I’ll be honest, I’m just happy to see xerri in the discussion alongside Gawn. Gawn the best ruck in the comp for a long time now, Xerri snapping at his heels.
Personally i don’t have an issue with either of them being the AA ruck at this stage but i doubt we’d see two rucks named at the end of the year.
Yes, there will only be one.

Kornes stated this on his radio show with Healy (SEN) about 4 weeks ago.

I know they've named 2 previously but I highly doubt it's happening this year, especially with 2 rucks who can only play first ruck.

I am intrigued as to why Coaches award seems to be considered important in assessing AA.

Coaches vote on the best 5 in any game, which means they leave 41 players from each game unassessed.

In the Bulldogs Essendon game last week Bontempelli received the same assessment as all the Essendon players.
I would defy anybody to assert that he wasn't influential in that game.

The same Coaches award year to date ranks Zach Merrett equal to Lachie Neale and ahead of Patrick Dangerfield.

I just don't see how that would stack up in assessing the best players across the season
Probably because coaches have the best understanding of what they’re trying to do to win the game, and which players are actually influencing that outcome.

They know who they’re worried about during the game, who’s making an impact, and who’s shifting momentum.

If a player isn’t among the most impactful on the ground, they won’t poll votes. This actually suites AA team quite well given it represents the top five percent of players across the league.

Not only that. The last 13 premiers....11 ranked top 3 for average coaches votes per game.

Average coaches votes per game league ranking since 2012:

5 ranked 1st
4 ranked 2nd
2 ranked 3rd

Of course teams that win have more coaches votes, but that also means they're evaluating who's had the most influence in those wins

Either way, seems like a pretty important metric to me.

But you can have 30 coaches vote from 3 very good games even if you play 7 really bad ones.

Yet you can play 10 influential games and be 6th best in those games and have no votes at all.

Only where everyone player is rated each game do you get perspective across the season.

Player rankings do that better than coaches votes, despite still being quite flawed.

Jezza was nowhere near it but has now played himself into the team with 13 goals in a fortnight.

Cameron and Smith locked into starting 18 if team was picked today. Hopefully Danger is back in a fortnight and can pick up where he left off to make the squad at least.

Surely Dempsey with his 2 goals a game from the wing are getting looked at?
Kid has been unreal.

McGovern-less WCE next week. Kicked 9 on em last year.
Fill ya boots.

Hopefully they pick genuine wingers and name him. He's been so good.

If I see Merrett, Daicos, Brayshaw, etc. named on the wing I'll be disappointed for him.
They will. Love shoehorning excess mids on a wing.
Duncan and McCluggage with 0 combined AA's is laughable.

Because people are lazy and don't want to actually conduct statistical analysis of player output in any way other than just "votes = good".
