oscar.

Some interesting snippets I found overnight. Oscar now has the most wins by an Australian in an F1 season, surpassing both Jones and Brabham. Also, Oscar's granddad was there, hence the bottle signing. I found that out through a Facebook post by John Bowe of all people.

I'm on board the Oscar train. Flawless driving, right strategy call and got the overtake done when it mattered ie early on so he could control the pace, get clean air and have first call on pitting. Did it after a disappointing last race and being outqualified in this race and losing the sprint race too.

From what we've seen so far, he has the raw pace, even temperament, lap consistency and mental toughness. We all hope he can win the WDC of course, but he seems to have 'it' - the qualities needed to win a title.

With the Pro Lando stuff Sky was spouting - credit to Lando for saying several times in the post race that OP got him and did it better than he did.

Op got him and he knew it. Fair play to LH for saying it.

GO Oscar.

Lando has always given credit - and he also took the blame for Canada. And even in 2021, Max and Lewis were cordial and got sick of the drama being manufactured between them.

It's the media and commentators that tend to make it excruciating.

Max definitely whines the most but gets a pass from us because he beats up on the poms.

Alonso and Raikkonen whined a lot on radio but they were seen as 'lads' and 'characters'. It comes with being in crap cars and perhaps also not being British.

When Lewis and Lando whines on radio when they're in winning cars they are seen as annoying ungrateful out of touch moaners who everyone hates. Now Lewis is at Ferrari in a shitbox his moaning at Miami for example was perceived as humorous and meme-worthy.

Such as?

BTW, I'm not a Lando hater. Just curious.
Esteban probably the standout. Carlos is another. Max is a bit of a tool but is so damn talented. Same with Lewis.

I find it easier to forgive the guys who are young and act like the self-entitle brats that were raised to be until they get a bit older. I put Charles and George in that category. Lando too.

Did you forget to mention Lance in that category or nah?

This has been a pretty decent 24 hours!

Agree on almost all those. Would throw Lance in there. He has the underwhelming combo of both being short on talent, as well as being a dick.

I don't mind Carlos though. Good interview last week on High Performance.

Is there a more self-entitled brat than Liam Lawson, currently in F1?

Seen more of Landos mum that I did half the grid tonight

Blame the TV direction, not Lando's mum
True.

But the question needs to be asked why the fixation on Lando's mum in every second crowd shot when she was not the only parent there? Oscar's parents were there too but were rarely shown in the coverage.

Reckon some parents, via their sons, politely request NOT to be the centre of attention during the race coverage and some don't. And the TV director happily obliges. A bit like the way some high profile celebrities turn up as team guests at various races and are never seen on footage, whereas others are seen constantly - reckon that has to be at the request of the individuals.

Just my theory of course.
