I don't think there's any way of categorically knowing this in May. Not many had us nabbing Houston this time last year, and I don't think anyone thought we'd get Membrey for absolutely nothing.

I know absolutes are your thing, but might want to settle down.
Saving money to lure Ben King, just because you can't see the path ahead doesn't mean others can't.

I'm still bitterly disappointed we are top of the ladder and didnt go full scale rebuild after last season retiring our all time greats, not going after Pez/Houston and having the youngest best 23 in the comp
True that, it's like expecting 9 list changes at the end of the year, might be the case if we didn't value the veterans.

It kills me to my core posting this, but I think they’re closer to the mark than Quicky. I’m maxing out at 7 including the MSD.
We did 8 last year (if including the MSD), which was 6... Until John Noble and Joe Richards requested trades.

Dean, Macrae, Johnson, Markov are all gone, maybe 1-2 retirements already gets us to 6 out. A couple of players on the move would bring is to the same figure of 8 that we had last year.

I think Dean is a 50/50 chance to be retained, depending on whether we think we can find someone better for depth in his position. His age is good for our profile and he’s in form right now.

I could see any of Sullivan, Allan, Parker, Ryan, TJ asking for a trade and I think all would be able to find at least one suitor.

If Charlie Dean isn't used when Reef is down for the year, Darcy Moore is hurt, and we're playing a team with three good tall forwards, like just happened against Adelaide, then we're not going to play him. If he's not going to play, we're going to cut him.

Wil Parker is not asking for a trade as a Cat B rookie. He'll play games this year and happily continue on with us next year.

Jakob Ryan and Lachie Sullivan can ask, but I don't think they're going to find the interest out there.

Allan might ask, but it'll depend on price.

TJ won't ask. He's in Melbourne, at the biggest club, and always knew he was a few years off being ready. Why would he want to go to another club instead of just waiting for spots in our best 22 to open up when people retire.

Hoping Dean fulfils his potential this year now that his feet issues seem to be behind him 🤞

I was so hopeful when we drafted him.

I think a few clubs would be interested in Sully. I hope we give him at least a 2 year extension, he's a very useful player who always gives 100% and slots into our side effortlessly.
I would be very sorry to lose him.

I hope we keep him also. Essendon would be a good fit for him. He's a quality depth player for us.

To be clear, I don’t expect any of these guys to want to leave on an individual basis, but they seem the most likely of the bunch and history says usually someone does ask.

They’re all good enough that I’d want to retain them and I expect all of them would have at least one other club that wouldn’t mind having them on their list, too.

Yea but players like Sullivan are easily replaced given he is an almost 28 year old depth player. Good role player when needed with injuries, I don’t think other clubs would be after him but if he plays enough games he’ll get another 1 year rookie contract.

One year would be better than nothing :)

and if plays enough then it could happen. He’s good mature depth that could be handy amongst the kids once the vets retire but we will see what happens

Which at a stretch would be 7 inclusions (including MSD) plus a holdover SSP spot. Who are the trade candidates in your mind?

FWIW I’d be surprised by two trade departures. I’m struggling beyond Allan because our list is in a spot where there are few gettable types that competitors would have interest in, IMO. I also don’t see any retirements and err towards them just not receiving contracts. I agree with the delistees.

I don’t see him leaving, but he’s exactly the type you want to lose if you don’t have a choice. You can’t keep them all and like Richards a 5’9 mid is eminently replaceable. It’d also be nice to see him get the same payday Richards got.

Yes, that's true, I would like to see him get a good pay day. I believe he is pretty good mates with the Daicos brothers and Dan although I don't suppose that means anything.

TJ is also a Collingwood supporter.
He'll get plenty of opportunities soon enough.

Richards was who immediately came to my mind to when I read that post. There’s several teams that Sully would likely get a more stable best 22 role in, I wouldn’t blame him for walking if he did get an offer like Richards did.

Won't be bringing in 9 players this year, McCarthy, McGuane and Saxena maybe a rookie and and a player from another club so 5 max.
It probably depends on when you measure it. I measure it from the mid season draft, as if they're kept they require end of year delistings. If Jen's on the money and we do take 2 at MSD, it'll be more than 5 added and more than 5 gone.

Expect 10.

Dean, Macrae, AJ, Markov there's an easy 4

A few of the older guys will retire, the odd trade request.

Why are people so keen to keep the turnover number low just to retain players who won't make it? Macrae ain't gonna make it - I rather a kid and give him a go to another season of Macrae in the VFL

On gettable, Cal said he expects Maynard will stay now on a 4 year deal.

Also expects movement on the dogs and the bont contract in the next week. As if anyone ever really thought he would leave lol

Dean seems to be going well. Not sure we’re in a position to so easily discard a key defender.
