Nice recognition of Cameron imo, arguably the best player this year but the awards will all go to the mids as usual
Completely agree. Was likely the first picked player in the side and will add to his legacy looking back on his career. That's the best way to adjudicate the AA Captain IMO.

Because of rampant Geelong bias.

Didn’t see Max Holmes in the AA team anywhere did you?

Does it not worry you that given all the problems in the world at the moment, and granted you DO seem to pay some attention to some serious ones at times, but the one you spend the most time worrying about appears to be the bias shown by an arbitrary governing body towards some guys who you have never met, who are employed to do nothing more than run around chasing a ball?

Get a life mate

Geelong had 2 players in the team. One of them won the Coleman medal and one of them won the AFLCA player of the year award. #head****ed by Geelong on show
And you had Hawkins and Cameron captain and you have players like Joel Corey and Tom Stewart getting 7 or 8 AA's and Vlastuin gets none.

Holmes is an accumulator and probably won't play well in finals.

Why are you so personally offended by those choices? AA Captain usually goes to the first picked player, Captain of the year goes to the best captain

Holmes’ last final was a prelim where he was best on ground against the eventual premier for the 65 per cent of the match he was on the field: so yeah, probably.

Two weeks earlier he was in the best 2-3 onfield in the drubbing of Port at the Adelaide Oval. So again, yeah probably.

Elliot over Bailey for mine given it's already got the fwd/mid in Pickett. I dont think many Lions fans thought he'd get in. Bailey is an absolute superstar when on though so not too aggrieved, deserves at least one nod in his career.

Feels like the Bailey call was around trying to pick a forward line you'd line up with. Elliot was probably up against Gunston for the third leading forward spot.

I do thing Bailey was lucky to get in though. Like I said earlier in the thread, I think he's taking the position Rankine would've gotten.

It's an absolute joke that Jeremy Cameron is captain. He's a selfish full forward who couldn't captain a sinking ship.
Bagging goals at Kardinia Park isn't worth a pinch of salt.
Absolute laugh out loud joke.
This home and away award has lost all credibility like the Brownlow has.
Have a look at the selectors-Andrew Dillon (administrator(Chair),) Eddie Betts, Jude Bolton, Nathan Buckley, Kane Cornes( professional bully who bullied this commitee), Abbey Holmes(TV presenter), Glen Jakovich (played 20 years ago and never coached), Laura Kane(administrator) and Matthew Pavlich.
Cornes would have told everyone what to say.

The only thing funnier than Jeremy Cameron being the AA captain, is 28 yr old Shaun Mannagh winning the AFL's best young player award

There really is nothing else that needs to be said.

The league is a joke

I thought Battle was ridiculously stiff not to be in the initial AFL.com 'make your own AA team' squad before the official one was announced.

Felt justified that he ended up making the squad. Didn't think he'd make the side, but that's mostly because it felt like the media and this forum were really pushing Worrell and Vlaustin.
I obviously watched a lot of Hawks games, but thought Josh certainly had an All Australian quality season in 2025.

I guess the argument from people will be that Worrell and Vlaustin were still better.

That make your own team had some odd inclusions/omissions, namely Dan Curtin

I heard David King ask Cornes about that this morning. He said that a big factor in who they select is recognition of a good body of work over the years, rather than based on leadership qualities.

That seems to fit pretty well with the Cameron one, and also Franklin who was captain a while ago too.

Cornes saying Battle takes the best forward... and says Vlastuin & Battle play different roles, they both play intercept roles.
the only difference is their height.

Vlastuin is better in most statistical areas, so is Worrell

“As a nine-person selection committee, yes.” it's pretty obvious that Battle was Cornes call he is such a bias fanboy.

I’m okay with the argument that Battle takes the best forward, but does that not mean he is competing with Andrews and Taylor for their spot? If you’re picking three taller defenders surely one of those spots goes to an intercept player.

I have to say I'm disappointed Jackson didn't make it (I also didn't expect him to make it) but unless they go full send with two ruckmen in the final team I don't think he does anything but make the squad each year.

Extremely proud of Clark and Serong though, three years in a row for Serong and I was worried that Clark was going to get screwed over here, but I'm glad they actually recognised him.

Clark deserved it.

I perused alot of the teams put up on this forum by punters, before the team was named.

Can't say I say that I saw many mentions of Battle, even from Hawk supporters.

Let's call it a selection against the trend.

Wouldn't have picked Battle myself but whatevs. Also don't care that Jezza is the captain. It's recognition of being a gun not being the best leader. They did the same thing with Buddy, Tom Hawkins, Rance etc. who weren't club captains.

Happy to see Bailey and McCluggage get recognised as they have been great for a while. Bailey has 15 Brownlow votes ever and that just doesn't sound right.

Starting midfield spots are well earned but the bench still looks outrageous. Be nice to be the coach of an imaginary side and just throw Rowell, Bont, Daicos, Serong into your midfield from the bench.

I wonder how many people had Gunston and Thilthorpe in their predicted sides before the season. Complete bolters and easily deserved.

Just goes to show which club you play for matters.
Should of been an AA last year

He absolutely did, he's been our best defender all year, was worried he'd suffer from the usual outcome of the AFL putting players in positions they don't play just so they could make the team, but I'm glad it didn't turn out that way.
Yep- good on him and he’s such a hard worker too. Runs all day.
