I'd say he is just frustrated that the dees aren't where he wants them to be. Reminds me of cripps over the years. If you arent frustrated, then it doesn't mean much to you to make your team better.
they'll get on the winners list soon. Maybe next week v essendon.
I think there’s far more to it than that tbh.

maybe they'll try to move elsewhere though I think its very hard to judge from the outside whats going on behind closed doors -- they seem to be fixing their culture. Just havent gotten the wins yet, but for us.. its not possible.
Just because he is frustrated they havent gotten the wins on the board yet. At least he cares.
I can virtually guarantee you that while Simon Goodwin remains at that club, its culture will not be fixed.

As for the possibility or otherwise of getting him - I didn't think getting Houston was possible. The year is young, a lot can happen between now and trade period.

Maybe. Its hard to say whats going on. Maybe its just because he cares so much he wants them as a group to do better.
Or maybe he’s frustrated that he’s stuck at a club that cared very little for his wellbeing, has major internal issues, and has started to fall apart on-field because of those issues which includes the behaviour and professionalism of certain players and the coach.

I'd suggest the longer Cox is out of the side, he'll see his time is done. Would he stay to be depth? May depend on the development of Steene and Smit.
He doesn’t strike me as having the ego to quit all together if not playing in the firsts. If he’s happy as depth and getting the odd few games / being insurance to Cameron going down I’d hang on to him until Steele and Smit are AFL ready.

At least for Houston we had 2 players, a first and 2nd round pick to trade. Those picks we need for the draft, which we will need plenty of given our potential prospects. Plus I doubt its what we would be giving up for an almost 30 year old. We currrently dont have enough points for mcguane atm, less alone potentially 3.

I can’t see Pendles hanging up the boots while playing so well.

Being a big basketball fan he’d be looking at LeBron still going around at 40, plus our admin has the ‘no upper limits’ policy for age, so no one will try to push him out while he’s clearly best 22.

Will be a really interesting watch as to just how long he can go on for.

Equally with Cox as long as he’s serviceable on field and good depth no real need to push him into retirement until a better option presents. As you say, plenty of fat to trim elsewhere on the list.
I agree with you. I think our veterans are still quality and we have a really strong group. The one potential exploitable weakness is pace through the midfield. If the season plays out that that weakness is something we can't mitigate against, we'll have to make personnel changes around the oldies. Fair chance we hold up though and they all go around again.

There could be players currently on our list who want to be traded that give us currency. We had no idea last year Noble wanted to be traded or was even having the Suns enquire until after R24. Richards wasn't being spoken about as a trade option until halfway through the season.

I still think if Leppitsch and O'Bree came to McRae and said "Petracca wants to get to us, but it may have an impact on us banking points for the draft," McRae would want Petracca.

Agree with the pace around the midfield. It’s why I’m big on finding a spot for Allan asap to start pumping games into him. Also pushing Hill higher upfield and finding ways to inject McReery into the game more, possibly as a tagger.

Fortunately I think we’ve got the speed on the list to remedy the situation if it does become an issue.

Our on-ball vets in Pendles and Sidey are smart enough to be shuffled elsewhere if pace in the middle becomes an issue.

I’ve already mentally moved beyond Mitchell, but he is one that can’t be hidden elsewhere and may have less longevity than the others as a result.

Personally I think it looks like he hates it there.

Looks like a bloke who feels stuck at a place where he nearly died, club showed no care for him & now most of his team mates look like they don't care & are taking the piss.

They've been woeful.

The whole preaching of love they've been doing is some of the fakest crap I have ever seen. Footy clubs are great at confected narratives but that takes the cake I reckon.

Agree. It's embarrassing hearing Goodwin go on about it.

too late. Thats passed, so he'll have to stay and keep making dees better.
We often talk about clubs over committing by signing players to long-term contracts
I think Trac are is realising that it can also limit future opportunities for players as well.

**** Petracca. Don't want another 30yo who would cost the earth. Let's go all in for Rowell. Daicos and Rowell in the midfield together would make us a powerhouse. Petracca seems a bit sooky to me.
Thing is, maybe he’s the only one who’s actually gettable. The others might all re-sign. Would you look at him then?

Personally I’m not sure as we’d love to maximise our list’s chances at a flag and Petracca would help with that. Anything more than one 1st round pick would feel like selling the farm at this point and we are already looking like struggling to have enough points for McGuane, let alone Lonie, McCarthy and any others next year.

The asking price would have to be beneficial to us. Melbourne won't let him go cheaply because he's contracted. If we were able to get him this year, it would be different because we're all in for this year. Let him go to a club like St Kilda. With our age demographic, we'd be better targeting someone younger

What if it were say:

Give:
2026 R1, 2027 R1

Get:
Petracca, 2025 R2, 2025 R3, 2026 R3

(Assuming McGuane projects as an R1 and the AFL let’s us do this as a result).

I said this yesterday and you said “let them worry about it” lol

I know that Trav was advised against it from his management at the time.

Let’s just hope the situation sours so much that we get him for eff all, a la Mitchell
