I think the players can afford that sort of thing themselves with what they get paid.

If we can argue that massage and physio is a necessary part of the job (and thus players don’t need to pay out of pocket), then why couldn’t specialised meal plans and food preparation fall under that too?

They can’t play well without the right body and the right fuel.

I was sipping my lunch smoothie and pondering something…

The salary cap is obviously a limiter in managing a list and we know it’s fairly inflexible. Every club is moreorless paying their roster the same amount of money.

Then we have clubs like Geelong (and probably other clubs) giving their players non-cash financial aid.

I wonder what other strategies clubs have to garner an advantage over their rivals?

I was thinking about the fact that we can’t really pay players more past a point, but we can have them ‘work’ less. Maybe it was part of Nick’s contract that he got a longer pre-season? Maybe Mihochek has an RDO this week? Maybe some players are given ‘days off’ to work from home every so often - even if it amounted to a 5-day work week over the year?

Is the club allowed to provide other services which essentially buffer player salaries? Childcare? Provision of food? Buy the players appliances like TVs, laptops, phones and call it a necessary piece of work equipment?

Player brand management. If a club can grow a player’s brand then perhaps they can sign for less so less goes to the cap?

They just don't have a spot for him in defence. I think their salary cap is fairly full also. There's a bit of bargaining power there for us

If it were the top tier of compensation, it would be immediately after the pick your ladder position would’ve given you. Doesn’t matter what picks you actually hold.

If you finish 18th and get the compo, but traded your first couple rounds of picks, you’ll still get Pick #2.

Tonight’s game has done nothing but strengthen my opinion that we should be neck deep in to bringing Richards in as a free agent. His first half in particular was stellar, going head to head with Nick.

Richards was impressive tonight. 5 clearances, with 4 from the centre.

LDU would still be my preference, as I think he has a better inside/outside skillset than Richards. Depending on price though, Richards may be a better acquisition if we're looking to bolster other areas of the field.

We have no one besides Daicos with Richards’ speed who can play mid. Would be an excellent acquisition, for sure.

It's a shame we couldn't manage any sort of trade when Richards was a bit on the outer at the Dogs some years back.

Who knows..........maybe he's determined to stay at the Dogs , but we certainly should be testing the waters and putting something serious in front of him at the end of the year. Time to come home

It strengthened mine that we need to urgently find another KPD… I’m not sure whether it’s Reef, but damn it would have been good to at least find out and the poor bugger deserved to shoot his shot in 2025. With Aleer on the outer it has to be him.

McInnes, AJ and possibly Titch, should he not have any other setbacks....

This is what Geelong does.
The players get a lot more autonomy, do their own vision sourcing, set more of their own hours, Scott lets them have more self determination.
I think it works because the only other thing to do in Geelong is hang out at Jezzas farm.

Have also been told by a club official that they expect to find nothing untoward in Geelongs salary cap investigations.
