No. The reason is in the article below. You can’t have the worst player in the league over a 6 week period (yes Reid from Rd’s 12-18 was CD’s worst ranked player league wide) wanting a $1.5m+ salary when our two most important players sit around the $1m mark and our vets are on unders. That’s a sure fire way to kick off a Richmondesque rebuild.

Strange story though. Doesn't want to go to a bottom club but wants crazy money. Is he going to get that money at anything other than a bottom club?

Reid’s party asking for 1.5 doesn’t mean they get it
You’re taking the p155, yeah? WC can and will offer that much to keep him and the likes of St Kilda or Essendon will match in a heartbeat. If he leaves that’s what he’ll get and it’ll probably be the second biggest contract in league history. To be blunt he’s not for us.

Narrow view from Harley if this is true. Going to a “top” team now doesn’t mean they wont be shit for the rest of his career. Hope he just grows some pills and sticks it out at WC to be honest. Admittedly it’s easier than the harrowing journey Ollie Henry had to endure from Melbourne to the remote backwater of Geelong

My take is he doesn’t really want to leave and will happily play the market in case the perfect opportunity pops up. Hawthorn is the one with a chance of that contending group because they apparently have cap space and Carlton’s pick plus a possibly disgruntled McKenzie.

I'm taking the piss?

You're actinng like a player has never taken unders to go to a big club/preferred club/desitnation club

For all we know, he's asking for 1.5 to deter certain clubs from going for him like Archer May putting an 18 month contract on his head to try and ensure he gets to Collingwood.

Again, negotiations are a thing that exist in life.

It’s been publicly reported by 3 separate journos that it needs to be in the ballpark of $1.5m over 10 years. That’s legitimately what it’s going to take to get him out.

You either don’t understand how this works or you’re taking the piss in a desperate way to convince yourself he can get to Collingwood. I chose the latter because you’ve been around long enough on here to know that he’s not using this as a tactic to take less at Collingwood…

Let him go to Hawthorn, it is obvious they are the club that wants him the most, and will pay massive overs for him. Geelong don't pay that sort of cash so you can rule them out too. We need to go chips on Butters, maybe not this year, but next year, assuming the Bont stays at the Dogs. That way we stay in contention every year going forward.

I don't think he'll end up at Collingwood because we don't have anything to give West Coast

I'm strictly talking about the money side of it

Harley looks born to be a Hokball flog

If you add up all the “benefits” of playing at Geelong, it might get close.

Silvagni would be a good get, broke out as a defender this year. Basically is what we hope Reef will be.
Need to keep Howe, very important player
I understand the tendency to keep our veterans playing longer. However, they can't play forever, and as we've seen this year the need to constantly rest them is going to hurt us in the long run. Also, we see a drop in their performances going deeper into the year. Also, we need to strategically phase out their retirements and allow the younger players to get experience and grow. If we don't we will end up in a situation around 2027/28 where a heap of them retire and we have a big void to fill. So, I'm not averse to see one of Howe or Sidey hang up their boots this year. No doubt they've been great players for us but nothing can last forever

$1.8m on them? Ralphy must have written this because I’m sure it was reported only a couple of months ago we weren’t paying either of them the $900k that was being bandied about last year.

Edit: yep, just saw it was Ralphy. Saying that Cameron “clearly deserves” $900k too. He’s the Oprah Winfrey of $900k salaries to pies players.

I have some serious concerns bringing Silvagni to the Pies…..

……. Generational filth, could they get him clean enough to share our change rooms
He seems a good player with a nice attitude and has been playing well when not injured. I like the idea of him playing for us despite the family name.

If Dermy can learn to cheer for the Bombers, I think we can support a Silvagni.

Yeah, but if it's one of Sidebottom or Howe being phased out - it's Sidebottom. Howe is one of our most important players still.

A lot will depend on whether Voss is still at the club. I have it from a good friend of one of the Silvagni sisters that Jack does not have a particularly high opinion of Voss and that the family has become disassociated from the club.

Jack seems like a smart bloke based on this assessment. Welcome aboard Jack, Jo and grumpy Steve. A few sherbets with the Marvel in a corporate box and SOS will be smiling in no time

He works for St Kilda.
Enough reason to be grumpy at just this.

I reckon we should have a go at Jacob Blight from the Tigers. He’s un contracted at the end of year and would fit into our back structure and be a better player.
Add Silvani as a UFA to strengthen up our back 7/8. Wouldn’t cost us much.

I really like Blight
