Of those, I would have it as.

Yes:
  • Pendlebury
  • Sidebottom
  • Howe
  • Elliott
  • Mihocek
  • Crisp
  • Membrey
Maybe:
  • WHE
  • Cox
Unlikely:
  • Mitchell
I'd shift WHE up to yes and Mitchell maybe.

I see it as a possibility that they all go around again, as we may not really need to add any depth recruits - thus I can't see it as a big year for us and mature recruits - and there will be enough others to cut to add the number of kids we like to add.

Injuries or our lack of pace through the midfield being exploited might change things though.

Looking at the OOC seniors v rookies , I don’t think that can be an option when we might have 4 players in the upcoming draft
We'll be able to shift blokes between lists. Eg - If Cox is going to go around again - no one else is going to add him if we delist and re-rookie - same with a couple of the other oldies. And if we lost someone that way - it's the same result as retiring them to open up the main list spot.

Potentially, if we explore re-rookied fringe players with no preferred suitors as an option. I don't think we'll be adding many mature recruits either, unless we have more cash than I imagine.

Edit: nvm - you beat me to the re-rookie idea

My feeling is Mitchell and Cox will retire. Pendles and Howe 1 more year.
I can't see Mitchell actually retiring - eg making that call himself. Pendles and Cox might actually retire maybe WHE - who knows with him - I think the others will all have their hand up to go around again - and it'll be the club's call.

McDonald, Gardiner and Silvagni would be close to gold silver and bronze for the worst players bring into Collingwood. What is the fixation with supposedly 'cheap' players? You could substitute 'cheap' with 'not good enough' tbh.
Harsh on Silvagni (can't believe I'm saying that). I actually think his move down back has been one of the few positives for them this season. Seems to be one of a hand full players actually giving a damn as well this year.

Gardiner is a bit crap and McDonald is too old for my taste, but Silvagni has become a decent footballer. No world beater, but better than McInnes and a decent bridging player for when Howe retires
Jack has Reef covered for experience but our man has more athletic ability in his little finger than Jack has in his whole body. I've seen glaciers move quicker than Jack and God only knows why anyone would thinks he's a fit and thankfully we don't need to worry about it. Chances of happening? I'd give it a zero

This doesn't read as a particularly balanced criticism. Reef might be faster, but Silvagni reads the game much better (which is why he marks the ball so much more), is stronger, and is a better user. Silvagni hasn't been as terrible as you're making out for years

Just looking at the FA list posted by the AFL yesterday, here are some guys I think would come relatively cheap through contract $$ and would cover list needs.

- Tom McDonald (Melb will look to rebuild, will be 33yo in September but playing brilliant football at the moment). Could anchor the back 6 or be great depth for a 2 year flag push.

- Darcy Gardiner (not in Brisbane's best team behind Andrews & Payne but has prior to this year been a mainstay. May want more opportunity? 29yo).

- Jack Silvagni (Don't think he'll go anywhere but has been re-invented as a defender coming off the injury. 27yo, 194cm so could be a Howe replacement).

Also a number of players who would be great to go after, however doubt they'll come to us / they'll re-sign.

- Bont, OAllen, Richards, TDK, Lester
Don’t want Jack Silvagni

Massively Overrated

I think the most likely players to be delisted/retire, in order…

• AJ
• Dean
• Smit/Steene (maybe both gone if Cox stays on)
• Macrae
• Mitchell
• Markov
• Cox
• Howe
• Sullivan

Why would we delist our ruck future?

We won't, but Smit or Steene might not be our ruck future. If we delist them, they almost certainly won't be our ruck future.

We won't delist our young rucks and we will keep Sullivan. I think Howe will definitely play on

They might not be, but surely the best bet is to give them each another year.

Maybe. But it'd depend on options and how the coaches and recruiters rate them.

I view delisting like dropping - you shouldn't focus on either of those outcomes - you should focus on who to select and who to give a contract to.

They'll be uncontracted - is there someone gettable that will be more likely to have a future and/or offer better short term depth? THey're both pretty speculative.

If we can consolidate two unlikely ruck rookies into one more likely and more ready-to-go player and free up a list spot, then why not?

Both Smit and Steene are rated by the club. I’m confident they will be on the list next year.

They’re not “unlikely.”
Who makes a delist list at the start of the year?

Sorry, mate. There’s only so many spots on the list and there are lots of good players out there on other lists or coming up through rookie or state leagues. Like some of what I’ve seen from those boys but just calling it how I see it.

You’re calling it way too early.
Did you want Long delisted last year?

Proof is in the pudding. It won't have been Steene's choice to have a one year rather than longer extension at the end of last year and Smit hasn't been re-signed yet. I'll be convinced you're right when their contracts get extended. But at the moment they look to be players that the club aren't willing to commit to in terms of 2026 yet - they'll need to make progress - hopefully that occurs and they do get re-signed.
