The thing is..
Most older players don't get a choice. Its rare that players go out on their own terms. I don't imagine there wouldn't be too many that wouldn't want to keep playing, but clubs tend to tap players on the shoulder.

If we take 2 in the MSD, thats two more to go on the rookie list, in replace of lets say for Markov/Johnson.
Fin is on the senior list. Thats one
They won't want to lose Steene given his now progression, unless someone comes and poaches him for more opportunity.
You'd then need to open up a few more senior spots. I just think its evitable that we're gonna have some 30+ players end up, just a matter of how many. Could be 1-2. Could be 3 for all we know.
I wouldn't factor in what current list they're on. If we did want to keep Mason Cox - delist and re-rookie. No one else is going to draft him.

We could. I suppose it depends how many rookie spots they have open. Could be at the expense of Dean? Or Smit? They'll have to decide what they are doing with him.

Vic Metro has announced its 28-player squad for the U18s National Championships boys carnival.

The squad is headlined by AFL Academy members Cooper Duff-Tytler, Ollie Greeves, Tom Burton, Archie Ludowyke and Louis Emmett.

There are also seven club-tied players: Carlton NGA pair Tyson Gresham and Jack Ison, Collingwood NGA pair Zac McCarthy and Jai Saxena and Pies father-son prospect Tom McGuane, Essendon NGA pair Adam Sweid and Hussien El Achkar and St Kilda-tied halfback Kye Fincher.

Is this bad for us?

Or good? We'll make it work, find the points required.
To be able to get three quality kids given all the media saying we have none, with no first rounder, would be a bonus.

It's really too early to say.

The younger blokes coming out of contract: Dean, Smit, Steene have got the rest of the year to impress and get an extension offer.

And a lot of the one year contract oldies are probably a serious injury away from not going on.

It's good. If they didn't make the Metro squad, they probably wouldn't be tracking to be draftable. It says that we might be getting some blokes at a discount.

Yeah, still a long way before the end of the year. Lots of things can happen. Out of the top 3, I reckon Steene is the one most impressing at this stage. Dean has been performing well too.
I'm very curious what they are doing with Smit. Is this defence a temporarily thing, is it something they are persisting with?

I think they're trying to teach him positioning. You'd see a lot more at the ground, but on tv, when he's rucking he's rarely on the screen after the ruck contest and when he is it's nowhere near the position on the field where our AFL ruck would be.

What are you asking??

It is what it is. We expect our club to be drafting promising/talented junior footballers. Representative teams are normally loaded with talented players.

How is Collingwood going to get 3 picks in the top 30 players of this years' draft?

I hope they keep both Steene and Smit after watching them in the VFL games I am liking what they do.
How could you not love someone called Big Roo! 😂

I'd sure hope so given they are the same person lol
I knew what you meant though. I think they see both as long term prospects, and last few games Oscar is showing his progression after he missed so much development last year unable to play.

At this stage, it is only 3 blokes in the top 30 of one of the 5 National Championships teams.

Gahhhhhh, I should proof before hitting send.😂

I doubt we'll ask Oscar Steene to change his name
I think he should. We seem pretty desperate to develop a Big Roo. There was that bloke from Guyana and then this current Big Roo. Might be best to just get someone on the list to change their name rather than limiting ourselves to recruiting from a pretty small pool of prospective footballers called Big Roo.
