I was actually embarrassed to be there. Our skills, lack of hardness, lack of energy and dumb football were there for all to see. Giving up 5 easy goals through turnovers in the back half is inexcusable. You could see the body language of both teams change after every error. Tigers up and about. Blues pathetically submissive.

I said going into this match that our coaches would surely have evolved our game plan from bombing it long to the goal square. NO. I was wrong. So easy for Richmond to flood the area with Nankervis and others then rebound, running away from our plodders on the counter-attack.

I really liked the look of Haynes in the preseason. Felt for him Thursday night. That was as bad as it gets. Hopefully that is a one-off and he can come back and play good footy..it can't get any worse!! Anyway, not writing him off after one game.

Small forwards are a major concern.

On the positive. Jack looked solid down back. Weitering a colossus. Crippa still Crippa. Lord promising.

We need some wheels and forward options v the Hawks at The G.

Praying Charlie is ready. Fantasia would be handy. I'd even look at Will White as he can cover ground. If coaches are concerned about Haynes, bring in Carroll.

Not fair! Our ball movement in the first half was sublime! One bad half and the season is over?
Bombing haphazard kicks into your forward 50 cannot be xonsidered sublime ball movement, regardless of anything we were doing to that point.

And let's say it's an aberration half of football. The fact that this team can still put in that shocker hour of football is a horrifically concerning trait, regardless of what our best looks like.

How is it 2025 and we still have the same problem of 3+ years ago?

Thursdays game broke me, it made me realise that except for Cripps, Weiterbot and JSOS we have a team of low IQ, passenger, pussies.

Absolutely sick of the rest of the team and their conditional commitment.

I watch the Hawks and am just embarrassed by what picks we have had and how we baked a cake of shit with it.

There is something just cursed about the club. We have tried repeatedly to get the old CFC edge and ruthlessness back but instead have ended up a woke, loser club.

We don’t get rid of players that we should, we never make the hard decisions and we are never ruthless with the players.

It’s our own fault, ruthlessness breeds ruthlessness and we have forgotten how to be ruthless.

Voss can GOGF’d for all I care, he’s more prone to giving a hand job to the players than tearing strips off them for such a pathetic display.

If it was up to me I’d crucify half a dozen of them while the rest were put on notice that they would be flayed if they lose to Hawthorne.

Absolutely sick of the loser mentality and feeble weak minded pissant players we have. Except for the three mentioned earlier they are all peahearts who just show up fo4vthebpaycheck rather than the glory.

PATHETIC!

There has to be a response at the selection table.

Charlie straight back obviously.

Is Boyd ready? Surely Moir has to play.

We cannot play Haynes again. If we do the match committee themselves are the problem and should be chucked. I'd put McGovern in almost the same boat.

Fantasia will play. Does Binns get a go? Matt Carroll has to be half a chance.

Evans / Motlop / Cottrell were either horrific or poor.

I love Cooper Lord but what pos is he playing? I think you've either got to pick him or George - probably picking 2 players who can only play the one role.

I'm definitely not sure Acres deserves a game next week after that effort. I'd give Lucas another go. His disposal is rough but at least he has the excuse of being young.

Guys with terrible disposal hurt the team so much as you have no set defensive zone for a bad turnover when the whole team is trying to go on offense - and it's in those moments where you see the absolute panic.

And we've got a lot of butchers.
Don't think we can play Cooper and George in the same midfield. Cooper looked really slow on Thursday night. Was in space a lot but either got caught or had to rush his disposal. Doesn't appear to have dancing feet to find space. We need to find a better midfield mix and not play underdone players. When will we learn.

Bomb it long only works if we have high pressure small forwards , which we don't.
Time to send Williams back to half back/ wing , Ollie to small forward otherwise go and bulk up and come back when you are 10kgs heavier.
Evans and motlop back to reserves / Fantasia in until his form starts to stink
DeKoning to stretch Meek by going forward at every opportunity. Young to come in to ruck defence / Haynes sent down to reserves.
Just tweak it up as the current game plan is clearly not sustainable. Hasnt been for the past dozen games.
Young while not everyone’s favourite could’ve helped in the ruck and allowed TDK to go forward. Harry just struggled as the sole key forward and beaten at every contested mark situation. As a secondary forward leading up the ground would have helped him break away from defenders and mark on the lead.

Apart from Williams and Fantasia, our small forwards are an issue. No easy fix here. Motlop and Fogarty have obvious deficiencies so we recruit Evans and White. What’s the plan here, cross our fingers and hope one or two come good?

Haynes and McGovern had shockers. Who should be dropped and who comes in - Boyd? Doc to start game at half back?

Honestly this team is underachieving.

The list is better than what they're dishing up. Plenty of top end talent and appropriate role players, I had Carlton finishing top 6 and being potentially contenders.

Too early to tell for the flag but I'm tipping GWS or Brisbane at this stage.

I think back to Richmond 13-15 and then the '16 flop prior to '17 flag. Is Carlton able to achieve success with this list? I'd have thought so personally.

Yep. Lord wasn't our worst and doesnt deserve to be dropped on form but needs to be dropped on team balance (at least to sub). To justify picking him against team balance he needs to be playing out of his skin not just ok. Doc as the 5th mid from the start would have made alot more sense.

Can we name one player who has improved under Voss? I can name a few who have regressed.....

Has there been any change to his game plan from Day. 1?

Hawthorns ball movement from last year was going to be the benchmark for this year and instead he quadrupled down on stoppage and slow stagnant ball movement.

The bloke has all the gear and no idea. Have said it for a long time, he is our Leon Cameron and we will have wasted our window if we stick with him any longer.
Yes Cowan has improved. Kemp, Boyd, Ollie,.,.

I hear you loud and clear.
They've broken me too, my kids, my mates and just about every other Carlton person I speak to. I'm just as sad as I was Thursday night.
I rang the club early last week wanting to become a member, they said someone will call me back to organise. Nobody has called. If I was them I wouldn't bother.

Thursday night was the worst performance this century when you take into consideration who we were playing and the fact we were up 41 points by halfway through the second quarter. And this century has had more low moments than any other club.

Our players were prepared for a training run and the second the opposition put some semblance of pressure on it got too hard. Take out Cripps, Weitering and JSOS and the rest were varying level of average to embarrassing.

If we were a club with standards McGovern would not play next week, but watch him lineup for the first bounce, shirk contests, hack kick off the ground because he’s too lazy to pick it up and set a terrible example for anyone under 23 at our club.

Crap result. Everyone’s hurting. There were concerning elements to the game which have continued a worrying trend. So, some fierce course correction is needed.

But I’ve been a supporter for close to 45 years. And I’ll be doing it hopefully for many more years. One result doesn’t change that.

Stick hard and stick long with the club. Don’t waiver when things are tough. And to anyone that questions their own commitment to the club, there’s the door. Follow someone else. You’re not needed.

The supporters are the strongest part of this club by a mile. If other club had had a run like we’ve had since 2002 then they wouldn’t be around. Sadly the players and administrators take this for granted. They get to play in front of big crowds win or lose.

When our senior players play well we look ok but as soon as they drop their intensity we don’t have a core group of other players who pick up the slack.

Our list is so unbalanced.Too many 5-15 disposal players who don’t get involved enough.

Very hard to get back after this.Something not right behind closed doors.
A malaise of the soul.

He is fantastic runner. He had a quiet 3rd quarter. It’s his 3rd game
But he cant play full midfield minutes like Cripps, Walsh, Cerra and Hewett can. The team is unbalanced if all five play together, like we did with Kennedy.

Don’t get me wrong I think Lord is going to be a good player. I wish he could play a second position so we don’t have to play pea hearts like Gov, Mots and Williams.

Fact is he can’t play a second position and he isn’t more effective than any one of the 4 mentioned above so right its better for him to ply his trade in the 2s.

As bad and unexpected this loss is, the one silver lining could be the rude shock this causes in every players mind, right at the start of the season, that only 100% effort is going to lead to the dreamed of success of a flag. If the embarrassment of losing 4 points to last years wooden spooners straight up causes the spark to ignite a fierce turn around for the rest of the season, then I’ll take it. I hope that is the players response and we see a 4 quarter relentless effort against Hawks next week.

Gee whiz watching the replay Haynes spent more time on his back then on his feet.

I know he was a super player at the giants but reckon he's cooked 🍳 & lacks pace in open play.

Our skills are still very poor 😕 😔.

I'd like to see some stats on where both sides were taking their shots, and scoring shot differential from shot position for the duration of Voss's reign as coach, because I swear we miss more shots at goal from both set shot and on the run than any other team by a significant margin.

I also think they didn't miss more than we did purely by virtue of where they took a number of shots. You're not missing many from the goalsquare, and they got a number of goals from extreme close range.

There is something seriously wrong with this club.
Can’t put my finger on it but we constantly invent new ways to produce the inexplicable.
Tonight was next level.
It’s simple.

When you lose too often for too long you become a loser. They are losers. Afraid. They play scared an awful lot. The best they have played under Voss was 2 years ago when the season was cooked and they had nothing to lose. Nothing to fear. The moment expectations have gone up they fear failure again. Terrified and timid group.

They will be terrified of Hawks. And will be blown off the park.

If Nick Haynes isn’t dropped for that I won’t watch another game this year. What a complete ****ing dud. His confidence would be shot to pieces and rightfully so. Never seen a player play such a shocking pathetic game. **** off.
