I literally just gave you an example.

An unlike Petracca, Jack Bowes, has not already earnt $10m+ in his career.
1. Don't use literally. Everything written is literal.

2. You did not provide an example with any foundation - the deal that Bowes did would undoubtedly ended up with him receiving far more total dollars over the four years than what he was contracted for over two. It makes no sense just to hand out two years of free labour.

Your a dropkick mate.

Nonetheless, your arguing semantics, whether Petracca agrees to spread his current 4-year $4.8m contract over 5 years, or whether we need to up it to $5.1m over 5 years, the same point still applies.

Tsatas is the very much the wrong target as he is not even an upgrade on Long or Macrae.

If you’re bringing someone in they need kicking skills and/or pace.
Yep same goes for Hobbs who we were interested in previously, he’s a horrid footballer, can find it but his decision making is abysmal.

Name calling is so hurtful. I think your capology via spreadsheet is super cute.

There's some young talent at St Kilda that should be gettable over the next couple of years.
With so much of their cap tied to 2 players, I think we should be monitoring Phillipou. The kid has alot of talent, and I get the impression he loves the big stage.

As I have said previously, the demographic of our list and our lack of currency, probably means we need to have a balance of competing while refreshing the list.

In this case, I think the best way to do this would be to get Silvagni for Free, Petracca (but try and take his wage and spread it over an extra year to save a 1st round draft pick) and then someone like a Flanders (or another zippy forward flanker/winger).

If we manage this carefully, together with some retirements and smart recruiting, I think we can carefully bring down the age demographic of the list (see starting 23 outside of forward line), while competing and still bringing through some younger players.

In this example, I have assumed that Bobby Hill remains, although if he does leave, it probably opens the door for a player like Butters or makes a Petracca deal much easier.

After this year, I think one thing is clear for us to remain competitive. We need a consistent, high-level second midfielder to support N.Daicos. If we can't achieve this in the offseason, then I think 2026 will just be a middling year.

Also, I am very bullish on West and think he will take the spot of on of the MMM's by end of 2026. He just has too many weapons to not be a minimum 35-40 goal kicker.

Great post and analysis. Thank you! It provides hope, although the retention of our MMM tall forward combo is a worry. Getting Petracca would be an amazing coup. It will be incredible if he comes out and nominates us. (But I won't get my hopes up too high!)

I'm not sure about Petracca.
Just watching him play, I doubt I've seen any player more selfish.
He seems to whinge alot when his teammate doesn't pass to him (when he is in a worse position). I mean, one of the Melbourne kids kicked a goal last round, and he was still complaining why the kid didn't pass it to him!

His disposal is and always has been very ordinary. He may be a bull fighting for the ball, but he just seems to make the wrong decisions when he has the ball, and boots it forward to no-one.

Silvagni should be our 1st priority, as we desperately need to fill the backline position he excelled at this year.

I'd then be looking at what's on offer for Hill. I doubt we'll see him in the black and white again.

If Butters is available then we keep all available picks, especially if Bobby leaves.
Petracca I believe is worth a second rounder, that’s if we even go for him, seems to have lost that burst speed but I have heard we are still very keen.
Out of everyone whispered to be leaving Butters is the one you’d want.
Absolute star.

100% agree, just feel as though we will be back in the pack in the chase with Geelong, Bulldogs and Hawthorn all over him.

Wilmont,lohmann,morris weren’t academy picks.
Andrews, Hipwood, Payne, Coleman, Fletcher (qualified as F/S and an academy player anyway), Marshall.

Let’s not pretend Brisbane haven’t been kissed on the dick with their academy. Almost as much as Sydney, and they’re both getting Father son picks in too.

We should offer no more than they offered us for Grundy

They gave us Pick 27

So a pick in the 20s is all they should be getting
And paying a 3rd of his salary.

Apparently got 8 first rounders coming in the next 3 years as well.

They were missing 5 or so first choice players last night but you wouldn't even know
So why aren’t other clubs realising this and picking them off after their first contract with offers of playing time?

Seems like the academies are spitting out more and more 1st rounders every year, think backlash will hit boiling point in the next few years, when majority of squads of the 4 northern teams is made up of 60% to 70% local first rounders.
