I’m annoyed at the article not because it doesn’t make sense, because it does, but because it’s Ralphy once again seemingly trying to will something in to existence based on… not much at all?

I’d be interested to know the ratio of Collingwood-other clubs articles he’s written this year. It feels like he’s coming out with a Collingwood piece every day or so at this point, and has been since pre-season. It’s actually become an obsession for him to try to will his opinions on us in to reality…
He does it for clicks, he admitted to it. Collingwood anything, makes him money.

I can tell you how…
“We just went to the top of our list…”

Please. Nobody saw him as a first rounder. You can blame everyone in that case lol
It was only when the second round started that clubs saw him in that bracket.

They got JHF in end of 2022 in the trade which was the exception. Luko wasn’t the exception. Given his age- was only 12 months removed from being the number 1 pick he was classified as part of the rules as using a first rounder.
They got berry in 2024
Oh please, they got an exception, you’re just making assumptions about them classifying JHF as a first for them.

We can ask for concession which I'm sure the league will allow when we've just won 2 of 3 flags...
Such a stupid rule. The rule should be the other way around. A maxmimum number of first picks you can take to stop what Richmond did. That sort of thing is what is going to make teams uncompetitive.

Are you serious, Jen?
You’ve stated before he was the guy you wanted us to pick with our first.

I couldn’t care less if idiots at other clubs passed over him. Doesn’t excuse our process.

Many clubs thought we were taking him with our first.
A guy who had just kicked 4 in a big game.
A guy who we were trying to trade up for after taking a small utility at 25…

We were drunk for months after that GF win

Oh we should have. We should have picked him first instead of HDM. But just stating that all clubs could have picked him in the first round. They didn't. Clearly they didn't see him as a first rounder at the time, or had others ahead.
Only came into calculations once the second round came about.

But Kane to now complain about how could clubs bypass him. It's easy to say that now.

True
But easy to say about other clubs, not Collingwood.

We didn’t pick until 25 and had a need for a developing 1st, 2nd or 3rd option KPF

I would actually not have a problem at all with this draft miss if we weren’t interested in him at all and just made an error. The fact that we tried to move up to 33, just 8 spots after we selected HDM, indicates some breakdown in our selection process given our level of interest and desire to trade out of F3 just to move up those few spots

Yeah, I recall us being linked to him at the time. And who knows, maybe we thought he would be available at our next pick. That's the risk you take I suppose.
Though if we had gotten him, we probably (Or would we?) not have gone for West 12 months later.

Guess we'll see how HDM and also West turn out in the years to come.

I actually think it may have been the sliding doors moment bw Hine and the club

Exactly.
Another piece of shit journalism from Ralph. Has he ever written anything decent?

Apparently, if he keeps up his good work of writing between the lines he's only a couple of weeks away from getting his pen licence.

The Press Council are expected to announce it with a special merit award at the next journalist assembly. His parents have been emailed and are set to be surprise special guests.

I totally get that, but for once it’s an accurate story so if we clip him over accurate stories whilst praising Zita for owning a **** up we’re no better than Ralph, IMO.
Rowell to Collingwood is feeling more and more likely every week.

No idea how we get it done.
Despite the vibe check this is why Ralph is on this anti Collingwood run (that story has all the hallmarks of the Houston trade week speculation). He’s known since early year that this is a goer when he ran that future pick trading article and it’s grinding his gears. There’s complexity to it, but he sees the leg ups we get and he’s jealous.

I don’t see what the carryon is with that article. I’m always up for clipping Ralph et al nonsense, but this one is a no brainer. His contract for 2027 will be based on triggers and it doesnt automatically roll so he’d be a FA next year if he so chooses. I didn’t agree with the timing of the Naicos extension this one though makes absolute sense given his career UFA status.
If a contract has a trigger and the he trigger is reached(pulled?) the new contract term is automatically created. No choosing about it.

The language he uses makes it very clear that it’s an opinion disguised as fact. It may well turn out that we do give Long a pay bump, but to call this accurate at this point is premature.

That Wiz bloke is my one big hate in footy. Hoping he achieves nothing. Along with Ginni.
The Wiz Seinfeld GIF

It says the article is a combination of Ralphy, McFarlane and Josh Barnes. But the way it talks about "to keep" Long because of his FA status everytime he comes OOC, reeks of Ralphy for sure.
I’m fairly sure Dylan Moore was in the same boat

Surely that depends on how the contract is written?

Couldn’t be dependent on the player choosing to activate the benefits of the trigger clause, it’s conditions having been met?

Example: having played 18 senior afl games in season 2025, the club will be obligated to offer player X a two year contract extension which the player will have the option to confirm

????

You are describing an option, not a trigger. Think about the meaning of the word, it’s not just the name of a horse.

As far as I am aware, options aren’t part of the afl player contract scene. Not sure, but I think they might not be allowed.

And don’t call me Shirley.

Ok.
So for all we know it may have been written as an option and it could be the case.
And people just call it a trigger.
Who knows.

Thanks Shirleyswipe.

FFS, if you are going to suggest that a contractual term being called a trigger isn't a trigger, well then it could be anything. Maybe the trigger is actually a nuclear arms proliferation treaty?

In the afl, triggers automatically create a new contract.

He can play - and he'd cost nothing. Would be interesting to see if he had the minerals to have a go at Bruzzy.
No doubt he can play, I just don't think he would fit into our "good people" recruiting and club mantra. Happy to be proven wrong but its not normal to put on your backside by two teammates at two different teams. Throw in the Gawn moment at Kings birthday and its just a lot of red flags to me. But as I said, happy to be proven wrong.
