THe Houston one was a freak stars aligning situation - this one - just can't see how it'll happen.
With mcguane this year and a likely need to dip into 2026 for points, can’t see any way we can trade for someone of his quality. Teens pick won’t cut it. Caveat to this is if someone leaves.. but I’d hope not.

FA are our only option IMO

We’ll be trading our futures

We will need next years for McGuane potentially. Which leaves 2027 first. Just can’t see it. But stranger things have happened I guess
We can always trade in points for McGuane.
are we able to dip into second rounders for points? Or does it have to be a first rounder if he gets bid on in the first round?

If you trade future 2nd or third etc if you can't trade your first (unless you get one a Future back). If you trade your 1st, you need a complete set of F2, 3, 4.
I hope I'm saying this right, and not getting it confused.

But long way to go. We'll see what happens, Coates league starts next week, so it'll be an interesting watch to see how high he elevates himself.

Lets hope Lonie suddenly doesn't have a breakout year out of nowhere lol

Price doesn’t scare you? He’ll be a $1.2m pa proposition given Perryman’s in the $800-900k range.
I like Perryman but that’s considerable overs we are paying. I’m not sure Richard’s on anywhere near that coin should be a priority either. He hasn’t earned that sort of payday. Not even close.

And it's a club that only cares about points - not picks. So it's going to need a player shifted.

I’m hoping it doesn’t work exactly like that ie Perryman had the Giants very keen for him to stay and Port coming hard with plenty of cap space. Depends on who is chasing Ed and if he’s keen on them or not.

I rate it as unlikely anyway, unless the Dogs have cap issues with the Bont wanting to stay on his current salary and asking for length. Maybe that English contract but seems like he’ll easily stay unless there’s something else (eg hates his coach and what not).
I think there’ll be a number of suitors. Take the interest in Perryman who’s a 6-7 out of 10 compared to Richards 8-9 out of 10 he’s just a better footballer. If he’s available I’d expect all of Essendon, Hawthorn and St Kilda to be into him as a minimum.

It’s Darcy and Naughton that’ll compromise their cap, IMO. They may be able to get to $1m, but I doubt they’ll have the capacity to match the high end offers and I reckon they’ll need him to take unders.

They also need to pay an out of contract Bont who is worth big coin.

If it continues to buckle at Port I really like Bergman who is OOC, feel like he could play mid as well.

You need to understand with the new CBA increase in the salary cap $800-900k is the new $650-750k.

This is the same situation we were looking at with McStay on $600-$650k. Does anyone really think that’s overs for him now?

Watch some Bulldogs games, Ed is taking over matches as a mid playing inside and out, he's earning every bit of a pay rise.

I like him too. Don't think he'd be cheap though. I think we'll be shopping at Vinnies this year, unless we can land a free agent. Membrey type cheapies - Sam Frost.

GC want players not picks.

I can't see how a deal could get done that's why LDU makes more sense as a free agent.
LDU’s round 1 performance worries me. He just goes missing too often for the dollars he would command

I reckon his consistency is pretty solid

Lachie Neale just had his worst game since 2016 but I doubt anyone would question his consistency

Great players have quiet games. LDU's body of work has probably bought him enough credit in the bank imo

For me it's more North forcing a trade for LDU. Given what we may need for McGuane (and Lonie?) I have no idea how we'd get LDU if they force a trade

We had a go at him before he resigned with Port last contract. Probably wrong timing trying to recruit an OOC player with no first rounder.

Leek Aleer might be cheaper as he’s sitting behind some quality talls at GWS.

Big fan of him, would love him here, and it’s crucial for the Dogs to keep him too considering Libba and Treloar are in the twilight of their careers

I see the merit in Richard’s, however wonder about the future mix. We’ve got Daics and DeGoey as offensive weapons with toe who you prefer on the outside. I think a bull inside extractor like Rowell would balance out our centre square more so than Richards. The free agent element does sweeten the deal significantly though…

Maybe LDU is the best mix of tough inside extractor / available as a FA.
We need a sweeper more than a ball hunter when JDG and Nick are in the square together otherwise we'll get burnt in the opposite direction.

Jakob Ryan it is...

Put him in a system with stars and watch him dominate.

Nth are an absolute rabble.

I’m thinking more inside extractor to feed it out to our offensive weapons. Mitchel’s natural successor.
It's too defensively exposed for me. Rowell would be fantastic for us, but I don't think you'd go with all 3 together too often.
